unbreakable and unscratchable phones... while still being premium devices.
why does this sounds like it should have been done already??
primitive technology :(

A quote from the piece on Apple from 60 minutes:

Ive explained that zeroing in on a product's "emotional context" is a big part of Apple's development process—investing lots of time experimenting with materials, surfaces, textures, colors, shapes, to arrive at the right tactile experience. He showed the 10 prototypes for the iPhone 6 and 6s that had been made with their in-house machining tools, before landing on the two sizes that "felt right."

Seems a shame that we put cases on our iPhones when all this time is spent to make them feel right huh?

We kill them with plastic and blocky rubber cases.
Yes ,I could't agree any more

Swipes work fine with my Fre case. That is the only way I access the multi-tasking screen.

You don't access the multi-tasking screen with a swipe though? The access it by pressing hard on the left hand side or double tapping the home button...

I can easily do those swipes with the original cases made by Apple.

Agreed. We have these ridiculously powerful devices but neither the battery life nor the durability of phones have really improved since 2007.

And before you say "batteries are so much better now" remember that the battery technology is essentially the same, but the software around the battery has generally improved.

You access the apps in the stack by swiping right after pressing on the left side of the screen and it all works fine in the Fre case.. No need for the double tapping.

It's not as easy as without the case though, and neither is it as nice, you have to touch the silly overlapping lip to do a swipe from off-screen in.

What?? This isn't even remotely the interaction I was talking about. I said swiping inwards from OFF screen. Once you've forced pressed on the left (which again isn't the interaction I was talking about) you can swipe left or right to cycle the apps ANYWHERE in the screen, there's not an edge swipe gesture anywhere in this.

The issue is that Apple made the 6/6S so damn slippery to begin with. Also metal is very cold to the touch during the winter in cold regions.

I wish Apple would focus on making the exterior of the backplate actually comfortable and grippy to begin with. Go look at the Nexus 5 or certain configurations of the Moto X Pure and you'll see this is easily done.

OK, I will just shut up because I have no idea what you are talking about.

As a person who insisted to always use all her iPhones - starting from the iPhone 2G up to the iPhone 6 Plus - without a case and without ever breaking a single screen, I'd like to share my opinion...

My iPhone 6s Plus is the first phone I put a case on (the original Apple silicone case) from the first moment I took it out of its box.
I decided to get the case, because I remembered the fact that on my previous Plus, the back became even more slippery than it originally was, throughout the months of using it, because of the oil on my skin. I surely gotten used to being EXTREMELY cautious and alert at all times -and I mean ALL times - but it was the first time I felt quite bothered by this.

When I first bought the 6s Plus and put the case on it, I was not positive at all. I really hated the added bulk and that I could not feel the curved edges of my device.
But at the same time, I felt relieved, because I suddenly didn't have to be so careful with my phone, for the first time in 8 years!

After a while, I got extremely used to having the case on the phone and I did become more careless, because I didn't have to take so much care of the phone anymore, the case did the job for me!
I have already dropped it once, and had to replace the case because it had a huge bump in one of its corners. I won't say that if I did not have the case, my screen would now be cracked, because as I said, I stopped being so paranoid and careful, now that I have the case on.

So, now that it's been two months that I've had this phone with a case on it, I believe that the extra security that a case adds is much, much more important than a phone's aesthetics, for people who are really paranoid about keeping their phones in pristine condition.

I'm sure I will never go without a case anymore and I never thought I'd say this!

I went "caseless" this time around for my 6s. Instead of a case, I use the Sena leather pouch that also houses my ID and credit card, etc. I find that this way, my phone is protected when in my pocket or when not in use. When I do need to use it or if I'm just sitting at my desk or on the couch, it can stay outside the pouch in it's full glory. Been working just fine so far and not a single surface scratch or issue with it. Most notifications, I can see and reply on my Apple Watch too without having to remove the phone from my pocket.

Have 6S since launch naked. No scratches or dents.

I'm just careful. Same goes with my last iPhone 5s for 2 years.

Though, I have a carbon fiber wrap and screen protector. (I like the feel)

If my old iPhone 6 and my current iPhone 6S Plus had nice flat grippy edges like my old iPhone 4 and 5S did I wouldn't have to use an Apple leather case.

Yes, it does kill my experience of fear of dropping it every time it slips a bit when i adjusted my grip to reach the upper left edge of the phone before my case arrived. Thank you case, for killing that experience.

DBrand skin arrived a week ago and I have been going caseless ever since. Adds some much-needed grip and man have I missed that thin and sleek form factor of my 6S+.

I finally ended getting an Apple leather case (blue) after dropping my 6 Plus over and over and I have to say it feels even better. It not only adds grip but warmth. It feels great to hold and I usually hate cases.

This is a debate that will never end, lol.

It's all personal preference. I keep a nondescript case and screen protector on my phone because I want a better grip and some defense against drops and scratches.

i really think this is a hunk of bs coming straight from apple's marketing team.

experimenting with materials, surfaces, textures and shapes? bull. they literally took one of the most slipperiest surfaces, combined with an awful shape (round) and made it into a phone. the phone is almost unusable without a case, ALMOST.

i never used a case, and i never smashed my iPhone. and i had most of them (except 4S, 5S). when my 6 plus arrived last year i was very disappointed but then i got the leather case and i was okay.
