I managed to flash my Carlinkit very easily indeed. I first tried firmware 3.06 but I had the same problem as with 1.22 but in addition CarPlay restarts all 2 miniutes but if I do nothing.
So I tried firmware 3.04 and it's the same :(
Anyone have firmware 1.22 that I can reflash my CarLinkit and at least be able to use it without music?

Thank you

So if you take the top link that anthover provides and click on it, you'll get a 404. Because it's really looking for 3/06/ 2020. But if you change the URL in your browser bar to 1 for the month and 22 for the date you will download 1/22.

Link fixed on prior page it should download now. I actually tried to attach the file but system will not let me.

Thanks. Attached 1.22 file below, as noted its zipped you will need to extract prior to putting on a USB stick. URL download on prior page works as well (properly edited URL, sorry about that). Also repeated the URLs on this page.

Another poster provided this format below for "looking for updates for different dates. I have not looked for a while but checked every date from Jan23 to May if i recall a while back.

Hmmm.....that’s a tough one. I guess it probably makes to give up the speed and stick with the older units to be able to flash them with the older firmware only now available through people that saved it.

What is the best place to purchase the older one? The newer one is more readily available it seems now and seems to be the cheapest for me (about AU$190). Carplay2Air is about AU$50 more (through their website). Can't seem to find any for sale of the older carlinkit... though this is confusing as their seems to be an Android auto version and difficult to tell which is which.

Carlinkit is sold by Aliexpress, Amazon, and Ebay in US. Not sure sure about AU. You would know your local and Web based vendors best. The price range here is US $100 to $150 with frequent sales and pricing cheaper on what is being shipped from China versus the US because people want things in days not weeks. My understanding is for an extra $10 or $20 us you can get something shipped faster from China reducing the difference in time. You are closer potentially in shipping time if not distance.

I would only buy from somewhere you trust return wise. Amazon only as an example has things they sell direct and things from their market place but they still offer certain level of guarantee if your not happy. Same with Ebay. I have no experience with Aliexpress.

I would not personally bother with Car2playair in general because they just private labeling carlinkit. They use the same update servers and firmware. Car2playAir support is from what i understand and questions i have asked sub par. So there seems to be no benefit.

As to all the different models carlinkit makes for our purposes two (USB-C and hardwired).
Look in descriptions for ** Wired to wireless carplay for OEM and AV Carplay systems. ** Do not confuse devices that talk about Android based head units or others devices they make.

As to USB-C versus hardwired part of it comes down to your car. If it has native USB-C then I would lean toward that model harder. We do not have a crystal ball regarding what Carlinkit will do with USB-C version versus hardwired I suspect their phasing out the hardwired version. They tend to be responsive with updates. I do not believe the lack of updates for USB-C version is permanent. As long as your buying from a reputable place I think it makes sense to go with what is current (USB-C) since you can always return it if it does not meet your needs. While I am super happy with 3.04 and the hardwired one there just as many people (probably way more) who need to stick with 1.22 firmware because their car's AV system prefers it. Carlinkit asks for you to upload logs if you run into issues they use these to update the firmware to meets customers needs. The only logical reason for 1.22 to be the only version on the OTA (over the air update) at this juncture is because the majority of their customers must be better with that option.

Good Luck

Just my opinion but if I were buying right now I would get the USB-C one--mainly because it's the current model and has some hardware design improvements if nothing else. I would expect Carlinkit to release newer firmware for it at some point--probably sooner than later considering some of them are shipping with firmware from March 18th, which is newer than has been available for the old-style adapter. If you can get the USB-C model cheaper then it's a no-brainer IMHO.

Granted, I have no crystal ball. Caveat emptor and all that jazz.

There is a loyalty coupon out there for $40 off CP2A. The only downside is them. They are not as responsive or easy to deal with as Carlinkit. I guess Aliexpress for the older Carlinkit.

As I said, your question or concern about manually updating is something to consider, but the more I think about it, the more I think it makes sense to get the newest USBC version. I’m fairly certain it’s gonna work perfectly for you out of the box based on other Porsche owners experience. Plus, we are talking about two variations of firmware, 3.04 and 3.06 they are available only to people who have saved them. It’s questionable why these were developed and for who, but basically the problem cars benefit from these, not the majority of successful implementations. So, in essence, no big deal. They will update firmware at some point. If your USBC performs like mine, you won’t care about updates.

OK... so I will get the USB-C version. Most options (Alliexpress, Ebay, Amazon) end up around AU$190 +/-5. I will take the ebay option just cause I use them the most and they do stand by their customers in disputes. Never used Alliexpress before, and amazon seems to be a bit more painful in Australia.

Nice. Good luck. $190 AUS sounds about right ($125 USD). If you have the option on eBay to expedite shipping for a reasonable fee, do it. It’s the difference between getting it in 1 week vs 6-7 weeks.

I got my USB-C version from Aliexpress and it has 3.18 on it for anyone curious. Ordered on May 18th.

I've been using the non USB-C version with my Audi Q7 and my iPhone Xr since january. It has been working well except for one thing. There is a sound delay of approx 1.5-2 seconds in phone calls. Really frustrating! I've tested many (all?) different versions of firmware and all of them have had the same issue.

I just got a USB-C version from Aliexpress (don't know what firmware version was on it, but it wasn't the latest. updated to 1.22). To my big disappointment it has the same sound delay in phone calls as the old one. :(

I really hope a future firmware update will resolve this.

I had terrible call delay issues when I first installed my non USB-C unit in my Hyundai Santa Fe. I lived with it for quite a while, all the while trying to find a fix. I uninstalled/re-installed it a dozen times. It was during one of these uninstall/re-installs that I noticed in the CarPlay settings on my phone that the wired Carplay was still showing, in addition to the wireless. I removed the wired one, and the delays went away. It's been fine ever since.

Well I tried the USB-C version today hoping (against reason) that it would work in my 2020 Malibu where the original model didn’t. Unfortunately no difference. No connection whatsoever.

So, I’ll be putting it on eBay soon. If anyone wants one- virtually new- more quickly and cheaper, PM me here. Thanks.

Please note that my earlier post has been edited. The original version incorrectly said that it was a BT setting on the phone that was causing the call delay. It was actually a CarPlay setting on the phone that had to be removed. Hope this helps someone. Sorry for the confusion.

Sorry to hear that Mike.

Hi there. I usually wouldn’t say this with such confidence, but the USB-C version or even the older one will work fine with your Porsche. I read a lot of threads on these before buying and one long one on a Porsche board and it worked similar to how mine works in my Maserati. I’m pretty sure they nailed Porsche early on.

catching up on the thread. I wouldn't be too sure about working with a Porsche. I bought the carplay2air to use with my 2018 991.2 and the wife's 2017 Macan. Neither work. The PCM thinks an iPhone is connected and I can see the menu, but on the iPhone I never see a SSID. The PCM never display the SSID name it's using. Unit also doesn't work in my F150, same issue.

carplay2air folks were useless and only said to return it to China. If the unit worked, I would be charged a restocking fee. I would avoid them. Website has a US address, which is just a UPS store mailbox.

Oh boy. I’m sorry I’m advance if it doesn’t work.

Thanks. My heart wanted it to work but my head told me it wouldn’t. BTW, is there an LED on this model? I had nothing at all light up for me to even ensure there was power.

Yes, it’s on the front. It’s pretty dim.

Just a tip in general for all generations of of these devices.
- Set up away from wifi networks you join with or set all such networks to manual join on your phone
- Delete all bluetooth association and carplay settings from car and phone both before begin setting up
