what does this even mean? games don't care about platforms, they are single window applications.
Wrong,
There is nothing preventing a developer from selling directly via the web a Mac Game. Several already do that. One of the advantages of Metal 3 is it makes games easier to port from Windows to Mac and IPadOS compared to the Metal 2.

This YouTube video shows whats new with Metal 3 rather well using WWDC 2022 snippets of what was announced

macOS does prevent developers to sell games and it's been proven for several decades! All games are based on Windows and this is why Mac sucks. How many games for Mac are there? Very limited especially after Apple Silicon transition. Porting is easy? You clearly not caring about the expanses just for Mac.

Several decades?

So, hang on. The Apple from 1992 is the same as Apple in 2022? A Mac Quadra's the same as PowerMac G4, which is the same as a M1 MacBook Air?

How many games for Mac have you played recently, cobber? Be honest.

In what way does the platform “suck” for it? I would love to hear this.
So many things to consider:

1. Almost all games are Window based.
2. Most players are PC users while Mac users are extremely low and Steam stat already proven that which is only 2% just for Steam.
3. macOS compatibility sucks since you always get a new macOS per year while Windows isn't. Spending money for each macOS version is just stupid.
4. Game related technology for Mac is terrible. Ray tracing? Mac doesn't even support them yet. Metal 3? It's just stupid.
5. Why would anyone waste their money for macOS where only few people play games? How many are there?
6. Mac itself is too expensive in terms of hardware and therefore, it's hard to attract new players.
7. PC games already have superior platforms such as Xbox, Playstation, and PC. Why would anyone wanna play games on Mac?
8. Optimizing and supporting Mac requires additional fee and time.
9. Profitability is all we care. Mac however is far from profiting in gaming market. That's why many games are not supporting Mac at all.
10. Lack of customization which is very hostile for Mac and other Apple products.
11. Apple themselves are not interested in a gaming industry.
12. Mac has no platform power to attract games and players. Only mobile games do.

With many people's logic, games suppose to support Apple Silicon so easily but guess what? It did not. Mac will never be a gaming machine as long as only few people play games on Mac.

Mac is never known for gaming and it's a fact. Tell me, how many AAA games and most popular games are supported on Mac? Even Blizzard stop supporting their latest games on Mac.

As soon as the games are available and apple silicon can beat my RTX 3090 I’m all in!

Surprised people are looking forward to this. Got bored after about 10 minutes and haven't touched it since it came out May 2021.

Is the Mac version gonna be available on Steam or only the Mac App Store? If it's only the Mac App Store then it's dead on arrival lmao.
It should be available on both. The hard core gamers are on Steam. But having it at MAS makes it available to the Walled Garden Masses, that probably outnumbers the Mac-Steamers by over 900%.

I might get this, if anything, to help support Mac version of things.

Although, I haven't played any of the resident evil games since whatever version was ported to the N64 back in the 90's.

Is this series something that you can jump into any of the games, or is it a good idea to play it in order?
Many of the games have basically zero connection to the other games in the series. There is some overall lore and distant connection between the events in each game that the super fans can probably tell you about, but no you don't need to play them in order.

When you say Biohazard, you mean Resident Evil VII?
Yes. My advice might have been wrong. Resident Evil VII had basically no connection to the earlier games. I figured Village would be the same. But someone else here says it is a sequel to VII. So maybe you should play VII first. I like VII and it was well reviewed.

Okay, I'll bite.

1. ...So?
2. Yes. That could be due to Apple's reluctance on gaming, and because of most common Macs having Intel iGPUs. It could also be due to Valve being comically inept with actually responding to people, leaving many issues on Steam open for years at a time.
3. Agreed, it's a fair point.
4. How's Metal 3 stupid if the bloody thing isn't even out yet?
5. People don't buy a Mac to play games on. People buy Macs and end up wanting to play games on it.
6. Debateable.
7. See 5.
8. Yes. If a game costs more to bring over than it will make in sales, then that's bad for the developer and publisher, and they won't bring it across.
9. See 8.
10. ...Like software customization??
11. Apple just adds controller and haptic support, updates Metal, adds a beefier GPU and works with Capcom because they're not interested in gaming?
12. ...But... people DO play games on Macs. And I haven't seen RE8 on a mobile yet.

Everybody enjoy while it’s compatible with your current version of macOS. The next forced software cut-off in the name of innovation will surely come. Who knows when? But it will come.

1. That proves my point that PC is the most important gaming market, not macOS and therefore, they lack support. Mac is just a niche market.
4. Do you really think that Metal 3 which is a new one change everything right away? Gosh, do you even aware that games are basically more optimized with Windows and AMD/Nvidia GPU?
5. It's a same thing. THat's why only less than 2% players on Steam are Mac users.
10. Hardware and software.
12. They are not. How many native games are they especially the latest games? You see, those updates are nothing compared to PC.
13. Do doesn't mean anything. The market is not really getting benefits.

Somebody's gotta make an app that automatically optimizes that inventory grid thing...
(now searching for typewriter ribbon to Save this post)
Haha good memories from the first Resident Evil on the original PlayStation!

That was a pretty hard game with the ribbon save system, one of the most satisfying game completions ever during my four decades of gaming! 😊

1) Nope, maybe decades ago...now most of the games are on mobile (maybe you refer to the true AAA games, then yes but you have to be more specific)
3) It seems you are not on the macOS for quite some years,I never payed for a new macOS since 2012 i think, macOS upgrades unlike Windows are free of charge until your mac is no longer supported for the new version. So based on your analyst that is stupid to pay for every windows 10/11 license is stupid in 2022, i agree...something that Microsoft didnt copy from Apple
5) Nobody is doing that, gaming on mac is a third choice if its available, if its not, there no pressure
7) Future is arm architecture, expect next true gen console to be arm as well
11) Im sorry but apple created iOS and mobile gaming is now the most profitable one vs PC or vs console
On the rest i kind of agree

Risky to buy any games on the Mac App Store - better to get them from Steam or direct from the publisher if they offer it. Inevitably, given that Apple don't care about games, they'll change something in MacOS or withdraw support for something else, which will break the game and the developers will very quickly tire of playing catch-up with patches.

Until this attitude changes and Apple work better with developers and understand the commercial reality of games development, it's far better to buy it a least as as joint PC/Mac release so when it breaks on macOS you can still play it on a PC.

Right now, games for Mac are throwaway, as evidenced by the types of games Apple promotes on Apple Arcade.

This is surely going to be the new game used to compare gaming benchmarks against Apple Silicon
