I put this in the other thread. I can't you believe you got the case on without breaking it as the plastic that holds the two pieces on the top portion are very flimsy.

Anyway...

Ok. Got my case this afternoon. Pictures will be below. I only have my phone as a camera so there is none with the case on but I couldn't get it on since it broke. More on that in a moment.

First off it is grey and not silver. Like a dark grey. The actual construction upon first impression is great. Feels solid and looks like an extension of the phone. Here's a bunch of the initial pictures before the bad thing happened.

Sorry the pictures are so big.

Ok, here's the issue, there are no instructions. The video makes it look simple so I followed the video. It's not. The black marks at the top and the side are actually very thin plastic grooves that slide the 2 pieces of the top half together. I didn't know that and they So guess what happened. One of them broke as I tried to snap the top and bottom together.

So while the metal portions, including the buttons are well made, the 2 small plastic clips the piece the 2 pieces of the top together are fragile as crap. Do not make the same mistake I did.

I believe you have to separate the top piece in order to get it to snap in right but I will have to wait until I get a replacement. Very disappointed in this case at it looked awesome.

I really don't understand how that happened, I took the case on and off twice already and no problems whatsoever. You have to put on the case a certain way according to the instructions.

Question, did you install the case face down or face up? I guessing you installed face up. I tried installing face up and I had the hardest time closing the two halves. So hard that it felt like the face half was bowing a bit. So I stopped and read the instruction. Followed the face down orientation and the two halves joined easily. I guess I lucked out failing on the 1st try.

INSTALL FACED DOWN!!!

Yep, mine was like that too. It broke as soon as I started to put it on. More than likely it was damaged either in shipping or in packaging.

Either way, 2 flimsy pieces of plastic holding the frame pieces in place is poor design. What's odd is they didn't go cheap anywhere else like the buttons or the actual screws.

So you did install face up.

Well the plastic bits are there to fix the reception issue. Which I have to say is actually doing a better job than other AL cases.

Actually I didn't. As I was putting the pieces together the whole thing below it came apart and my phone hit my counter. The piece that broke was the top though since it was being installed face down as shown in their video.

Before being condescending and adding zero to the conversation, you should look at the two pieces. There is plastic in both the top and the bottom halves.

Your case worked and was damage free. Great. Mine wasn't. When I called and talked to them, they even admitted as much and once I e-mailed everything they are exchanging it with zero questions asked. I already received a label and shipped it back.

How was I being condescending?!?

And I know both halves have plastic bits.

And I did add to the conversation saying that those plastic bit helped with the reception issue inherent with AL cases.

Before this becomes a heated screaming match, too late, I'm just going to leave it at that.

Condescending in assuming that because the plastic broke, you immediately assumed it was installed incorrectly trying to prove you are smarter or better than others. You said the exact same thing word for word to the other person whose plastic was broken too thus adding zero to the conversation.

In any event, the plastic is obviously the weak point in this case as there have been a few others that have issues with it, not to mention that the case has scratched the plastic around the screen on a few folks device.

Personally, I still like the way it looks as I am getting mine exchanged and not just refunded outright. I think the case will be functional but as the person I talked to admitted, there was obviously an issue with the case I received. This means there have been other complaints to them about the plastic pieces as well.

I'll update impressions when I get my replacement. Even still, the flimsy plastic pieces are still a bad idea.

INSTALL FACED DOWN!!!
Well u guessed wrong, of course I installed it face down according to the instructions, I don't understand why u think I would ignore the manufacturer recommended guide and just invent my own installation guide?

Just an update on my experiences so far.

I think the antenna is effected. Most of the time I don't notice a difference. My house is a notorious dead zone but had only one drop with the case on. I routinely drop with it off regardless.
However, I was recently at the House of Blues for a party. My friend seemed to have more "bars" than my IP4 with the case on.

I just took the case off after about a week with it on. I don't see any scratches on the plastic nor frame from what I can see but will keep updating the thread.

I have the red and gray and put the red on the front and grey on the back. LOOKS GREAT!

I also like the button add ons. It makes it super simple to hit the buttons without resorting to turning the phone to look at it and using your finger nail to get to recessed buttons.

The one thing I just noticed TODAY was that I was getting some play in the case. That is, if you hold the case, the phone will jiggle a bit up and down on the bottom part (closer to the home button), versus, toward the top where it is very snug by the phone jack.

Plan to send a quick inquiry to case mate CS.

Hmm thats interesting, mine doesn't do that, it could be the pieces you got, do some trial and error and see which piece is making the fault, its likely one of the foam pieces on the inside.

As far as the installation process, I've been installing face up since I got this case about a week ago without any problems, however, today I installed it face down and find it much easier. The way all the clips are and the design of the case, I think its made to be installed face down.

By the way I got the green color in the mail the other day, I'm currently using the green/gray colors, will post photos later.

Also another thing I thought about, this case is 50 for each color, so spending for 2 colors = 100. Almost like buying any other aluminum case which comes made with 2 colors for most companies.
Although I find the more that I use this case, and have done tons of tests as I take out my phone and change the colors around all the time and find that the signal is unaffected, and if affected, isn't noticeable where I live in Vegas.

Please get some pics of the green up if you can. That would be awesome. Thanks.

@meltdown great pics once again. hmmm red or green, can't decide now ;)

Can anyone comment as to how large the cutout for the headphone jack is. I have one set of headphones that I occasionally use which has a bit thicker plug than the general 3.5mm jack.

Thanks.

just got mines, and i got to say..im a bit disappointed. install went well, but while putting the phone in the case it felt like i was scratching the phone. i have the invisible shield sides and it marked it up pretty good. also what some of you guy were talking about, it was scratching up the bezel of the glass (the plastic between the antenna and the glass). it might just be my case cause in the video the iphone drops in the case easily.

Any pics on the scratching? And know how it's scratching it up? Rough edges on the inside of the case?

It seems to me that the case has a very tight fit (tolerance). If you line the outside of the phone with anything like invisible shield of course the fit will be to tight causing scratching.

yeah true, but people seem to make the case work with lucky labs films in their sides as i read a few pages back..so y wouldnt it work with my invisible shield.

invisible shield is significantly thicker than the Lucky Labs Spectra Wrap. Those wraps are very very thin.

I doubt this case will work with the transparent lucky labs either since they are a little thicker than the standard.

...

When I have both the grey pieces on...it's pretty snug.
Both red pieces...I get play in the case.
Red front, grey back. Play in the case.

Haven't tried red back grey front yet. But it's pointing to the red front.

Still like this case a lot. Waiting to see if CS has a suggestion. They responded pretty fast to my email.
