I think apple will add fingerprint sensors onto SE's side or top Power Buttons...

I'm not a fan of IOS but I love having my iPhone SE as my backup (so that I can use my Apple Watch). Sony is the one that got me spoiled to small phone factors. It's much more challenging to have good design at the smaller level whereas we see this trend of going bigger for flagship and smaller is mid-tier.

Love it!

The current SE dimensions are 123.8mm x 58.6mm x 7.6mm
The SE Mark II, if it is real, shows smaller dimensions of about 1.2% on all user-facing sides.

The thickness is an unknown, hopefully unchanged to render a bump-less back, as opposed to its brethren.

With a larger display on a smaller enclosure, one gets all the benefits of the original while preserving and improving one-handed use.

What is there not to like? Nothing, in my opinion.

This won’t happen but this is almost exactly the iPhone I want. I like my iPhone X but it’s too large. What I want is the iPhone X in the iPhone SE sized casing. In other words, a PREMIUM smaller-sized iPhone X. I don’t want a phablet and even the iPhone X is larger than I’d prefer. Apple: make three sizes of premium iPhones: 4” case, 4.8” case, and 5.5” case. Do that and a budget phone and you’re set.

Generally, when I see case makers that make renders like this, they almost are absolutely never a reality. Renders are just usually fan made art of what somebody _wants_ to see versus what will actually happen. Apple originally intended the iPhone SE as an affordable level entry iPhone intentionally. I don’t believe 2018 will be the year for an update for the SE, it very well could have been a one time offering.

I am disappointed by MacRumors, that now actually all obvious nonsense is printed. This makes MacRumors more ridiculous than interesting.

I read the article carefully, and the "arguments" (protector fake) and not dimensionally accurate CAD paintings are absolutely yesterday, silly and pathetic.

Please give this phone an under the screen finger print sensor and no faceID.
Thats exactly what im waiting for!

I think there are millions of people that switched from an iPhone 5/5s to an iPhone 6/6s and thought "well i like the bigger screen but i don't like the bigger phone".
This render of a new iPhone SE with borderless screen is exactly what all those people including myself are waiting for over four years.
And yes, this design is still the best apple has ever come up with.

Well, I’ve sceptical of this for several reasons, not least the fact that it has bezels so thin they make the X and rumoured X successors look rubbish, but if this WAS true I’d snap it up at three times the price!

What I loved about the SE (and why I ordered one immediately) was that it was not a compromised device. Yes, it had an earlier generation of Touch ID, but the chip and camera were the latest that Apple had at the time with the very attractive case of the 5/5s. What’s more, the smaller display made it somewhat faster than the 6s.

The fact that it was cheaper was a bonus, but I would have paid as much or more for the SE than the price of the 6s. If the next SE equivalent similarly features Apple’s newest tech, I’m all in.

Looks way better than an X. Someone tell Jony - that's how you make a phone 'disappear'. I would love this to be true and would probably upgrade from my SE if it is.

As a lot of people have pointed out, the SE is still a great phone. If they release one that looks the same with a slightly better processor literally no-one would notice in use. Got to have a reason to upgrade.

Apple's second-generation iPhone SE could feature an iPhone X-esque design with a notch, if a sketchy rumor is to be believed, but Face ID is unlikely.

MacRumors has obtained renders and alleged dimensions of the new iPhone SE from case maker Olixar, via online accessories store Mobile Fun, that suggest the device's notch will be approximately half as wide as the one on the iPhone X, almost certainly making it too slim to house facial recognition sensors.

Olixar's render of new iPhone SE with its screen protector

It's hard to imagine that Apple would include Face ID on the iPhone SE in the first place, without significantly raising the price. Including the feature on an iPhone that starts at just $349 would reduce Apple's gross margins and almost certainly cannibalize sales of the iPhone X at $999 and up.

Olixar's renders, which we're told were "obtained from a reliable source" in China, also suggest the new iPhone SE will feature an iPhone X-esque display that stretches nearly edge to edge, surrounded by an aluminum shell with flat sides and chamfered edges, akin to the current model and iPhone 5s.

With an alleged length of 4.7 inches and width of 2.1 inches, the new iPhone SE would be slightly smaller than the current model, remaining suitable for one-handed usage but with a larger display thanks to the fuller-screen design.

The renders do not depict the bottom or back of the device, so it's unclear if there will be a headphone jack or a glass rear shell for wireless charging. As expected, the device does appear to retain physical volume buttons and a mute switch on the side, and a physical power button on the top-right corner.

The biggest question mark is how authentication would work, given the lack of a home button and the unlikeliness of Face ID. Chinese company Vivo's new X20 Plus UD became the first smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor early this year, but Apple seems to have elected against that approach.

Overall, this rumor is a sketchy one, but Olixar is confident enough in its Chinese sources to already be accepting pre-orders for iPhone SE 2 screen protectors on Mobile Fun, so we are sharing in the interest of discussion.

Apple hasn't truly updated the iPhone SE since it launched in March 2016, beyond doubling its available storage capacities, but rumors about an updated model have been contradictory in recent months. There are essentially two camps: one expecting a more iPhone X-like design, and another expecting a minor refresh.

Last month, for example, a video shared on Chinese social media website Sina Weibo showed what appears to be an unreleased iPhone SE with an iPhone 5s-like design, glass back, top and bottom bezels, Touch ID, and a headphone jack. However, it's quite possible the device was a knockoff, as are common in China.

If there is a new iPhone SE, a few reports and regulatory filings suggest the device could be announced by WWDC 2018 in June.

Why would there be a notch without Face ID? Makes no sense at all.
Maybe Apple found a way to incorporate TouchId in a slit-like opening paving the way for iPhoneX-like, edge to edge display while using cost effective older tech to keep the SE's price down. Admittedly, that would however be quite inconsistent usage-wise, not to mention un-Apple-like, so your question remains.

Perhaps case maker Olixar is on the wrong track?

NOTCH!? THANK YOU for making the new SE so easy to pass up, Apple! #moneysaved

Has anyone sen just a straightforward poll of who would buy an iPhone X if there were no notch?

Upgraded camera sensors is a safe bet, but the question is just how much will they be upgraded?
I doubt they’d add a dual camera but if they did and still had a Touch ID, for me personally, that would be awesome.

Remove the notch and possibly have a perfect phone for me

My wife is desperate for a new phone since her iphone 4s is failing more and more. I'm on the 5s and curious to the what will happen with the form factor

Given that Ive is obviously fascinated by small intricate devices (i.e. mechanical watches) I really really hope that this enthusiasm (plus market demand) translates into this rumoured SE2.

I think it makes loads of sense for lots of reasons...

However if I had to make a bet, I suspect that we will in essence get a 7/8 in something that looks very much like the current SE, but hey we can all dream...

Notch or not, just give me an updated iPhone SE.

Apple, there are folks who just want a simple, yet powerful, small phone.
