I haven't noticed any degradation. Certainly better than BlueTooth.

The provider told me that wire and wireless are same quality but native bluetooth has more quality than wire or wireless carplay (also than android)

How could the Bluetooth connection have the better quality than the wired Carplay?

I dont know, that is what provider says. Maybe is about using a USB port for transfer the data (wired is from lighting to USB and wireless is with the wireless dongle)

Thats great! I was thinking that you would lose some audio quality. Right now I have my native system but in the future when the lag problems in android system get solved maybe I will install an android display. Its possible to use the carplay2air in a Android system or only is valid for native multimedia system?

WiFi should have better performance than Bluetooth as it has more bandwidth as far as I am aware.

But if you use the carplay2air or similar (carlinkit) the connection is by USB dongle and this one connects by wifi with the phone, so the base connection is USB (this is what told me the provider)

Had another reply from CarPlay2Air who said they’ve confirmed works on Vauxhall, I’m still dubious as my CarLinkIt has never worked.

I’ve mentioned that they are same dongles, which they just dismiss, and say can’t comment.

I’ve asked for video proof, but say haven’t got it. Anyone with a CarPlay2Air try it in a Vauxhall with Intellilink system, and prove please, and take video if does/doesn’t so I can tell them please?

And USB is faster then Bluetooth...

FWIIW, the Bluetooth standard is currently under revision. The new version is said to offer appreciably better sound quality than the original. That, of course, remains to be seen, but it does sound [sic] promising..

Wired Carplay streams music in LPCM format (lossless), Wireless Carplay streams in AAC-LC (lossy). There is a little bit of compression but for most people (myself included) it’s very hard to notice the difference when driving the car with all of the other noises going on.

Still a lot better than Bluetooth A2DP which is limited to 0.3Mb/s. Nowhere close to the stream capacity of 802.11g (54 Mb/s) and 802.11n (600Mb/s) in newer cars.

I ’m NEO, from Carlinkit, I ’m willing to answer your questions about U2W,This is a product based on the wired Carplay protocol. The wired and wireless protocol interworking is realized through our equipment. We have been updating this project, and it is currently compatible with most original carplay models on the market.

You are right. Wireless transmission is via WIFI, not Bluetooth. Bluetooth is only used for device discovery. At present, many front-loading vehicles use 802.11g. We have adjusted the wireless connection to 300Mbps in version 2.0 and use 5.8Ghz communication.

Welcome to the thread @CarlinKit (Neo). I'll start: Is there a way to go back to an older software build? I found that the best build for my Audi is the 2019.12.25. Also, there's an issue with song information freezing on the Audi virtual cockpit after 1-2 minutes of use.

@Neo

Welcome to the thread, great to see the manufacturer taking an active interest in the customer base.

For me the unit works really well I would however like to see the button used to answer and end calls on the steering wheel functioning correctly along with the info in the dash. That would be fantastic as it works for the wired carplay experience (see video). My car is a 2020 model Volvo XC60

Welcome Neo, so many questions you’ll get from people.

I’m the OP maybe we could collect all questions and add in one thread at the top to allow to see all and then can cut past individual questions in a reply?

Unless someone can think of better way?

@CarlinKit my question is it’s never ever worked on any firmware in my Vauxhall with Intellilink. Just keep getting told wait for new firmware, which I have since September, and was quoted back then it would work.

You're still using some old software. The connection screen still shows the version from 11.11.2019.
You are using the old 1.0 Version...

Meanwhile there is the big 2.0 update, unfortunately I can't say if the behaviour you show will change, because my Volvo hasn't been delivered yet ;)

It’s an old video, I am on the latest software but the issue is still the same for this particular interaction.

I'd say, reproduce the issue and then open the web interface on your phone, press the small button and then the one in chinese. input your car model and describe the issue and press submit to send them the device logs.

It’s already in hand directly. Just thought I’d re-iterate the issue here. No need to do it again.

Thanks Neo for joining the thread. It's fantastic that the manufacturer has joined the conversation, feedback from users will greatly help the development of this promising device.

I have a 2018 Volkswagen e-Golf with the 9.2" Discover Pro 2017 MIB2 head unit. The adapter does not work reliably with it.

It seems to work the longest on a cold start (maybe 10-15 minutes), and then it crashes back to the VW App-Connect screen saying "phone connection was cancelled", which is the same message you would get if the iPhone was unplugged while using wired CarPlay.

Sometimes it disconnects with the dongle shutting down (the USB port stops outputting power, LED on the adapter turn off) while sometimes it disconnects and goes from a flashing blue LED to a solid blue LED, and will not boot back up until it is left unplugged for a couple of minutes.

Once unplugged for a couple of minutes, it boots back up (flashing red LED), re-establishes the CarPlay connection (flashing blue LED), but disconnects after barely a couple of minutes of usage. At which point the adapter is unusable.

I know the adapter can work, when it works for those first 10-15 minutes it is glorious. But in this state it is not usable unfortunately :(

I hope you can fix these bugs Neo, if there is anything I can do to help troubleshoot please let me know.

Hello Neo! Great to have you onboard!

I find the device working almost perfectly in my 2020 Volvo XC60. The only problem is when streaming music from any of the streaming services the track information display in the center of the dashboard freezes after a few track changes. Track information in the CarPlay screen is always correct. Everything else is working great. I'm using the latest firmware downloaded via my phone at 192.168.50.2.

dude, time to let this die.....we have all helped you to the MAX! I gave you the advice of opening a dispute on your CC to get your money back, and all you need to do is show the CC company your messages with them, and prove to them the product that was sold in fact does NOT work with the vehicle. They will come back with "small compatibility issue" like they did with me, but at least they fixed 99% of the jeep problem. SO, technically, Jeep is compatible. You WILL get your money back if you can prove they have false advertising on your vehicle

Is it compatible with the Amundsen infotainment from Skoda? I think it's the same as the Discover from VW. Also, in case is compatible, any problems with it? I read some post before with the Discover Pro (not the same HW as mine) that it disconnects after 10-15 min.

I would say don’t ever update it anymore. If that is your only issue leave it alone.
