1) like I said, it most probably is a regional issue with GM headunit firmware and is not present on non-US/AUS models.

2) no clue about the upgrade 06-16 thing. I updated fine from 2020.06.06 (maybe it was a typo and they meant 06-06?)

3) I need to do more testing, but even though today's build is the "same" as the last 3, it might have brought my USB-C activator back to it's 2020.03.18 state with no blank screens occurring on my Pioneer headunit.

On 1. I have a CarPlay2air on 3-6-20 firmware and it works great on my GM trucks head units.

possibly on #2.

03-06 seems to be the one exception. But that does not mean there has not been a regression in the firmwares released afterwards. I've also pointed out previously it could be due to the firmware on your radio not being up to date and causing trouble with newer carlinkit firmware.

I have updated today my Carlo kit dongle (usb type a) to version 2020.07.08.1306 vía OTA, and now it doesn’t work. Screen doesn’t change to CarPlay display, but touch yes. Screen stalls at connecting, but touch act as if screen was ok, if you remember position of buttons. Anyone can help me? How to fix it?

Don’t lost your time. It will never work!

Unplug it and plug it back in. Or make your screen switch to a different function then go back to CarPlay mode.

Wait... there was a 2020.07.08.1306 OTA released??

Yes. Checked today and updated, but now my unit doesn’t work. Also I’ve unplugged, plugged, changed to another screen, rebooted my phone... and nothing fix. I’ll try a usb downgrade.

The bug might have happened if you were not already on firmware 2020.06.16 (or 06.06 - not sure which they actually meant) when you did the OTA. Otherwise, no idea. The way you described it definitely was not a bricked unit.

Agreed, seems like it *should* be downgrade-able, back to 2020.06.17, via USB flash. That's what I'd try, if I were facing that. At least get back to a usable state.

I had updated to 07.08 via USB and had the same issue with my Ford SYNC3 and CPlay2Air. Went back to 06.19 version using USB. Guess there's no need to try this OTA update.

Yes I would recommend not to update firmware unless you are having big issues.

if unit works 95% of the time and features I would call it good... We have to keep in mind that these dongle‘s are just a hack and will probably never work 100%. But will work well enough for some of us That want to keep our phone in our pocket and use wireless CarPlay.

I bought both CarPlay2Air and the CarLinkIt 2.0 adapters - neither of them work on 2019 Chevy Equinox with factory radio/carplay. The radio never presents the bluetooth connection screen, and the dongle never creates a bluetooth network. I did try them on a friends aftermarket Kenwood radio and they both worked as expected there, so I guess the Chevy infotainment 3 system (v509) is rejecting it. When I hit carplay on the radio, it says "plug in a supported phone to launch Apple CarPlay" which is the message it normally gives when it detects something is plugged in, but its not an iPhone.

I was surprised to discovery that CarLinkIt 2.0 and CarPlay2Air are the EXACT SAME DEVICE - even the instruction manuals are identical to the letter. The only difference is in the branding on the device and on the package, but the packaging materials, the device form factor, etc are all exactly the same all the way down to the plastic wrapping that protects the device from scratches. And of course, neither of them work on a 2019 Equinox for some reason.

I agree Denali.

The bug I'm looking to have fixed between my CPlay2Air and Ford SYNC3 is whenever I'm on the SYNC3 screens and a notification comes in on the iPhone, the SYNC3 screen flicks briefly. It's very fast and may be going to the Carplay screen and then back to SYNC3...it's too fast to tell. But it's very distracting.

I have not submitted a log or complaint to CPlay2Air yet, but from what I've gleaned from this thread, that's a bit futile.

I don't mind carefully trying some firmware updates with the understanding I may brick the unit. I just won't go first ;)

Series 3 still a work in progress for this device.

Check the bottom of this webpage, I believe its the software changelog for the CarPlay dongle: https://re-stream.se/software-engineering-and-technology/

## 2020-07-06
### Changed
- Bugfixes for Toyota & KIA radiosystems

Looking over their change log history, and seeing things such as music control via steering wheel being added in 2020, it would seem that the reStream device is and is not the same as the Carlinkit/CarPlay2Air devices. More like a version where they are actually taking their time to develop it correctly... instead of tossing programming together in a salad bowl and crossing their fingers.

One important thing that stands out is a line at the bottom of the compatibility page.

Note: Specified years are based on Model Year (MY) and can vary by region.

You don't see anything like that on CP2A or Carlinkit's sites, IIRC.

I wonder if it’s possible to flash our devices with their firmware? Anyone have any images of their OSD / WebUI?

edit: there’s a video on their page, UI looks the same.

I have the reStream device and the update procedure is the same as for Carlinkit/C2air with connecting to 192.168.50.2.

I think its the same dongle, just rebranded. It's not clear if reStream is involved in the development process of the software.

I am new to the Car2Play things .. i did the update yesterday, and my dongle is broken.
Is there a guide or tutorial for downgrading the car2playAir dongle?

searched since yesterday, but havent found anything that helped me.

Got now an usb-c carlinkit 2.0 dongle, after the old usb-a carplay2air get‘s broken... today an update 17jul is available for ota, but on the iPhone screen it is mentioned to upgrade to 16jun Firmware before update to 17jul version. Does anybody else had this screen? Is it easy to do an ota update without bricking the device?

I have this exact same screen in UK. I've hit the upgrade button... and waited... and waited.... The update seems to get to around 90% then stops (this bit is quick - around 30 seconds max). I've waited at the 90% mark for over 10 mins.

I sent an email and tried to upload the log file via the safari browser... Let's see how quick they respond !
