I renamed the 4-26-2021 firmware using another name suggested here (U2W_AUTOKIT_Update.img) and it took. Totally changed the boot up screen though. I can pair it through BT and it connects via WIFI, but my head unit always says searching for CarPlay. Seems sort of bricked but not. The web page menu comes up fine on 192.168.50.2 and I can change settings, etc but the green light never goes solid and car never sees it?

Is it a brick now or can I still salvage it?

Thanks!

Hopefully this is a simple question. I bought a carlink II. Plugging it in to my 2016 Silverado which has factory carplay. After the carlink powers up it does not appear in my bluetooth as an open connection and this is after disabling the Chevrolet Mylink. Am i missing something?

Still no April update for the red UI AUTOKIT edition.
You probably won't see anymore updates to the Red UI custom firmware. It got pulled and the one that was doing it was banned from the forums.

Once again, if you have a working solution -- DON'T UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE. Don't know if this applies to you but needs to be mentioned often.

My Carlinkit 2.0 is the AUTOKIT edition which comes with red UI. I am not really interested in CFW. There are currently no benefits apart from customizing the UI. I like the default red UI. Red UI does not imply that the FW is a custom one.

I know. I read through all the pages here and am familiar with the bricking ;) . I however want to keep my review up-to-date. I will also test the adapter in more cars.

The Red UI was coming on the 2.0 edition of some of these devices. It wasn't done by anyone in particular... mine actually arrived with the AUTOKIT theme already on it and has received updates OTA (latest one being the March update).

Not familiar with your car, but have you also selected and started CarPlay in your media system? The CarlinkIt needs to know that it is connected and not just powered up.

EDIT: you should see a (new) device available for CarPlay

Looking to add this to my 2018 Nissan Rogue. Found it on Amazon but there are so many versions- want to make sure I get the correct one.

Sorry - is there a question in there...?
thought my links had posted...

Searched on Amazon and see a flood of items- are these all the same just different vendors?
Anyone purchased any of these from Amazon or should I look elsewhere?

Fundamentally the same device, just different sellers and different pricing. You will also find these on AliExpress or at the CarlinkIt website (there is a menu option to switch it to English). Prices and delivery times may vary but as long as it is the CarlinkIt 2.0 then they are the same.

EDIT: you may want to seek confirmation from another vehicle owner that it does work, or check the CarlinkIt website for vehicle compatibility.

Yes, those are all the same thing.

If it were me, I would go for the "Used - Very good" condition one from the third link. It's sold by Amazon Warehouse (which is part of Amazon) and is probably one that someone returned. I have nothing other than my intuition to back this up but I would guess that a huge percentage of the returns on these are from people who aren't tech savvy enough to figure them out or thought it would add CarPlay to their car that doesn't have any CarPlay ability. Despite what you might read here, not much goes wrong with these little devices (physically, anyway).

Plus, buying from Amazon Warehouse is no-risk anyway. If you get it and it doesn't work you can return it for free and get a complete refund. That said, brand new ones are "only" ~$15 more, so it's not a huge savings.

Regardless, you should definitely buy from Amazon rather than Aliexpress or some other site because Amazon is a hassle-free return if it doesn't work. Peoples' experience with these things are extremely vehicle-dependent. Some cars work great with them, others have non-stop problems. So you're best off buying from somewhere you can easily return it if you're in the latter group.

Just want to confirm that Carplay2Air works perfectly (has for 2 years) in the 2019 Lexus ES350 with stock audio system. Performed all updates along the way and still works great.

Hi,

I installed version 2021-04-26 and nothing was heard through Carplay with my iPhone X (14.6 beta 2) and carlinkit 2.0 usb-c. I had to rollback to version 2021-04-19 from the menu itself and without any problem. Everything is heard correctly again.

Drove from Germany to Austria to visit my parents today. CarPlay froze once in my SEAT Leon with VW MIB 2. Had to replug the adapter.

So I did a rollback that says it was successful, now the unit doesn't do anything and there is no light, looks like my unit has been bricked :(

So on the way home, the adapter did not crash anymore. Dunno whether it is coincidence or not but when driving to my parents, the iPhone has been plugged into the USB port of the adapter for charging. CarPlay was still going over WiFi. On the way home, I did not connect the iPhone and the adapter ran quite a bit cooler.

Come to think of it, mine crashed during a 2 hour road trip with both the adapter and my gf’s phone charging with the other cable.

Then it is probably not carlinkit carplay but native carplay, the USB port does do pass through.

Read here for more info about how the adapter's USB port works. CarPlay was going over the adapter via WiFi. I can tell by the WiFi connection and the delay. The USB port of the adapter was used for charging only (no USB data passthrough).

(Native CarPlay never crashed on me in the past 3-4 years of using it on a SEAT Leon 2017 and 2019.)

Is it possible that the connected phone sips so much power that the adapter's processor starves? I'll keep an eye on it.

Only after update to 2021.03.06 I could install the firmware 2021.04.26. Can anyone confirm this? I think I was on 2021.01.28 before.

It is normal, they changed how the firmware is encrypted inside 2021.03.06 so you must upgrade to this version first to get future updates.

I will make a CFW tomorrow for this April version for those wanting it :)

EDIT: Done.

Sorry for stupid questions, I don't want to spoil anything. To upgrade from version 2021.03.06 AUTOKIT_AppleLike to version 2021.04.26 AUTOKIT_AppleLike do I have to add "U2W.sh" and "ARMimg_maker" from the "Scripts / Downgrade_2021.03.06" directory along with the new update file 2021.04.26 AUTOKIT_AppleLike.img?
Can I directly update to the version 2021.04.26 AUTOKIT AppleLike?
Thank you in advance for your answer.

Nice!
Can someone tell what is changed? Although release notes are normally not very detailed.

What about the screenshot with the 2021.05.09.001 firmware? Is that the custom made FW?
Yes. 0001 is always CFW.

Can someone tell what is changed?
Carlinkit just mentions "Fix some bugs" in their changelog. So it is probably nothing big. Hopefully making the updating process more stable, bricking less devices...
