Just a few questions falks....
Few days ago on my credit card statement there were 2 exact transactions of $53.59 two days in a row for a 7/11 fuel i purchased.

My questions is

1) With tab & go do you guys always take a reciept or no?

2) After the purchase, is it possible the seller void the orignal transaction and alter the amount after the buyer is gone?

After the Coronavirus pandemic i have been using my credit card almost for everything but not sure how important is it to keep a reciept for each transaction.

Are the transactions still pending, or did they go through? In this case, having a receipt would not really help as it would prove ONE transaction, not the other one. If they went through, just call your bank, they should remove one without any pain. If it's still pending, my understanding is that it happens when there is some hiccup.

Thanks Yaxomoxay, yes the transaction already gone through but its really weird because i never fill up fuel 2 days in a row. I am seeing 7/11 management on Friday and see how it goes. I am disputing the 2nd transaction with my bank.

Most sellers avoid issuing a reciept not sure why.

I have not read the entire thread sorry but from my perspective. In the UK I did everything cashless, Internet banking, Oyster card for travelling on public transport, debit card for purchases. Only ever had a few coins in my wallet. Swipe it and pay for it.

Then I got to the Philippines back in early March. Cash is king here. The only time I do anything electronic is when I go to the ATM to get cash.

Instore purchases do you always keep your copy of the reciept ?

Never make in store purchases but if I did then yes I would keep the receipt.

Sorry my bad I said 'swipe it and pay for it'. That was a mistake I do not do in store purchases.

Let me know how it goes. Most likely, it's a hiccup. Hopefully it's not about scam readers at gas stations, which would be quite a mess to resolve...

The homeless part was funny :) homeless people i buy them a burger or chicken but never give them cash cause they'll misuse it. .

If I feel compelled enough to help someone who is asking, then I’ve done my part. What they do with it is out of my control. I am not responsible for their actions. That being said I very rarely carry cash.

I still carry cash for certain situations (tips, gas/petrol station, traditional market). Cannot help it. However, majority of vendors in malls are already cashless.

In most cases, you wouldn't be helping, you would be damaging them independently of your intentions. Don't give cash to homeless individuals (or those who appear to be; you would be surprised to know how much some make in an hour, depending on the geographic location).

Thats what i think too, its better to see them in full stomach than smokes in their lungs.

Giving to charities, especially one's that do work with the homeless will help ensure your cash good to good use.

Giving direct to a "homeless" person is going to be as effective as flushing it down the toilet and 99 times out of 100 will not help any truly homeless person.

Each time you do that, charities lose a chance to really help them where it's needed.

It is not possible for them to altar the amount after it’s already ran. Unless it’s a tip at a restaurant, you’ll go to jail for years to come if you try it.

I use Apple Pay most days and I always say no to receipts.

Never owned one, never will. I don’t do credit.

I don't do credit either, but.

Probably differs region to region but there are advantages around consumer protection that make having a Credit Card valuable. Being able to get refunds after a company goes out of business, airlines and the like, I have been able to rely on Credit Card protection to deal with those sort of situations better and quicker than my bank.

So, not about credit but I always make certain purchases using my credit card simply for the benefits it offers. Paying the balance off each month in full.

But then, some people just shouldn't have credit regardless.

Yes, I know, old quote :)

I use credit/contactless for everything possible and have been doing that for years.

I never take receipts for physical credit card or contactless purchases, but I do keep a close watch on my credit card charge online and in my statements. I have twice had duplicate charges for one purchase but all it took was a call to the credit card company and they instantly voided the duplicate charge.

Same day and time? Mine was over two different days which raised suspicion.

Duplicate charges usually happen due to technical or usage error and happens almost same minute or minutes.

I've had double charges happen now and then. Usually they stay pending and one disappears by the time the pending goes away (which, for some cards can be weeks to almost a month).

This is true. But you are pretty well protected with the distance selling act etc in my country. Plus to be honest I make so few purchases. Most of them will be with someone I know (like Amz or a camera company I know). Very rare for me to buy of someone else. I've only booked one flight personally in my life. Mostly I only travel for work and I use their credit card company for that!

To the original thread question, I have mostly gone cashless for every day purchases. I do carry some cash just in case though. Those times their card reader is not working or some place is so in the early 20th century that I'd rather use cash there than take a chance on using my card with them lol. But usually I use my Apple card for everyday purchases using my phones Apple wallet to get 2% cash back thing. And all major purchases online with my Credit card from other banks. I stopped using my debit card if I can help it. Reduce the risk of my actual checking account being at risk. And I just usually pay off my purchases at the end of the week with the online bank apps so I don't run up a big bill.

As for the keeping receipts. I stopped keeping receipts after I went to using Ridge Wallet for minimal carrying stuff in my pants pockets. I may keep a receipt if it's a large ticket item like a TV or something. Or Car repair. Otherwise since I use CC for everything there's a record of it. So not totally necessary to me to keep a paper receipt.

I have a Revolut account with a physical card plus connected to apple pay for all my day to day purchases I just use that, topping up in literally a second when needed. That way, I tap, see the amount on my phone and get all the detail I need, that way I never give anyone access to or details from my main bank account and can ring-fence all that type of spending.

Yeah that is really weird. Both instances were when the person running register said the card didn't go through and wanted to swipe again. I made sure to double check my activity and quickly noticed the double charges popped up.

I think cash will disappear in 10 years time just like the Cheque.

You can't force the elderly over to something they refuse to understand. My parents don't even like using ATM's and prefer walking into the branch to speak to a real human.. Unfortunately, even that's going down.

A few years ago I switched to carrying a slim wallet, in a front pants pocket. I did so because I was having back problems due to sitting on a thick wallet. Now I just carry credit and ID cards, and so forth. 99% of the time I use Apple Pay or a credit card; I keep a couple of folded bills in my wallet for emergencies.

I still have my old wallet, which I use for carrying a larger amount of cash plus those cards that I don't frequently use. If I am going somewhere that I might need a decent amount of cash, I carry that wallet in a zippered vest pocket. Seems to work pretty well.
