I have had the 6 Plus and 6s Plus and each time I sell them and go smaller because once summer and spring hit, shorts become a problem and I start to hate the size. Yet I'm compelled to go back to the Plus this time around because of the camera. Though in the back of my head I know it is a mistake.

I'm in the same boat. I tried to stop by my local Apple Store but got out of work late. Every time I pick up a Plus it feels just wayyy too large, but that camera, screen and battery life would be nice.

I want the camera and really want the battery life I'm sure the large screen is nice in usage. I just don't know if I want to deal with a 2 handed phone. I am 70/30 for 7 vs plus.

I've had iPhone 6 sized phone since the 6. I love the thought of more screen real estate and the added features but I'm worried about carrying the phone in my front right pants pocket.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Does your iPhone 6+/6S+ do okay with pocket use? Would love some comments.

Thanks all,
M
While don't you create a poll. I vote the 7.

I was pretty set on the Plus, but here's my point of view, based on originally grabbing the 6 Plus, then switching to the normal 6 and then 6S.

- The larger screen is sharper, and I really like that

- The larger screen isn't put to good use at all. I found that most of the time, websites displayed the same (not showing more content), just slightly larger, and this generally applies to most apps too. In an ideal world, the Plus would have better layouts for apps utilizing the extra space, but it's not like that.

- The 6+ had to do a lot more work to render its screen than the 6 (because of the resolution being calculated at 3x and downscaled or whatever), which made it feel noticeably more sluggish. I found a rather large difference with that generation. They might be the same now I guess.

- The battery in the older generations was pretty far apart, but according to what we're hearing, they're only an hour apart now. That's a plus point for the smaller phone.

- The Plus cameras had OIS, which to me, is a huge benefit. Now both do, so the point is moot.

- I never, ever got used to the size of the Plus in terms of handling. Screen size of course, you get used to that. But I have massive hands, and never liked the way the phone handled, or felt in the pocket. Felt like I had to spread my hand pretty wide to hold it. Many activities had to be 2-handed. This is the biggest issue with the Plus to me.

- My thoughts initially with the Plus were that I wouldn't need to use an iPad as often, but I found a lot of difference in practical use. The way websites render and show, and the way you interact with them is a different enough experience that I found I'd prefer using an iPad wherever possible. Since that was the case, I thought why not downsize and be more comfortable, and I was.

- Moving to the 6, it felt faster and far more pocketable and usable, and the 6S was of course, the same. Didn't feel any regret, need to change, or go back.

So with the 7/Plus, I was thinking it would have a far superior camera, far superior battery life and of course, that sharper screen, and it seemed like the right choice. Looking at it now, after the reveal, the battery gap has closed, and the camera isn't really much better IMO. Not sure if both cameras have OIS on the Plus, and even if they do, the 56mm-equivalent lens is f/2.8 - a bit of a downer for me. Now, in daily usage, I would use the 56mm lens about 80% of the time (I am a photographer, so I already know 56mm works better for most applications apart from landscapes), but that size is just too much to pocket IMO. Probably going with the 7.

Love the size of the 7 but that camera and battery life is hard to sacrifice so I will get the 7+ again.

I really wish Apple did some redesigning as if the S7Edge can fit in a smaller factor, Apple needs to get on board.

The 7 & 7+ have exactly the same camera. The difference is the 7+ has a second one that uses a 56mm perspective lens ( normal, not telephoto ) in addition to the one that both phones have and that is a 29mm wide angle.

I would love to get the 7+ but it literally does not fit into my lifestyle, so the 7 it will be.

If photography is important to you....7+. If not, 7 should be all you needed. Maybe far more important....which storage size to get.

I have been a full time pro shooting for 30 years, I would rather have the phone that fits a lot more places than a 56mm lens in addition to a 29mm one.

I had the 6+. It was quite uncomfortable in the front pocket of most of my jeans but was comfy in dress pants. Be sure to take it out of your pants pocket before you get into the car.

I'm not sure this thread is helping me at all also decide between 7/7+

I've had the 6 & 6s and loved them, but, the dual camera is a main attraction to the + and the 1080p bigger screen with more resolution would be easier on my eyes. I know I'd love the screen size for taking photos and using apps & anything I read, might use iPad mini less, but, just feel I will be sorry as the 4.7" iPhone feels a bit too big in my pocket already o_O

If it makes you feel any better, I need reading glasses, love the large screen on my wife's 6S+ and know that I would love the 56mm 2.8 second camera too....but due to my active / outdoor lifestyle and job, the 7+ is just a no go I feel for storage when not in use.

My wife is out of town on business so I can not even re-entertain the idea of the bigger phone. 7 regular it is.

My opinion on this still hasn't changed from the first plus they released. While I'm not too worried about it fitting in my pocket it just wouldn't feel right in hand. err...hands rather. Even the normal sized ones feel slippery, but I'll compromise for the extra real estate compared to the iphone 4 (the last one that felt the most natural in hand to me).

The plus is nothing more than a preview of the next full numbered standard sized phone. At least in terms of the camera.

Bottom line, if I wanted a bigger phone I would just get a tablet.

I have a iPhone 6s plus which is doing great (can't see any major reason except the camera on iPhone 7 plus) so i am not selling this great phone for only camera upgrade,so the only choice left for me is smaller iPhone 7 which i am getting in new jet black color

Thank you for this. Laying in bed here, wide awake at 3:44am tossing and turning trying to decide what I'll order in 4 hours and I just stumbled upon this thread which has decided it for me.

I saw a video lastnight where you could actually zoom from 1x to 2x i.e set it at 35mm which would have been my sweet spot. Previously i just imagined it being locked at 28 and 56 and then digitally zooming further. But the thought of having to pull out that gianatic device each time I want to spontaneously take a picture then fiddle around with a dial/wheel to set my desired focal length just kills all the joy of shooting run and gun with a compact setup/prime lens.

Don't forget about the software differences. The Plus can do the Home screen in landscape. Messages, Mail, & third-party apps show a two-pane view in landscape only on the Plus. There are even more functions on the landscape keyboard. It's silly that Apple keeps some landscape features only for the Plus.
All that aside, I've dropped my 6S Plus more than all my other iPhones combined due to its slippery shape and big size. I'm counting on the extra 2 hours of battery life in the 7 to be close to the 6S Plus. I'm looking forward to better one-handed use and no more shuffling the phone up and down in my hand to reach the corners of the screen.

I'm downsizing to the regular. The Plus is cool, but after a while it gets annoying. It's hard for me to focus on driving and making a phone call. Like when I call someone or someone calls me while I'm driving I like to put the phone on speaker and doing that while driving is a pain. Also will be much easier to use one handed with the regular, you'll adjust to the plus, but the difference is night and day. Also I hate how the phone is so big, that everyone can see what I'm doing. Like when I'm in a theater or stadium, everyone behind me can see everything on my phone. And people sitting next to me. The battery life on my 6S Plus isn't even impressive to me, so it won't be missed much.

Simple: if you want to become a professional photographer, get the Plus. If you want to remain amateurish, get the basic one.

LOL!!

Thanks for the pre-order night comedy..:)

Unless you're playing a game that really pushes the GPU, you're likely not going to notice much of a difference at all.

Are you sure? I see a difference in using my wife's 6S compared to my 6 in regards to swapping apps, loading web pages, using maps, etc.

To me that means it is less time I have to spend on task and get more battery life out of a faster phone because of it.

Apple never quite optimized the larger screen

It's like an after thought

You guys helped my decision.

I'm going to downsize.

I'm also biased to downsize to the smaller iPhone 7 because I have the 12.9" iPad Pro for the times I want a really big iOS screen and Apple Watch for the times I can get by with a smaller screen.

He was asking about the SE. Specwise, it's on par with the 6s I think. I don't think he'd see much of a performance bump as he would going from the 6 to the 7.

Thanks for the clarification, yeah, I have never really been one to upgrade with less than 2 years in between. I saw a difference between the 6 and 6S but not enough to make the move.
