I'm selling my 3G to offset the price of buying the 3G S. Most likely, I'll go with eBay, but to be sure, I'm curious if anybody has heard anything about this site. They estimate they'll give me $315 for my phone, which is alright, although I've seen used 16GB ones go for $450 on eBay. They say they will send a box, I send the phone, and then I get a check. It seems like it's shady, but if anybody here can say they're legit, I might try it out. And yes, I did search around Google before posting this and I didn't really find much.

Hey,

I'm in the same boat, I posted a while ago looking for an answer as well but so far everyone seems quiet about it. My guess is most people have had the best success on ebay/craigslist which is what I will probably end up doing once I get my 3GS

If the name "cashforiphones" didn't sound shady enough, then surely that stuff I bolded has to sound somewhat off, right?

I would go the eBay route or something more protected personally.

I wouldnt say that it's shady at all...I sent in a few old Dell/Gateway laptops to cashforlaptops.com (which also runs cashforiphones.com) and they sent me all the boxes, paid for shipping, and sent me a check in less than a week.

meh.

For every success story, 5 schmoes get jacked.

I dunno .... *I* don't like to tempt fate myself, but I'm sure some people get free stuff from these dudes.

Definitely go through eBay, thats probably your best option, and you never know how much money you'll get ;)

does cashforiphones and cashforlaptops also run cashforgold.com? because they have tv commercials, and thus must be legit ;)

They are going to say that they'll give you as much as $315 before you send the phone, then once they get the phone from you they'll offer you something substantially lower hoping that instead of going through the hassle of requesting your phone back from them, you'll just tell them that number is fine. Then they'll turn around and sell it on ebay for twice as much. It's the same as cash4gold that someone mentioned. So while it's not a complete scam , you will get money from them, but they are going to lowball the **** out of you.

Yeah cashforgold.com lowballs you on gold. They send you money but at a fraction of the worth. This cashforiphone.com probably does the same exact thing.

nope

Nope don't trust that site. Why don't you go to BuyMyTronics.com instead. (I hope posting links is all right) They seem much MUCH more reliable.

Any one try www.cashforiphones.com...???

HI!

I try to sell my 1st generation 16GB iPhone and get a new 32GB iPhone 3GS.
I am not familiar with ebay or craglist.

I was reading TUAW and come across this web site that they mention.
For my iPhone (In a very good condition, wrap with the screen protector with a case since day one), they can pay $210.00.

All I need to pay is about $ 89.00 myself.

Has anyone try them before? Are they reliable?

thanks

Henry

I was wondering this as well. I read on their site that they pay for next day shipping and you get paid the next day. It's worth it to me to sacrifice a little money to bypass the bigger hassle of ebay.

Wait you pay 89.00 and then they pay you 210? This is def. not a scam.

I still have the 8gb 2g and I got offered 155USD so I think I will just go ahead and try it. I could sell it on ebay for around 200USD maybe? but with the new PayPal tos I have to wait at least 2 weeks to actually get the funds into my account as I never use ebay. If this thread is still open, I'll let you know how it goes..

Actually, I checked the same web site and they pay for my 1st gen 16GB iPhone for $ 232.00 and just today, it is $ 210.00

I guess the rate changed from time to time.

Anyway, as long as I can get around $ 200.00.
I am happy.

Now, I only wish that cashforiphone is as reputable as they mentioned.

Otherwise, we should let TUAW know not to put their web site information for their viewer.
