I had no clue!
Is that why some of the UI colors are different when using the adapter vs just straight wired CarPlay?
The adapter is transcoding something wrong?

The UI colors are due to CarPlay itself, avoiding transparency to save some battery and/or avoiding excessive heat due to video encoding + wifi (my guess, never tried a car with official wireless CarPlay)

In a previous post I said I updated to 2021.01.21, but it is 2021.01.20. Strangely, for me 2021.01.28 can not be found. I have been experiencing crashes on this build. Did not happen before.

Thank's for the hint, added on the repo too

How was that firmware released?

Not sure how, used @Shalevbuko hint and launched a script to find it on their servers ;)

Made the custom firmware as well, still working fine on PSA Cars.

Got "Hardware error: Wi-Fi" after updating my old Carplay2air, just reflashing the update a second time worked, all worked directly on Carlinkit 2.0

Based on the content of the update they are planning to use another Wifi chip (Broadcom BCM4354 802.11ac 2x2 MIMO Bluetooth 4.1) instead of the Realtek 8822 (802.11ac 2x2 MIMO as well but Bluetooth 4.2), which is quite strange because BCM4354 is already quite old (2014)
I am confused by the size of the firmware for 1/28.

It shows only 93 KB
The others I have installed are usually around 7,000 KB

Is 1/28 a full image?

Cheers

2020 Toyota Rav4, with the new update 28.01.2021 my steering wheel buttons no longer work. Worked just fine on all prior updates.
After further use the buttons work fine in the Music app, but playing a podcast in Overcast doesn’t. I’ll probably just roll back to the December firmware since it didn’t have this issue.

Carplay2air no new update.

Most settings are easy to understand

- GPS : Switch between GPS signal from the car / from the phone
- Frame Rate : Limit the frame rate of the Carplay encoded video (it is a MP4 played by your head unit)
- Media Delay : Delay to sync audio with video ( I usually set 700ms, under 500ms the sound will be hatched )
- Sound Quality : Probably 128Kbits (CD) or 192 Kbits (DVD) encoded audio
- Sync mode : Probably the way how touch is transmitted
- Automatic : I would guess it is about auto connecting your phone at startup
- Startup Delay : Easy to understand, I use 5s
- Background mode : I don't know
When GPS is "On" does the GPS signal come from the iPhone or from the car? I did not notice any difference during the test.

I have the same question. It feels like it’s using the phone’s GPS regardless of whether GPS is toggled on or off. I tested it by obscuring GPS signal to the phone, and I also power cycled just to make sure the settings are applied.

Are you still using the Carlinkit with the XC40?

I am asking because I find that media information on the driver display (at the speedometer) is not consistently shown, especially with the recent update. Sometimes it gets stuck on a particular song, or doesn't display the media information at all. Same for incoming calls... sometimes they show up on the driver display and sometimes not. I'm unable to use the steering wheel button to accept or end the call when the call is not shown on the driver display. It is very inconsistent and I am unable to find out what is the issue, so I am wondering if there is a version you're using that is working well.

Feels like a minor issue, but definitely affects usability.

I am bu the 28.01 build has broken this. Just trying to revert to 20.01 now

2021.01.28.1446 img is great. Many peoples are reported, and it works for my Mazda mx5 Japan model as well. Siri, Google map, Apple Music are perfect with my steering control switch. It made my day.

It’s broken on the Volvo XC60 not trying to find a version to revert to that works.

Old builds (sept) seem not to work the Bluetooth interface.

I have wireless CarPlay in my vehicle already. In fact its my first experience of even having CarPlay in a vehicle!
While it is very useful and nice to have the phone left in your pocket and wirelessly connect to CarPlay, in some cases its a hinderance too - like when i want to connect to the wifi on my dashcam etc. I find CarPlay keeps trying to connect so I have to turn off bluetooth completely, tap OK to the message that keeps popping up about CarPlay disconnecting about 3-4 times, before I can go any further. This aside though, I still prefer wireless CarPlay over wired just down to sheer convenience. Everything streams perfectly fine, no issues at all.

Sadly...same for me too! The August firmware works for the time being, but hopefully the fix this soon. I have an email thread going with CarlinKit around this issue.
Ford Everest Sync 3.4. Siri works perfectly. Hey siri and Voice button are ok. Cplay2air firmware version 2021.01.28. also works only once after flashing the firmware. through the next day. it doesn't work again (not show bluetooth and wifi hostname). I have to flash the firmware again. Removing the carplay device (remove phone) in the sync screen has no effect.

@D3ggy:

Thanks for the info. It is also broken for me on 2021-01-08. I was on FW 2020-08-04 for a long time--it worked well enough (although not 100%), but I updated to be able to turn background mode on so it doesn't show the Carlinkit interface at startup.

is there a version that still keeps the controls active for the Volvo. I installed 28.01 and its killed all the functions and I tried reverting to a Sept build I had but they no longer connect to the phone on the start up screen so I am guessing something changed on the BT firmware that the old software cant call on.

So dissapointed that its broken the functionality

Have you found a version that will revert?

Not yet--will be testing this weekend.

On 2021-01-08, the steering wheel buttons still work for media control, but you can't see media info on dashboard and phone controls are not reliable. For the moment, I've set the car's driver display setting to "show no information in background".
