This won’t happen but this is almost exactly the iPhone I want. I like my iPhone X but it’s too large. What I want is the iPhone X in the iPhone SE sized casing. In other words, a PREMIUM smaller-sized iPhone X. I don’t want a phablet and even the iPhone X is larger than I’d prefer. Apple: make three sizes of premium iPhones: 4” case, 4.8” case, and 5.5” case. Do that and a budget phone and you’re set.

Oh I see, we have a render and sketches followed by Mac Rumors ‘OPINION’ on it not having Face ID.

Whilst that maybe a valid opinion, it is only an opinion and one that presumes Apple has not shrunk the Face ID tech despite rumours even on this site claiming they will.

Wait, so there's a notch but no FaceID? What's the purpose of that if there is no FaceID? People already hate the notch but at least it has a purpose. Leave it just the way it looks for the next 10 years, people will be happy with that.

I just don’t believe the SE will look anything like this. This is nothing more than a render. The SE was intended as an affordable entry level priced iPhone as a global iPhone, this render would totally defeat the SE price point being a global iPhone meant for countries where other smart phones are overly expensive.

Many app developers are ignoring the SE with their screen designs, so screens end up scrolling up and down. Imagine opening a banking app, and you need to scroll the screen down to view the "Login" button. Yes, that's a reality today. I think this notch design bring much-needed attention back to the SE and enforce screens that are the correct size for the device. The extra space at the top for the indicators would free up space for the app.

I LIKE! This will be my new phone if it's true. Please, let it be true!

the notch would allow the indicators (Clock, Wi-Fi, etc.) to be further up, freeing up space for the app. See my previous comment about how App developers are not targeting the SE with their screen designs, and the user experience is degraded. This notch design would mitigate that.

Makes some sense but I don't think a lot of SE users would even like having that notch without a specific purpose. Your idea does make some sense but I believe you might be in the minority.

The notch allowed for the latest and greatest iPhone to be spotted out in the wild. Marketing. Same reason the AirPods are ugly on purpose. They simply stand out

Would be better if they simply kept the same sized screen as the current SE, and shrunk the casing around it to eliminate the bezels.

On the subject of touchID vs faceID inclusion; it's possible that there's misinterpretation in being a fully flat surface, but not full screen. Could be that the home button is completely solid state and not "clicky".

Have a good life on another operating system and brand! Headphone is not coming back, and Apple is finally going to unify the iPhone line, looks wise.
Unlike some iPhone die-hards, I had a smartphone life before iPhones, and I'll have quite a nice one after as well. The SE brought me back to an iPhone. When Apple does away with it, they'll lose me as a customer.... not that my single purchase matters. :)

I agree but SE users like their phones just the way it is (square design, headphone jack, 4 inch screen, etc.) I personally don't have a problem with the notch. I was just saying that implementing a notch, that majority of people here already hates, on a phone that people love just the way it looks, without having a purpose (FaceID), would just be ridiculous. If it's just for aesthetics only, that wouldn't be received well by the SE community.

"Chinese company Vivo's new X20 Plus UD became the first smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor early this year, but Apple seems to have elected against that approach."

...but they haven't given up. That just said its too hard.. I still think Apple will do in-display eventually.

God that thing is beautiful. I love the size of the SE, but want a slightly updated design and this would be perfect. Apple I'm ready to pay a premium for this.

Unfortunately think it's pretty unlikely :(

If this is true, I’m literally going to sprint to the Apple store the moment it’s released.

As many have said this seems to good to be true. But...

The future is obviously Face ID. It would be anachronistic for Apple to launch another 4 inch phone with the home button. The 8 feels more like an anomaly as each day goes by.

And the SE is still really great & really fast. What would the point of an upgrade to A10 or A11 be?

So maybe this is true. Maybe Apple is going to do this:

- SE2 with Face ID at a higher price than the current SE2.
- Original SE hangs around and gets a further price cut - it’s still a great entry level phone.
- The LED Face ID ‘iPhone 9’ is released early.
- There is a precedent for launching new iPhones at WWDC.
- And there will be so much pent up demand for these devices we can expect to see high demand the next 6 months. Why wait until September? Face ID is a hit.
- (and we’ll likely see the new iPad Pro too)
- So Apple refreshes its entire mid range iPhone product line early.
- The message to devs is: optimise your apps for the notch. NOW!
- September is left for the Watch with new form factor, new EarPods & new iPhone X/Edition & the plus version. - the perfect holiday gifts, right?
