It was a mid June update.
It seems then that it’s bricked.
I’m going to try and get a refund then as undertaking a ota update should not be easily bricking these devices... somethings seriously wrong with this update method on these devices therefore!

I also tried the OTA update - and got to 90%. I left it on 90% for several minutes, meanwhile carplay rebooted and reconnected. Luckily for me, the device didn't brick. I had no luck updating OTA with previous firmwares either.

Doesn't work. I have just tried with every firmwares. Every time it disconnect itself. I will use the classic cable connection. I will sell it. If you want it contact me.

There is a 07.01 today but it only .68mb it downloads it "updates successfully" reboots but does not seem to be a "real update" 1) Too small there normally around 5MB and once complete a rescan still advertises the same 7/1 update as available not telling what version you have. In my case 6-17.

There is no question that any OTA update for any device has some more potential risk from a downloading perspective, even a power interruption if you choose to do it while the car is not running then your AV system turns itself off. On the flip side OTA updates are generally the ones Carlinkit puts the most faith in working for the most AV systems in cars.

Day late :) It came out yesterday and while it is small and stuck in a upgrade loop, it does grant the ability to reinstall 2020.03.06 and older firmwares. Unfortunately, the activation servers are not..... active anymore, so it is pointless to downgrade at present.

update log says "Please upgrade version 06.16 before upgrading this firmware"
and it seems that it is actually version 07.08.

Did ya try it yet, Denali? And, what the heck does that message mean?

"Please upgrade version 06.16 before upgrading this firmware\nFix some bugs" So, if we're at 2020.06.17, we're good to try this?

Not yet. But will give it a shot later this morning.

For the last month I have been using the CarPlay dongle from re-stream (https://re-stream.se) which basically seems to be a rebranded version of Carlinkit 2.0. My Car is a VW Tiguan 2017 with Composition Media Infotainment (without navigation) and I'm using an iPhone 11 with iOS 14 Dev Beta 2.

I can only agree with some other people in this thread that iOS 14 works but better with this dongle compared to iOS 13. The lag during phone conversations is not a big problem anymore and changing music tracks is noticable faster (even though it's not as fast as with cable).

I just OTA upgraded the dongle to 2020.07.08.1306 and unfortunalty I can still notice short hickups/gaps while playing music. However, I have never had the 5 min audio bug with distorted sound. The most frustrating bug so far has been the issue reconnecting to the CarPlay dongle after a short break (like filling gas, picking up a package etc). I did some stops today with the 2020.07.08-software and it actually connected just fine, but I guess its still too soon to know if the issue has been fixed or not.

Thanks for keeping this thread alive

For those that were hoping to downgrade from the June/July firmware, there is a problem. Carlinkit reported to me this morning that that do not appear to have kept a manually flashable image of the 2020.03.18 firmware. They are still checking, but not optimistic.

Unless the old activation servers suddenly come back up, the risk takers are stuck where they are.

The 5 minute audio distortion is still there on the manual firmware update from 7-16-20 for GM👎 On a Carlinkit USB-c
AAArrrgggghhh! When are they gonna get this put to bed?!?! So aggravating. Do you think they just don't have a head unit to test with? It's so painful. What does it take!?!?

I don’t show that a firmware was ever out for 6-16-20.

I applied the update from 7-16-20 over the one from 7-15-20. Audio issue still there on GM

1) like I said, it most probably is a regional issue with GM headunit firmware and is not present on non-US/AUS models.

2) no clue about the upgrade 06-16 thing. I updated fine from 2020.06.06 (maybe it was a typo and they meant 06-06?)

3) I need to do more testing, but even though today's build is the "same" as the last 3, it might have brought my USB-C activator back to it's 2020.03.18 state with no blank screens occurring on my Pioneer headunit.
