You paid top dollar for insurance for something which a $10 case would have negated and you wouldn't even have to bother with the hassle of getting a replacement

A $10 case would not necessarily have prevented the phone breaking, and you know that's true. I know you wouldn't spend as little as $10, either, as your phone may as well be wrapped in bubblewrap given how many different layers you said are covering it. And getting the replacement wasn't even a hassle. All I did was fill out a form online and I received the replacement the very next day.

A $10 case would definitely, however, have made my phone much uglier as far as I'm concerned. So thanks for your congratulations--it was, indeed, smart of me to forego the ugly, cheap case.

As far as I'm concerned, my money was well spent on insurance because I didn't have to carry around an ugly phone and I easily got a replacement. Again, thank you for your congratulations. Things did work out well for me.

Just because you don't have peace of mind when not using a case doesn't mean that others don't.

It seems they don't have or haven't ever heard about car insurance or house insurance. I personally didn't buy insurrance just because i might drop the phone on the floor. It covers theft, water damage, or if lose it somewhere. It doesn't cost much anyway and when i checked how much i spend of things like coffee i just decided to cut on coffee and get insurrance.

Just factor in how much a good case (not that thin 0.3 mm crap or similar crap which will not really protect your phone) cost and good quality glass screen protector (not that crap for 99 cents on ebay) cost.

LOL!!!!! The assumptions and hyperbole are strong in this one......
I've got car insurance and house insurance. Also have Apple Care Plus. I get it in case something catastrophic happens around the horses, dogs, or kids.

I prefer not going through the hassle of putting in a claim or be without a phone until a replacement arrives. I also prefer putting on a new Symmetry case that I'll use throughout the year and glass protector than pay the 99 buck service fee.

Besides,, I LIKE getting cases. Kate Spade and Sonix have cases I like for regular days. I like different colours, they're almost like fashion accessories for my phone. HA! I use Symmetry or Speck when I'm training or riding. That's when there is an increased chance of accidents. (Newsflash, I also have several bags and shoes and earrings and rings......they change up things. That's fun. I like them. So I get them.)

I have insurance in case my phone drops out of my pocket and a horse steps on it. Or I drop it on concrete during training. The rest? I can avoid with a case.

You guys do what you like. I do what I like. Just don't go making assumptions like oooooooo they never heard of insurance - m'kay?

So why the case? So you spend on cases, protectors and insurance. That makes sense only in 11th dimension.

Because I LIKE them. I LIKE Kate Spade and Sonix cases.
And I CAN and I CHOOSE to spend my money on things I like.

If a 40 buck case is going to be a financial hardship I've got other problems.

In times like these i lose all hope in humanity. /facepalm

In times like these I realise how much I dislike not only hyperbole, but also judgmental and arrogant people. /facepalm
I hope you're not pretending to be surprised.

It is, after all, what people do. Especially when there's no accountability.

I use a leather flip case and screen protector on my 6S. I didn't get AC+ because you have to pretty much destroy the phone twice to make it worth the £129 cost vs the price of a screen replacement which is going to be the most likely repair. It doesn't bother me in the slightest is people know I'm using an iphone and I've always been anal about keeping my devices in the best condition possible. I won't be upgrading until at least the 7S and you get far better resale value from a phone in perfect condition compared to a phone that's scratched and scuffed up.

I had a iPhone 5 before the 6S and it was always kept in a case with a screen protector. It was in pretty much perfect condition when I sold it. I got £150 for it about a week before the 6S came out. The person who bought it from me said they had looked at other iphone 5's before mine and had been put off by the condition.

Nope. Not surprised. Disgusted that people would pass judgement on others' personal preferences, particularly when that someone has said "you do your thing and I'll do mine."
BUT then again, when the use of a case and screen protector on a phone has been compared to rape, anything can happen.

Well.... I've put the Apple leather slim case back on my 6S Plus....

And it's mostly just because of watching this thread. :)

I just love the design of the 6S and 6S Plus, however, and I lament that we have to think about cases because they're just so very neat to operate just the way that they were designed. Every case that I've ever seen causes the operation to be less naturally effective.

Maybe with the iPhone 7 and iPhone Mini, they'll give us a basically different design that gives us a more secure purchase, so that we're not so paranoid about dropping them all of the time.

I can't pretend to know how they would do this. Everybody else's design that allows for a less slippery grasp is also a design that simply doesn't look as good or feel as good in the operation as the iPhones looks and feels.

Always love a caseless iphone.

Having said that, I do tend to keep my iphone 6s plus in an urban armor gear case. Broke my 6 plus last year and don't want to repeat that.

But for special occasions I tend to forget my UAG at Home. ;)

I was in the "It's too pretty to put a case on it" camp until the iPhone 4. The damned thing was made of glass. I put a bumper on it. I've had an inexpensive case on my phone ever since, mostly for the ability to stash a $20 behind my phone in case I forget my wallet.

I know this is a forum to discuss topics, but it's funny how people get extremely defensive if random internet strangers do not agree with their opinion. o_O Insecurity issues I guess.

Personally I've been happy with the Apple silicone case on my iPhone 6s Plus. Without the case it's too easy to slide out of my front pants pocket (work slacks). Plus extra overall grip helps in day to day use. I like the midnight blue with space gray/black iPhone combo. Red silicone looks nice with black too.

"To each his own."
It's the hallmark of this forum. The, "My opinion is correct, yours is wrong", syndrome.
The amount of energy people spend to tell you they are right is simply amazing.

With the size of the 6+ (going from a 5s), the phone is out of my pockets more and more likely to be spilled on / knocked around / etc. So, when I'm out of the house, I use an Otterbox Symmetry, which is a medium-sized, one piece case. At this point, I'm using the device for work / checking messages, etc. The experience doesn't matter as much.

At home, I take that baby off (takes 2 seconds) and enjoy the slimness and full design of the device. I actually like the design so much, I like to just hold it even if I'm not using it. It has a good fidget factor.

The 6+ also gets pretty hot sometimes, primarily when using Periscope (watching, not broadcasting). I've had to put the case on after a while because it was uncomfortable.

My forum post got featured on the MacRumors Twitter feed! Thanks everyone!

ANY plastic case offers protection significantly better than naked

I use the Apple leather case on my 6S+ only because I kept switching the ringer switch off. On my 5S it was recessed so I could go naked, here I needed something to keep from moving the switch inadvertently. I would be naked if the switch was recessed like the 5S was.

The 5S's switch isn't recessed - it still pokes out just a bit so you can use your finger to switch it up and down. I'm typing this on my 5S.

Ok, but the 6S+ sticks out much more and it very easy to switch off just putting in pocket.
