Does anyone of you know if the CPlay2Air adapter will also work in an Audi Q7 from 2016?

I mentioned above I have a new USB-C version available for sale. I’ve had a couple of feelers but it hasn’t sold yet. Will put it on eBay at the end of the week. If you want one much more quickly than Amazon LMK. Thanks.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the description of this product from the get go to now on many websites emphasized VW and Audi (AKA VW). I am guessing they had enough confidence to highlight these cars because it works. That said, someone who had a Porsche chimed in recently and said it didn't work. But I am guessing the VW motor group was the first group of cars they tackled and coded for.

I have a 2019 Q7 and there is a delay on phone conversations that make it unusable for phone conversations. With that being said everything else works pretty much flawlessly.

Yeah that would be a non-starter for me. I went into this with the mindset that if there was anything annoying like not connecting, audio issues, integration, etc. I was going to call it a day and plug back in

Luckily they somehow got Maserati right. Phone calls work perfectly as they did wired.

The only difference between wired and wireless for me is the tracks take a split second to change. I’m pretty sure even Apple Wireless CarPlay does the same. This issue is really not an issue. I can wait a half second.

I’ve got a carlinkit 2.0 and it does the exact same thing. The delay there’s nothing that black be done other than try deleting the other CarPlay setting in your phone for when you hooked it up by wire. That seems to help but only a little bit. The blue ring I’ve found goes away if you swipe across to another page and swipe back. This is on a Seat Tarraco.

Wish i saw this thread before buying! I bought a CPlay2Air unit last week and it arrived yesterday - it seems to work fairly well in my Ford Fiesta with Sync 3.4 - it connects within 5/10 seconds - only 2 minor issues is some apps seem to have a blue ring around them which is used for a physical control which my car dont have - and skipping music there is a noticeable 2/3 second delay - not used it for a phone call yet.

I didn't even know Carlinkit was an alternative let alone the original device! Is the hardware in the Carlinkit 2.0 USB C unit better than the CPlay2Air unit which may be quicker? I havent checked the firmware on my Cplay2air unit yet to see if there is an upgrade.

sorry forgot to quote your message to my reply above

Simps firmware can make a difference but the benefit of each firmware version is pretty dependent on each cars AV system. The firmware versioning is by date. If you car2playair/carlinkit came with firmware prior to version 1.22 aka January 22nd then you can and should use the OTA (Over the Air update option). You do that from the safari browser on your iphone type in 192.168.50.2

Others will have to update further to March firmware updates which are archived in this forum. The same web page will also scan your device and tell you the version of firmware you have loaded.

Please note do not mess with/disconnect the adapter while its updating. Whether your doing an OTA or USB based fimreware update the little LEDs will start of blue and go to blue and red when its done. Leave it for a few minutes after no matter what to be safe.

Hello all, long-time reader, but just joined this forum to ask about this product.

I did read the last several pages of this thread, but I didn't see a direct answer to my question, and I'm also thinking that older posts won't necessarily be applicable to newer firmware.

I'm planning to get the Carlinkit 2.0 USB-C version, but since my wife and I are often in the car together, I'm hoping there's an easy way to switch between which paired phone is used for CarPlay. The Aliexpress page for this product shows a "List Management" screen that I've posted below, which looks like exactly what I'd want, but it's not clear how to get to that screen. Is there a convenient way to access that screen after the Carlinkit has already started CarPlay with the "wrong" phone?

I don't think there's an easy way to do it via the UI after it's connected to a device. You can turn off the wifi on the "wrong" phone, that'll trigger the device to go back to that connection screen. For many though, unplug/plugging the device may be the easier option.

Thanks trisnadi. So disconnecting and reconnecting the device always causes that connection screen to appear for a few moments, even if the device sees a paired phone, or the last used phone? If that screen was always shown for a few seconds at startup to allow me to select a specific phone before it defaults to one, I think that would be preferable to dealing with toggling WiFi on phones.

Thinking about it, I guess I can see why it might be difficult to implement on-demand access to that connection screen. The infotainment system thinks it's a wired CarPlay setup, so it would have no reason to offer a way to do that. The phone generating the CarPlay interface would know it was wireless, but maybe Apple doesn't implement a "Switch device" function within CarPlay itself and instead relies on the head unit manufacturer to implement that.

Seems like this would be a case where a physical button on the device itself would be handy....

Reconnecting the device will give you that window to select which device you want to connect. This is no different to when you turn on the car each time. The device wakes up, initiate and make an attempt to establish connection to the last device used. During this time you can hit 'cancel' so you can set up another device or manually switch to another device. I can't remember for sure though, if it'll automatically try for the 2nd device if it fails to connect to the first device. But sounds like this scenario isn't applicable to you since you mentioned that both devices are often in the car.

has anybody tried 2020-06-06 update?

112.74.112.110/download/2020-06-06/U2W_Update.img

Nice find! I'll give it a shot later this afternoon.

Edit: Download from their site is suuuuuuper slow for me. Like 1K/sec. May take all day!

Edit 2: Per the post below, I will wait. Suggest others do too for now.

I just tried this and I think my device is bricked. Only the blue led illuminates and it is a steady blue light. I have flashed previous files before, this wasn’t my first time. I recommend you don’t flash the update from the 6th. I have the 1st general Carplay2Air adapter from China.

Similar experience with the blue light when I bricked my first one. Personally, if it is not OTA, your playing russian roulette with crap they place on their server that we have zero perspective on.

Oh man, thanks for taking one for the team. Even though you have a C2A, I would suggest trying to get in touch with Carlinkit, maybe via Whatsapp if you have that. Maybe the state it's in is recoverable somehow.

Got my fingers crossed that they can help you get it going again. Maybe put the 3/4 update on your flash drive and see if you can reinstall that?

Keep us posted, and thanks again for the heads-up!

I see. I took the gamble because I wasn’t using the adaptor for a few weeks. I couldn’t deal the the audio delay when having a conversation and the random audio cuts/ freezes (interference) when passing my certain areas of 495. I went back to using wired carplay.

I think I would have done the same then if I had given up and it wasn't usable. Just so you know, I wasn't trying to rub it in or say I told you so. I just had a bad experience manually flashing and we don't have a track record or any communication lately on them giving out instructions to try beta's. Fortunately, my bricked one was a Carlinkit Amazon Prime purchase.

I purchased a USB-C carlinkit on ebay about ten days ago and it arrived in a week so that was impressive from China (to Australia). Over the weekend I connected it to my iphone 11 and Porsche 718. It worked as advertised. Connected fine and everything works as expected. I have not made a phone call yet so can't comment on delays. The firmware in it is the 3.18 firmware which comes up in OTA check as the latest.

The only think I noticed is one time I drove the car it did not connect. I presume this is because my phone was connected to my home wifi network. What is the standard way to deal with that... select don't connect automatically to home wifi?
