UPDATE:

My case just broke, wtf?!?

On the rear plate at the top portion where the aluminum touches the black plastic piece... that part just completely separated. I can push it back together but it is totally not sturdy there.

Wow I can't believe this...

Still want to enjoy this case so I will ask for an exchange.

That is the same place where mine broke essentially out of the box, except mine was on the top portion. It seems that the plastic is not very strong at those points. Waiting on my replacement to come in just to at least try it on my phone.

My first case that I just returned wouldn't even go on my phone at all. As I put the top on to match up the two pieces it literally stapped at the plastic joint.

With every negative experience and flaw that's posted, I am not looking forward to receiving my case that's in transit :(
I thought my search for metal case was over

Received my grey Jett today.

The good news: Color/finish/design - all great. No tinge of green in mine - just a great gunmetal/pewter color, with high quality finishing all around. Very sleek and streamlined design with just enough lip for lay-on-table protection. Absolutely no problems with the plastic bits that others have complained about, notwithstanding that I put the case on and took it off approximately 30 times trying to solve the fitment issues described below.

The bad news: Volume rocker button would only work correctly if installed upside down, with the - on top and + on the bottom (uneven machining perhaps?). Sleep/wake button would depress the actual sleep/wake button and keep it depressed (i.e. it wouldn't pop back up), thereby rendering the button unusable (machined too thick perhaps?). Last, but obviously not least, I ran about half a dozen field tests and speed tests with and without the case, and the case unequivocally degraded the signal. Average signal strength dropped from -89 to -101 and download and upload speeds dropped by about 10-15%.

So this one's going back to Case-Mate. While I'm sure they would be able to sort out the fitment issues, I'm too frequently in marginal signal strength areas to able to live with the signal degradation.

All in all, I think it's actually a strong effort from Case-Mate. I haven't bought a case yet that had no fitment issues and didn't require either some modding or exchanges, so that's just par for the course. As for the reception, it didn't destroy my signal and if I were always in good service areas, I'd probably be ok with it. Also, I can't say I was really expecting anything else - it's an aluminum case and while I had a glimmer of a hope that a major mfr might have figured out a way to avoid the reception issues, I knew it was a long shot.

actually tried to put the sleep wake button on the case with no phone inside and it doesn't even fit. Sending it back tomorrow for a refund.

Just got my red one in today didn't have time to open it though before coming to work so I won't be able to try it till after 10pm :(

Hey folks, I received my grey Jett today. We've all seen the pics before, especially of this color, but I figured I'd post some unboxing and installation ones just for the kick of it. Here you go:

I purchased both the grey and red.

I'm surprised there is such a variance in fit on this board. Mine fit great as well as the buttons.

However, as people have mentioned...the signal is suspect.

I'll also try to post more as I use it. Have had it on all day today for the first time.

This EXACT SAME thing happened to me. I was able press the - volume button and actually decrease the volume. However, the constant pressure on the + volume button was so strong that no matter where I pressed on the case (even if it WASN'T on the volume rocker) the volume would shoot ALL THE WAY UP. I shot off an email to customer support. Hopefully I can get a replacement.

Here's a kicker for you though. Check out my speed tests.

I haven't made any calls on it yet. GPS is right on point tough.

Thanks for the unboxing pics karleaglemac.

Regarding the effect on reception, I think that most of us don't expect any effect on wifi. It's really the 3G "bars" that we are worried about. There is a way to get the bars to show numbers instead which can truly tell how much of a drop off the case causes.

If you have a JB iPhone, download "strength" from Cydia and it should give you the signal strength. I'm sure there are other ways, but I don't know how.

Once I get mine, I'll test the reception to see how much it's affected by the case.

ok have the jett case installed in red. Case fit is perfect. everything lines up. volume rockers are great fit and work fine, very responsive. silent switch works as intended very easy to get to. the button up top forget what is called is also very responsive and fits great. Very happy with my purchase especially for what I paid for it. Highly recommend this case. Also the case does effect my signal a little bit but I live in a strong signal area so I have yet to drop a phone call or anything.

Did you separate the front and back plates? I don't see how the sleep wake button cannot fit in between the pieces.

UPDATE:

Casemate handled my email about the broken case very quickly. They just wanted a picture and after that they shipped out a new case to me today.

I really like the customer service of this company, top notch.

I'm hoping the new case in Grey will have less greenish tinge to it. Also I did notice that in the areas where the aluminum contacts the black plastic, the plastic is VERY flimsy, so be careful when installing the case not to put any pressure on those areas. I think if this happens again on my new case, I'll just superglue the black part against the aluminum.

Just received my Jet case today. Had it installed on my phone in two minutes, no problem with reception , buttons, whatsoever. My only gripe is the gray has a little greenish tinge to it and the plastics where it connect to the aluminum feel a little bit cheap. But overall excellent case for the money.

I didn't make this clear in my post, but I ran all my tests with the wifi off for exactly this reason. Also, all you have to do on a non JB'd phone is enter field test mode and it will show signal strength numerically.

Just got my case in! Install was extremely easy. Quality seems to be pretty good, however, I did notice that the silence switch rattles a little. Other than that I like the case!

Oh, ok, that's good news then. Can you tell me how to enter field test mode? Mine is scheduled to be delivered today and I want to test it out. Thanks!

Received RMA number on Tuesday 12/14, sent the case back on the same day, and received a refund today 12/16. Case-Mate customer service is excellent. Too bad the case didn't work out.

1st Impressions?

LOVE IT!!!

I've used two other Aluminum cases (Elementy & Aluma) and this is a better case by a mile.

- No issues with Fit or Finish
- Buttons and switch are responsive and give positive feedback. When you press the buttons, you know you pressed the buttons
- Reception Good
- GPS Good
- Personal preference for me but I like the extra weight

Two negatives, you are pretty much stuck with using Apple's 30pin connector and I wish they had one in orange.

@xraytech I was starting to think I was the only one who is loving this case! One negative for me is the weight but it is aluminum so.... I'm testing reception on 3g and still no dropped calls. This is a keeper! May order the red before the 30% coupon expires! Hope I don't get any fitment issues like others have had with the red one! Great pics by the way!
