Ok so I sent my brand new iPhone into cashforiphones. I got a replacement phone from Apple for a cracked case. The phone was tested by the apple genius before I left the store. I simply took the SIM out and mailed the phone in right away, same day. I was quoted at $460 from cashforiphones. They called me after more then a week and offered me $160. I was totally shocked and asked why. They said it was in recovery mode, which I know it wasn't when I sent it in. I told them to simply plug it in and take it out of recovery mode and they refused. So I told them I would do it and send it back to them and they told me they couldn't take the phone back again. I decided to just have them send it back to me. This whole process has taken forever and tied my phone up and now I will get much less by the time I get it back. Totally ridiculous. Never use this site. If you are wondering if they are legit just call the number on their website and you will find out there is no way to get a person to talk to. It's not even an option. I basically went without a good phone for the last few weeks and lost money by having my phone tied up. I'm hoping they actually mail it back to me like they said they did. So far I have gotten nothing. So mad right now!

UPDATE!:

I received a very nice phone call (as did my significant other) with regard to the price they were going to offer. They offered us both 300.00 on each of our phones (original quote was 400.00). Considering right now they are going on their website for 230.00 i think that was a pretty fair trade. So assuming this check makes it to us, which I believe it will, I think i will have to say at least for now the experience was satisfactory. I'll provide an update when the check is received.

Not sure why you think this is satisfactory. They quoted you $400 -- unless you described the iPhone inaccurately, they owe you $400.

This is the same thing they pulled on me last year. Quoted me $420 on my 3G; when I sent it in, they emailed and offered $250 because "market conditions had changed."

Well, I raised holy h*ll. Of course market conditions changed! That's why I was smart enough to request my quote early, and it was supposed to be locked in. The reps admitted that the condition was as-described; they just wanted to pay me less because they now had a glut of 3Gs. As I told them, that wasn't my problem; it was theirs.

I threatened to blog repeatedly about their unethical practices, post here and on Apple's Discussion boards, contact David Pogue at the NYTimes, etc., etc. They eventually relented and sent me a check for the full $420.

But I will NEVER use them again. They are crooks.

I implore you, people -- if a company makes you a promise that they don't honor, don't let them get away with it! I know it's often easier to say, "Well, $300 is pretty good." But if they promised you $400, and you held up your end of the deal, they should hold up theirs.

The fact that people accept $300 when they're owed $400 encourages these sleazeballs to continue pulling this crap. DON'T DO IT!

I'm satisfied but not ecstatic by any means. I'm just glad I didnt get totally ripped off which didnt happen. I think they quote high on their site to compete with others. I'll mention this as one thing to watch out for.

The thing about E-bay is they sack you with fee's, sure you can make up for it in shipping but still it all comes out in the end. I sold my old macbook pro on there before I upgraded and with all the fee's i definitely was not satisfied with the deal.

Craigslist is a good forum to sell in if your careful, but there are alot of scams out there probably more now that the new iphone was just on pre-order, there will be more to sort through.

i guess the entire event (selling your iphone) is a effort in managing expectations. The vendor (who is taking your iphone) is expecting to make money on the deal in some way, you on the other hand want to get a good quote. Sure, I would have rather had the 400.00 but all things considered I'm satisfied with what i got. Now if we had gone to 200.00 then that would have been an issue and would have raised serious red flags to me. If you want to dump a piece of hardware (laptop, phone, etc) i dont think (so far) they are all that horrible however each may have a different experience and from the reports looks like some do.

On that note, I'm sure all have seen those selling iphone 4's for 5k on ebay...that's just crazy.

Again, from all of the feedback from others who have used both cashforiphones.com, as well as your own cashforiphones.com is clearly FAR from satisfactory.

Please include the full story so your readers can get an accurate picture. Quoting you $400 and giving you $300 is dishonest and classic bait and switch. You were quoted $400, based on the condition and time of the QUOTE. Based on this value, you agreed and went without your phone for a week. Your phone was agreed to be in the condition you stated, why shouldn't they keep their end of the deal?? They have the upper hand by holding your phone hostage. To give you the value based on "current" phones is ridiculous. You didn't send the phone TODAY, and you shouldn't be quoted or even 'met halfway' accordingly. $400 is $400. I understand you are satisfied with the $300, but I'm discussing based on the principle.

I sincerely hope they go out of business, and refusing to do business with these people who use dishonest and childish business practices is the first step to sending them on their way.

got a point

some certainly upset customers to be sure, I'm sorry that this stuff had to happen to you all. i can see where you were led astray by the quote. Me personally, i was fine essentially because i didnt want to hassle with anyone and when I compared what I got to other sites, it was comparable. However, Given enough time, I would prefer to go elsewhere to obtain a larger amount. I honestly wish I had checked this site before i shot our phones off there. I've used Gazelle, was very satisified but the higher quotes on the other site definitely attracted me. I was also aware it was possible that the iphone values would fluctuate as the pre-order date came. I actually had been checking the site for 3 weeks prior to the date, when they dropped the quote to 400.00 (from 485.00) i felt the time was right to fire it off. Both phones were in perfect condition when they left here, they had just come out of otterbox defenders where they had been for almost a year.

if those who had major issues with these folks shoot me a quick blurb of what happened and what the resolution ways (via PM) i would appreciate it I'm really curious as it seems like many have gone through some extreme hoops to get resolution.

regards,

J

They were offering $145 for my 16 GB 3g phone. I can get double that if I sell it on eBay or craigslist. Most people that buy them, jailbreak them, and ship them to some other country like India or something.

Got $325 for my 3GS 32GB on CL, we conducted the transaction on Best Buy's Parking lot. Same day sale as listing.

I was aiming for $375, but no one bid, so I lowered to $325 and sale!

I'm using Gazelle as well

I'm not happy with Gazelle. I sent them my 16GB iPhone 3G, which clearly met their definition for 'good' condition and they replied back that it was 'poor'. It seems like they use the subjective condition rating to back out of deals.

cashforiphone.com does a bait and switch

I was going to keep my old iPhone 3G but when I went to www.cashforlaptops.com (which is also www.cashforiphones.com) I was offered $120 for my iPhone.

So a great offer and they immediately sent the easy-to-send shipping materials. What a great win-win service, I thought. I also received emails updates.

A week later I got an email saying that they would offer me $58 for my iPhone, less than half of what they promised (assuming it was in the condition I claimed it was in, which it was). The kicker is that there was no explanation in the email or when I logged into their website as to the rationale for the dramatic price drop. The phone and battery were in great shape. I had even charged the battery and restored the updated system software to be nice. It was working perfectly.

So it was clearly a bait and switch. They bait you with the high offer (outbidding their competitors) and then lower the offer and ignore your protestations. This is the very definition of a scam.

I sent an email asking for an explanation and after ten days I still have received no response. I read online that calling them on the phone is pointless and a huge hassle so after the ten days I accepted the $58, which is what they want people to do. Obviously I would not use this service again. It is a scam. It's too bad too because it could be a great service for people on both ends and the environment.

I used flipswap to trade in my wife's 3G (she got my 3GS) with great success. They quoted me $165 after the iPhone 4 was announced, and I had 30 days to send it in, so I accepted their offer and waited until I got my iPhone 4 on launch day to send the 3G in. It took almost a month to get the money, but I got the full amount. To be fair to them, it almost took me a month to send it in!

Caigslist????

Agreed. I would try and sell it locally through Craigslist.

Yes Craigslist is the best way to go because there are no shady characters on that site. Also, when you conduct a tranaction, most likely these safe and unshady characters will now have your phone number and home address. Yes, Yes, much better than having a random company send you a box and a free shipping label. Your post was from 2007...hope you haven't been hacked up by some craigslister. :D

Horrible company!!! I've been trying to get my phone back from them for over 2 weeks after waiting for one week to hear back from them. They quoted me $175 and.now that they have my phone they offered me $70. Now, they don't answer my emails and I've left countless messages on Audra's voicemail. I'll be using the next 1.5 months before I start my judicial clerkship to report them to Nevada's Attorney General and to the authorities for theft if I don't get back my phone. They obviously lowball and then try to frustrate their customer into giving in by ignoring requests to send the phone back. I wonder how many people have been swindled by this company.

Cashforiphones Ripoff

I did business with these people once and they made a quote then came back with a stupid price. I don't remember that much but my 3GS is fresh in my mind. I sent them the original box, original cables, they said 240 if it was in good shape. Good!, it was immaculate. Always zagged screen, cases always, never worn on my belt. It was new! Then even tho I had a nice jailbreak on it I restored it to showroom, they offered 100. Send my phone back! How desperate do they think I am?

This is what happens when people are too lazy to sell phones on their own. Ever heard of ebay or craigslist?

Cashforiphones.com underpay their original quote.

I do not recommend using them. It's like dealing with a politician. They talk the talk but don't follow through with the promise. I used cashforiphone in July 2011. I followed all the instructions on the website. Every step occurred as stated on cashforiphone.com until I got confirmation they received my White Iphone 3G 16GB. I was quoted $165 for as good as new, working condition iphone. I waited two weeks after they received my phone to call and find out the status of my payout. I received no contact from the company prior to my call. Per their representative, the phone was NOT worth $165 but $60 because it had no power cord and they found "fanthom" scratches on the screen. When I refused and requested my phone returned, they up the quote to $100. I felt ripped off but also scared they would not have returned my phone to me so I accepted quote feeling like I had no choice. I gave them everything the phone came with except the power cord ($3 to replace). Scratches on the screen could not be possible because protective skins and covers were placed on the phone moments after receiving it and only removed just before sending my iphone to Cashforiphones. I never dropped it, knocked it, or abused it in any way. My iphone was pristine and in full working order. I have pictures to prove it. I know white is still a popular choice (no fingerprints), so I know Cashforiphones downgraded the original quote greatly for no good reason. I lost $65 from the original deal with no justification. Legit? As trusted as a politician is loyal to contributors in election year while ignoring the interest of the voters. :(

cashforiphone.com is a ripoff

This company has an advertisement in google search to buy your iphone 4. It looks like it was a legitimate site so I tried it out. I told them what type of phone I had and the specs and condition of the iphone 4 and they gave me a quote. I mailed the iphone to them and they received the iphone4. They call me to negotiate the price and right then I new something was not right. They tell me now that the iphone 4 is not worth what they offered me. My iphone 4 was in excellent condition, I had it in a case and had a screen protector on it and sent it back with all the accessories and original box. They went down $100.00 less what they had original offered me. They did not even want to negotiate at all since now they my phone, when I said return my phone they told me it will take 3 to 4 weeks to get back. So I gave in and accepted what they offered because they already had my phone. Do not trust these people they are out to get over on you. I hope I get the money they did offered me. Beware !!!!!!

Do not use CashforiPhones

I'm going to add to the noise.

CashforiPhones quoted me $294. That was the best deal of all the sites and all it wanted to know was which model of phone I had and if it worked. Didn't ask about scratches or condition. Said, "We can give you $294!" and I thought, Great!

I get the call today from their "representative" who is probably the guy that runs the show out of his own house. Anyway, he said his "micro technicians" said there were scratches on the iPhones front and back glass and would need to be replaced. He offered $137. The front had NO scratches, the back had one visible scratch. He wouldn't even pin point where the scratches are and wouldn't let me talk to the "micro technicians" about the condition of the phone. My phone was just a year old, in pristine condition. I have pictures.

He then tried to negotiate a price where we would both be "happy." I went to $250 when in my head, the only happy price is $294, my original quote. He went up to $225! Whoopie! Right? No. I wasn't going to have any of his BS. He said he could give me $225 in a check and send out the check today, but if I wanted the phone back, it would be 3 weeks. And he mentioned how my phone's value would be lowered and how it would be a hassle for me to sell it on eBay or craigslist. He basically threatened me to take his deal or he'd hold my phone.

Now I'm scared he's going to put extra scratches on the phone to spite me!

Anyway. That's my story with this shady company.

Nope, they are NOT LEGIT.

I got quoted for $294 for my iPhone 4 and got a call today saying I'd only get $137. They said my phone had scratches and both front and back glass panels needed to be replaced.

I said, "fine, I'll take my phone back," and the scare tactics to get me to take the offer started. First off, my phone is in pristine condition. I wasn't going to take any BS. The guy then says it'll take 3 weeks for them to process the return or I can take the check now. He even tried to negotiate a "fair price" for the phone! I said $294 was a fair price and he would not take it. Most he came up to was $225 and I could tell he was furious that I wouldn't succumb to his threat of holding on to my phone for 3 weeks and then having to sign for the delivery whenever he got around to shipping my phone back 3 weeks later and how he'd write in my file that I'm turning down his generous offer of $225.

Yeah. Now I'm just praying he doesn't take sandpaper to my iPhone. I already have the 4S! I just need to sell off my 4! Ugh.

cashforiphones.com Scam Artist - Classic Bait & Switch

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

I sold two iPhone 3G's to this company because they offered much more than any other company for used iPhone 3Gs. They offered $149 each for our two phones. These phones were in PERFECT condition and not a scratch on the glass or the bodies. They had been in cases since we purchased them new and always had a protective cover on them.

Upon receipt of the pre-paid boxes we shipped via UPS and then received an offer from the company for $60...no where near the $149 they originally said they were worth. They said it was because the earphone and power connection were "functional yet cracked." When I said that I wanted them to mail the items back they said it could take 4-6 weeks to process the return. Reluctantly, I was tired of dealing with this worthless POS company and accepted their offer.

There was absolutely NOTHING WRONG with those iPhones. I regret doing business with that company. For that price I could have used them as iPod Touches for my two children. Instead, I fought with a company that is using tactics that get the consumer to mail in their products only to be forced to take their ridiculously low offer.

Please do not make the same mistake and use this company. There are other companies that have gotten better reviews and provide a much better price for used electronic devices.

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Scam deluxe

They give you an expectation. Then when you send in your phone they tell you a totally different "value". They already have your phone. So what are you to do? They quotes me $185 for my phone, which was pristine. When they called they said it had scratches on the back. As my phone had always been in a case, from day 1, I find that very unlikely. They reduced the "value" to $80. Expensive back that. $100 for a plastic back, which I'll say again was pristine. I've used them once. I won't use them twice.

I suggest to you STAY AWAY
