Does anyone know if Radio Shack will be selling the new iPhone ? They are offering $176 (gift card) for an iPhone 3G with charger. That's pretty decent though I could probably get more. Though If I'm going the HTC Evo route, that pretty much pays for the phone (because Radio Shack will be selling the EVO).

I sold my 3G to them for 250 or so last year, I had no issues whatsoever other than it taking a while to get the cash (like 2 or 3 weeks).
I just checked them out again to sell my 3Gs and they are quoting $400 for one with no defects. I just returned mine to Apple 2 weeks ago and it barely has a mark on it. Ill definitely be selling to them this year. Much easier than worrying about an auction on ebay or having some freak show up at my house through CL.

thats a hasslefree way to go...but id try to put it on craigslist first just to see if anyone buys it for more

Check local stores that buy phones too. allot of them advertise on craigs etc . We buy phones I contacted a few of them. told them my highest on line quote. asked him to match plus throw in a basic smart phone. Local trade done easy no hassle no worries. we are doing $385 plus a decent spare phone. I think that's fair enough 32 gb 3gs! all the extras

cashforiphones

i know this thread has been dead for awhile but for the release of the new iphone i'm opening it up:

i've tried cashforiphones in the past, I got good results (well, forgot to send a cable and they docked me for it) in any case here's what's up:

my wife and i both write for a local paper, actually a series of them under pseudonyms. We write tech articles and are doing a piece on the IPHONE 4. We just were lucky enough to get ahold of two of them during the pre-order phase yesterday, with much pain like everyone else.

in anycase, as part of our story we are going to be writing about how to get rid of your old iphone and hope to mentioned cashforiphone's as one of the options. I personally have had a decent experience although i know some who have not. i want to give an honest review of this company, i hope to spread the word (good or bad) about our experiences with the world.

Regards,

Josh

We have both offered up our 3GS 32-GB iphones and were offered a quote of 400.00 for each. Both were shipped immediately upon receiving the boxes to the company in their original packaging. The company does send a box and a pre-paid slip (UPS) however does not include packaging material (such as tape, bubble wrap, etc)

i will keep the blogosphere informed!

I used nextworth last year, and it worked well. They also have a much better rating from the BBB than cashforiphones. You can check all these sites out at the BBB, you just enter the web address and it'll tell you the rating. This year, I'm using flipswap.com which has a pretty good rating as well.

Scam

I had a very bad experience using it where they quoted me then tried to say they would only give me half. When I asked to send it back, they refused.

I eventually worked out a deal with them but it still was not for what they quoted and I had to threaten several things to get them to up the price.

as promised a follow up: Sent my iphone 3gs 32gb last week to them, shipped the day after i received their packaging. It was in pristine condition.

They received it on the 16th and according to their website should have released funds within 24 hours. i contacted them today via phone for the status, they said would call me if not today by monday at the least. I asked why the call, shouldn't a check be mailed? the lady mentioned by law they have to call first, i'm assuming this it to negotiate the price they will give. They quoted me 400.00 for the 3gs 32gb originally.

So right now I'm still waiting for "the call", i'm not getting a good feeling about this but I do realize they probably got sacked with a lot of iphones due to the iphone 4 pre-order so i'll give them the benefit of the doubt here.

Be advised i'm running this as an experiment of sorts, i'm writing about the experience and i thoroughly video taped the whole process (like packaging and mailing) and will be keeping all the e-mails passed between. i'm also passing e-mails back and forth between the BBB. It's not all bad, but there are some concerning things but according to them most have been worked out. I'm a consumer reporter but I also write about technology so I decided to combine an article about the iphone 4 with ways to get rid of your old ones without being taken advantage of in the process. I did let them know that I was doing a story on them during my first phone call earlier in the week, i felt it was only fair to let the company know they were being evaluated. We have two that are going to this company and once we are finished will send two more to another to give a fair analysis.

We will see what happens and I'll let everyone know!

UPDATE!:

I received a very nice phone call (as did my significant other) with regard to the price they were going to offer. They offered us both 300.00 on each of our phones (original quote was 400.00). Considering right now they are going on their website for 230.00 i think that was a pretty fair trade. So assuming this check makes it to us, which I believe it will, I think i will have to say at least for now the experience was satisfactory. I'll provide an update when the check is received.

Thanks for the update! I was heading to this thread to moan and groan about the new quote I received on their site. My first quote was a couple of weeks ago and they said 455 for the 32gb 3Gs. Now its at $230 as you mentioned.
I guess I missed my window on this one.

I don't think they followed through. If they quoted you $400, and you sent it within the required timeframe, with the condition reported accurately they should send $400. Period.

Many other sites lock in the value they appraise once you initiate the process. Sounds like bait and switch that others have reported, cheap move on their part since they know you want to get rid of your phone.

I decided to sell my 3G with gazelle.com. Quoted me $114 for it. Higher than I thought.

I used Gazelle.com for both my 3GS 16GB last night ($175) and my old 3G 16GB ($145). I did a little research and they are accredited by the BBB. Fair price I guess and I have 30 days to send in my phones.

I always ask myself that if I wondering if the business is legit, do I really want to take a chance.

Let me put it another way, if you need to ask that this place is kosher, do you really want to take a chance with your iPhone? There are much more safer alternatives then this.

I have my 16gig 3GS listed on eBay with a starting bid of $185-. It's in near new condition and I'm hoping the auction ends in the $250- area.

Payment will be instant with Paypal. I feel better about this method.

Any examples?

Personally, ive done the ebay route before and didnt mind it to much. Just a little more leg work on the part of the seller compared to cashfor. However, since the quote has changed to less then $300, Im starting to think ebay is the way to go this time.

I sent them my old laptop a while back and got a decent price. Recently I sent my blackberry to them and was offered half of what was quoted even though it was in near perfect shape, so I told them to send my phone back. Go ebay route for more money.

I got 265 yesterday for my 16gb black 3gs. Ive seen them going for up to $290,but you have to make sure your buyer has positive feedback, and I'd suggest boxing the phone ans sealing package in front of the postal worker so you have a witness. Many scammers on Ebay will say the box you sent contained junk, and paypal WILL refund their money unless you can prove you sent phone.

much easier/safer to sell thru craigslist in a public, high traffic area.

sold my white 3GS for $475 yesterday and black 3GS for $385 today, both on 3.1.2 and unlocked

I'm satisfied but not ecstatic by any means. I'm just glad I didnt get totally ripped off which didnt happen. I think they quote high on their site to compete with others. I'll mention this as one thing to watch out for.

The thing about E-bay is they sack you with fee's, sure you can make up for it in shipping but still it all comes out in the end. I sold my old macbook pro on there before I upgraded and with all the fee's i definitely was not satisfied with the deal.

Craigslist is a good forum to sell in if your careful, but there are alot of scams out there probably more now that the new iphone was just on pre-order, there will be more to sort through.

i guess the entire event (selling your iphone) is a effort in managing expectations. The vendor (who is taking your iphone) is expecting to make money on the deal in some way, you on the other hand want to get a good quote. Sure, I would have rather had the 400.00 but all things considered I'm satisfied with what i got. Now if we had gone to 200.00 then that would have been an issue and would have raised serious red flags to me. If you want to dump a piece of hardware (laptop, phone, etc) i dont think (so far) they are all that horrible however each may have a different experience and from the reports looks like some do.

On that note, I'm sure all have seen those selling iphone 4's for 5k on ebay...that's just crazy.
