What was interesting is it worked immediately after the upgrade. So I went back in to work.

when I went to drive home....it didn’t. Was stuck in a reboot.

I left the car for 20 minutes and rebooted my iPhone and it works again. Think my head unit had a funny.

Well my “never worked” CarLinkIt, which I’ve done the v2 update on, I’ve just tried in 2 different makes of car and same.

Basically plug in, nothing happens on car screen, and just a solid red LED.

No Bluetooth or WiFi, several reboot of dongle and iPhone still no good.

Is mine a dud? The update v2 seemed to go on as once I had nothing on screen, but got s WiFi connection, maybe another update popped up, I tried and it failed? No idea. If so how can you recover if no USB method?

What were the 2 makes of car?

if you plug your dongle into a windows pc does it show as iPhone?

Nissan and Citroen. Have never plugged into Windows PcC, will that make a difference? What will it allow me to do?

Thanks

You can't recover, another option is try someone elses car with carplay...seems to be the only true way to test

I have though, 3 cars all the same?
so, you either have a defective unit or the original v2 upgrade didn't go through correctly. Did you try different USB sticks?

or, have you tried a car that has been proven to work on these forums?

Jeep, Volvo, Audi, VW to name a few

I think the v2 did work, even though didn’t get on car screen it found a WiFinfor the dongle and I connected via 192.168.x.x and could see the interface so must have. It just hasn’t worked since.

Don’t have access to any of those unfortunately.

If it shows up as an iPhone it’s not defective.
So then what can you do? So plugging in should show it as an iPhone, if it doesn’t then it’s defunct?

2018 Mercedes CLAA 250. Still using the 12/31/2019 firmware and it’s working every time now so I won’t be updating the firmware any time soon. It connects regardless whether phone is locked/unlocked In drive, park or reverse. Only glitch occurred once with losing ability to control volume but that is something I can put up with given the issues I had previously had.

Is your CLA with the old Command-System or the new MBUX? My new A-Class (W177) with MBUX only showing, that the connected device is not supported.

I suspect I have the older version as the new one allows you to connect to your car from a smartphone, correct? For example, are you able to unlock your car from your smartphone? I do not have the ability to do that with my version of. Command.

I have two units, one of my cplay2air units is showing the same behaviour as yours, no Bluetooth, No Wifi, no connection, just a red light. The other one is fine with the latest software.

I have contact support and we’re working through it atm.

Yes, this is the older Version. According to Mercedes, the 2019 CLA has the new MBUX system. The new ones only have USB-C, so you need an adapter. That could cause the problems. I returned the adapter to Amazon.

When you saying working through it what are they doing exactly?

The only “support” I’ve had via WhatsApp is “...wait for new software” since September 2019....

I’ve asked 10s of times, how I will update if I can’t connect to it to get the update, with no answer.

It’s unacceptable that you can’t update it via USB. I don’t believe you can’t tbh they just want to the other way.

What happens if a bad firmware happens, and people then can’t connect via WiFi? Everybody has a dead dongle?

Where in the country are you @MrMister111 ?? If I'm reasonably close then I'll gladly help, at least plugging your device into my Audi. If I'm not close to you, perhaps some other kind soul on here who has it working with their car is? Just a thought anway.

I've updated mine today, to the latest version - and still works fine on my Audi S4 B9. Stiil not showing track info on Virtual Cockpit display when I play from Amazon Music (but have never tried on wired carplay to see if it does either, to be fair!)

I contacted support via email, they replied and gave me a set of fairly generic steps to go through. I've replied and confirmed that they have made no difference. I'll see what they come back with.

What were the steps? Plug in/out, update iPhone, delete connections etc?

I want them to answer how I can use when I, and others, can’t connect.

Copy of email below:

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for reaching out to us. Please follow the steps:

Reconnect the adapter

  1. Start your car and select "Cancel" when the connection appears so it doesn’t connect with your phone.
  2. Select and hold on the desired device name.
  3. Click “Remove.”
  4. On your phone's Bluetooth connections list, select CPLAY2air or AutoKit (depending on the model) and select "Forget the device."
  5. Plug the adapter back in and follow the setup instructions from the beginning.
Setup

1. Turn on the Bluetooth and WiFi networks on your phone.

2. Make sure your phone is not connected to any other WiFi or Bluetooth networks and remove the hands-free connection from your phone and car system settings.

3. Plug the adapter into the CarPlay USB port.

4. Wait for the interface to appear on the screen.

5. Click the search button.

6. Select the phone you want to pair the adapter with (or connect via the Bluetooth displayed on the screen).

7. Select "Pair" on your phone when the notification appears.

Let me know. Thanks!
