That's the last official one. The newest inofficial one is 2020-03-06. Download it here http://112.74.112.110/download/2020-03-06/U2W_Update.img, copy it to the root of an USB stick and stick the USB key into the Carplaylink units USB port, afterwards activate ignition or start the car. It should show the update procedure on the cars screen. You can find out if the installation worked by going to 192.168.50.2 in your iPhone browser. There you'll see the installed Firmware version number. These instructions are also in the OP.

I have downgrading and upgraded many times in the past till I found the best one for my truck. This is NOT HOW I DID IT.

What is OP and location on iPhone safari app?

There are certainly many ways. I described how it worked for me. OP is the Original Post on page 1.

CarPlay2Air and Carlinkit are the same device. My advice (from experience) is to buy the one that offers the easiest returns and protection. For me, I ordered both. CarPlay2Air from China three weeks ago and it hasn't left China, Carlinkit from Amazon Prime coming tomorrow. From this thread, CarPlay2Air will leave you high and dry if the product doesn't work with your car, so be prepared to eat ~$130 bucks. Amazon will take Carlinkit back. I don't know if it works on your car or not.
That makes sense. Thanks for that

Sorry guys quick question. Which one do I get? My cars a Seat which is basically a Volkswagen. Apple CarPlay built in. They both are carlinkit. Both say 2.0 with ota upgrades but they look different. And ones £159 and the other one‘s £129

£159 one. Amazon UK

£129 one. Amazon UK

The more expensive one ships locally. Other from China. Same thing.

Cplay2air are rubbish, didn’t connect to MY20 VW Touareg. No technical support, no return policy. The organisation is dishonest as any poor review is not posted on their site.

It's quite a rough start as a first message here... This thread shows that there is indeed support by the vendor but it can be mediocre. However it's a complex topic. We know that the device is not approved by the Apple MFi program and there are so many different implementations of wired Carplay by the manufacturers. However there are a lot of information in this thread to find a solution. You could start by providing more information about your setup like the navigation unit you are using (e.g. Discover Premium) and what steps you already tried (e.g. is BT and WLAN working?, did you do an update attempt - OFA and/or USB) etc.

Seems VW and Audi were pretty much a sure thing for it to work. I agree with above, try to troubleshoot.

Agree seems like I’m being harsh however this after weeks of frustration with responses being endless questions. I have even sent them a video of doing the process. I feel like they have dragged it out to exclude a return as a refund. Any website that won’t post all reviews except 5 star I feel has something to hide (Cplay2air.com)
Ok let’s trouble shoot. Its a MY20 Touareg with inovision and sound and comfort as the two options.
I have tried both with and without having the car and phone previously paired with the head unit. I have tried having my wifi connected to the house and not connected. I have tried plugging the dongle in before and after starting the ignition.
every time gives me the some result. Red light on dongle, no change to head unit in both CarPlay or Bluetooth screens. No change to phone in anyway
It’s as if the only thing the dongle is doing is showing a red light.
happy to try and upgrade however with the instructions provided and what I could find online I thought the dongle had to be connected via Bluetooth or wifi to a phone for that to happen. I can’t get it to connect with anything. any helps greatly appreciated

Got mine up and running in minutes. Add 2017 Maserati Ghibli to the list. Of course I’ll have to use it longer than 15 minutes to report bugs or anomalies. Boot up time is about 10 seconds. Audio quality sounds perfect just like it did when wired, maybe better. Maybe a half second lag changing songs with steering wheel controls. Touch display is just as responsive as wired. Phone calls crystal clear. The only thing I noticed is that when I changed songs when wired, the song would display on my center display for a second and then go back to the speedo. Doesn’t do this wireless and I remember reading about this in the thread. I can manually display it there so it’s reading it, but really not a big deal.

I did check for an update and it updated. I assume this is the latest release, see pic. Am I running the latest 2.0 official firmware?

I understand you got this one from Amazon but glad you finally got one device after that waiting. Your experience is similar to mine with CarPlay2Air, a little lag, clear phone calls, same update process, same software version. But, I do get the song changes in my instrument cluster on wireless. Enjoy ! :)

Thanks. I did think the song changes in the instrument cluster was solved. Must be car by car. I could try the March update that must be done via USB, but I think I’ll leave well enough alone at the moment.

Hi mate just reading the thread, did you have a Carplay2air which didn't work and swapped it with a different supplier for a different unit called Carlinkit with the latter working??

Well I am more of the type « if it ain’t broke don’t fix it » guy so I won’t change anything on mine as it works as supposed unless there is an OTA update...

No, I originally ordered the Carplay2Air, but it never arrived and the company gave me the runaround, so I ordered the Carlinkit from Amazon Prime. They are the same product.

I disputed it with PayPal and the ruled in my favor super quick. My guess is that they have had many complaints about this merchant. I was surprised it was so quick as they could have said to wait to see if it arrives. Supposedly it did ship, but showed no movement for three weeks. It's bull they are charging you a fee.

Looks like MY2020 models are not supported as yet. What do you think, hold on to the device and hope the USB update works when it happens down the track or look for a refund via paypal?

I ordered a CPlay2air unit last week and received it today. I tried it on 2 cars, both load up the CarPlay screen and have a search button to find a phone. Selecting the search button it never finds my iPhone and on my iPhone I never see the device. I assume you should at least see it on one device. I upgraded the firmware to 3/06 version via the USB. I've sent them email, but anybody have any suggestions?

I made sure the profiles of my phone and car were deleted, before starting.

Have you tried using it on another car with CarPlay if you have access to one? A coworker or friend? Have you considered trying the $138 Amazon Prime Carlinkit 2.0 which is the same device and returning it if it does the same thing? Or hopefully works out of the box. I linked it a few posts back. Definitely USB flash the one you have now though.

After seeing the U2H firmware, I started questioning what it could be.

Looks to me like they have brought out new hardware with a USB-C connector.

Had another reply from CarPlay2Air who said they’ve confirmed works on Vauxhall, I’m still dubious as my CarLinkIt has never worked.

I’ve mentioned that they are same dongles, which they just dismiss, and say can’t comment.

I’ve asked for video proof, but say haven’t got it. Anyone with a CarPlay2Air try it in a Vauxhall with Intellilink system, and prove please, and take video if does/doesn’t so I can tell them please?

I tried the carplay2air in my 16 plate insignia with navi 900 (quoted on their website as working), an 18 plate corsa and an 18 plate Astra. No joy. Paypal have refunded product in full and return postage as it was clearly mis sold to me. After buying and asking for support they told me it wouldn't work with VX! Good luck with getting yours working.

Yeah I was tempted to go for this one, but I’m not sure it’s even in production yet. Carlinkit website doesn’t even have a price on it and the 3 weeks to ship tells me it’s more of a preorder. So, we all know what claims from Chinese companies mean....lesson learned, product in hand from local seller is a must.

All this said, I’m pretty sure it’s just a repackaging of the last one with a removable USB. The “type C” won’t add any increased transfer speeds, but they probably want you to think so.

This one specifically says that it works over 5Ghz Wifi. Not convinced the existing ones do.

I'll keep updating with shipping. Paid for DHL shipping. Bought via AliExpress.
