Wondering if anyone can help me out. I purchased a CarLinkIT kit from Amazon back in August. It didn't work.. would constantly reboot. I contacted CarLinkIT and they told me a new firmware would be out in October which would fix the issue... so I waited. I got the firmware file, and it doesn't seem to be installing. The device just constantly reboots when it's connected to the car. I contacted support again and they told me to wait for a new update. Finally in December, I got the latest update and instructions... again... it won't update. The red light on the device comes on but the blue light never comes on. I've waited 30+ minutes and have tried multiple USB flash drives formatted as FAT32... nothing works.

The device still constantly reboots when connected to my car. I tried connecting the device to my computer and it shows up as an iPhone... so I'm not sure what's going on. Any ideas on how to get this firmware updated? I've copied Auto_Box_Update.img to the root of the disk, connected it to a USB charger and I just sit there waiting.
What vehicle?

Has anyone used any of these in a Chevrolet Traverse? Or any chevy? And short of that any gm car period? I haven’t seen anyone talking about those. Or I missed it...

I’m using it on a 2018 Denali.
works around 90%

items not working.

1. maps voice prompts are too low. tried using the volume up while voice prompts are on and did not work.
2. Skip track buttons on steering wheel does not work. Volume up and down.

everything else works as if it was connected via lightning cable.

You do have to let the splash screen load first on the stereo before powering up the dongle..

I actually Installed a relay on the power Wire to the dongle so it doesn’t turn on till the ignition switches on. This gives the stereo time and splash screen to load before the dongle turns on. Has been loading 100% with this tweak.

Do Carlinkit and Carplay2air update their firmware the same way? Do they provide the same firmware with the same frequency?

I have a 2018 Chevy Traverse and it works, but does have issues. Here's the problems I have:
- Unit will not be recognized if it is plugged in when the car starts, you have to plug it in after everything is booted up, which kind-of defeats the point of using it.
- Steering wheel controls do not work for changing tracks, answering calls, etc. Nothing shows up in the driver information center either if you wanted to see track info there. Changing volume still works from the steering wheel controls.
- I've had a bunch of random crashes and audio stuttering when trying to use other apps (like Waze) while having music playing

Dang. Well it sounds like they release a lot of firmware updates so hopefully these things get fixed sooner rather than latter. Now I have to decide if I want to jump in or wait a bit longer to see if they can fix those issues first.

I have the same exact situation with Carplay2air USB Dongle and 2018 Honda Accord touring.

I bought Wireless Carplay USB Dongle for factory headunits with carplay from www.carplay2air.com

Car headunit detects the Dongle as a Carplay device and asks me to enable Carplay for this device. But no progress after that. Do not see carplay icon on the headunit and no carplay device in headunit settings menu.

It's only constant red light on the Dongle. I don't see any Bluetooth or WiFi device in iPhone menu.

I have this exact same issue for what it's worth. I have a friend with a compatible car and will try to update the firmware OTA and see if it fixes the Honda issues.

Two things I noticed since 31-Dec update (Audi Q5):
  • The side scroll bar consistently appears on lists (playlist, songs, etc). Somehow the dongle seems to report itself as a touch screen with low-fidelity touch. In earlier firmware and direct-plugged in, this scroll bar doesn’t appear. Not a deal breaker, but it takes a little bit of screen real estate and pretty useless since the display is not a touch screen and you can’t set focus on them using the knob either.
  • When starting up the car, MMI switch to the dongle immediately and I can see the screen where the list of device is shown, then Connecting... then the actual Carplay appears. In earlier firmware MMI switch over to the dongle only after the actual Carplay is connected. This results in a more seamless experience.
So for me the 25-Dec is the best one so far. Just a heads up for other MMI users out there.

Anyone not in a Volvo or Audi try this update yet? Staying away from updates on the Jeep first from now on :)

I don’t have either of the two problems in the release notes that they mention so I may skip this one as well

Ok, so I have some information to add to this thread.....

One of the users on here had a dongle with the issue that many are describing. Plug it in, RED led is lit but no wifi or bluetooth.

So I bought it off him.........

I plugged it into my Volvo and it worked....straight away.....

It needed to be activated, so I had to find the wifi network on the screen and use passcode 12345678, and then the dongle activated. I then proceeded to update the firmware via 192.168.50.2.

So, I think the thing to take away from this is....for those of you with this issue, you really need to plug it into a supported vehicle to at least activate it (Volvo, Audi etc) as without activation, it appears that no bluetooth will be shown. Then update to the latest firmware. (As this is what may or may not contain fixes for your vehicle)

I now have 3 dongles, but only 2 cars :p At least it makes testing new firmware safer :)

Also...I just plugged it into my Windows PC and it no longer shows as an Iphone. Just as an unidentified device.

So maybe the older firmware shows as an iPhone in Windows, but now it just shows as unidentified device, but it DOES work 100% in the Volvo....

I remember seeing a post about someone saying the Maps volume was too low. I can’t find the original post. I discovered tonight...by accident..that Siri volume is independent of music.

get Siri to read out a reasonably long iMessage in CarPlay whilst adjusting the car volume knob. That will increase the volume for Siri but not music.

I have two of the Carplay2air units, after a late December update one continues to work fine, the other just shows the red LED. Both are used in Audis.

When you say connect to the Wifi network "on the screen" what are you referring to there? My problem unit does not show any UI on the cars display at all, and I also cannot see any SSID being broadcast from the unit when I look for Wifi networks on my phone.

Since the phone will be also connecting to the WiFi on the dongle, does that mean it won’t connect to the hotspot in car? How does it work simultaneously? Anyone uses both?

Both is not possible!

Please update us after trying in other cars.

No go yet on the Accord. I was able to successfully update the firmware and verify functionality on my friend's Jeep, so at least I know the adapter works. I contacted the seller and they mentioned that they are actively working on Accord support, will let everyone know once I have an update.

I also have the same audio stuttering issue. Hope it gets fixed soon...

I know in Audi if the phone is left in the phone box or connects to the USB cable, it would have a voice feedback to remind you that the phone is left in the vehicle. I know I can turn that off in the MMI. However, if the phone is not connected to Carlinkit wirelessly for Apple Carplay, and the Carlinkit device is still connected to the car, would it still have the same warning message? Thank you.

I still have voice navigation instructions stuttering on 2020.01.06.

Fidling around, I just found out that on the "web interface" we can submit bug reports.

Just click on the round button, select open log and the press then last button (in chinese). A form will popup where you should enter the car model and the problem you are facing. On pressing submit, the report is sent with attached log files from the device (as I understand).

I submited my two issues, let's see if they can fix them, if so, the device would be perfect on my car! :D
