The moment the Verizon iPhone comes out AT&T can kiss the fattest part of my ass. I don't care how much contract termination will cost.

Does anybody have any idea, would these new iPhones be likely work on CDMA and GSM? If Apple want to maximise profits and keep their lineup of available phone simple (only difference is capacity and colour) then it seems like they would have the next iPhone compatible with both networks.

Does anybody know what most other phone manufacturers do?

no idea. Theres a chance they would...i.e. a world phone. Or they could just have the CDMA chipset in there. Although I think it would be really smart to have a CDMA/GSM LTE hybrid chip in there

because apple kept making a point out of it in iphone commercials in the past.

Yeah and Apple mocked the Intel GMA 9xx graphics on their website before switching to Intel, and then they put the Intel GMA in all their low end machines. I guarantee that if do CDMA, Apple marketing will forget about that point all together.

Pretty sure i was able to use both at the same time when i had my original iphone. nonetheless i have 3g coverage all the time and so do most customers, and apple touted this feature in their iphone commercials. so im pretty sure it is a deal breaker.

That is incorrect. I have one and you cannot do both at the same time.

That Appleseed family are such fanboys/fangirls. I hope they're well paid.

Wouldn't the iPhone for Verizon be both CDMA/GSM like my sister's BB Tour from Verizon? Its has a Vodafone Sim card for when she travels. My brother in law has one and it came in handy when he left to Mexico for a month. You would only need GSM if you travel, but most countries have at least one CDMA provider which most likely they do business with Verizon.

I dont even live in the US and I want this to come out just to shut up the moaners who hate ATT :)

I wish I had the time and interest to quote some posts from a few days ago, when many people were confident that CDMA would never happen.

Still, I love how forum members state what Apple Inc WILL and WON'T do.

Kids and geeks...

This is probably a stupid question, but what exactly is CMDA? Is it a 4G network? Is it better than the 3G AT&T network that the iPhone 4 currently runs on?

I'm looking at buying an iPhone 4... is there any reason I should wait if these rumors are true? What's the advantage?

It's the older technology to deliver calls, texts, etc. to phones. In USA carriers like Verizon use it whereas AT&T uses more modern technology (I get all these abbreviations mixed up, if I tried to tell you which one/s I'd probably get it wrong).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CDMA

Here in Australia CDMA has been abandoned and towers have been shut down. This was announced in 2005-ish and new plans were made unavailable on CDMA, and now the towers have all (or mostly?) been shut down.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong somewhere!!

LOL... really now? is that a serious question?....
no theres no reason to wait... and its not necessarily any better of a network... its a 3g network. verizon will use the same 4g network as att..

EVDO (the 3G service used by Verizon, Sprint, Telecom NZ, etc) I believe is newer than UMTS (used by AT&T, Vodafone, etc). The voice/text services of CDMA are newer than GSM too.

Having said that, HSPA+ is certainly faster than EVDO Rev A. Two years ago, Telecom NZ's EVDO network was the fastest 3G network in Europe/Australasia (for some reason America wasn't surveyed). Now, the local HSPA+ network can offer substantially faster speeds (I've seen 17 Mb/s).

However, I don't claim to be an expert and may be "pairing" these technologies incorrectly. EVDO may actually be the counterpart of HSPA rather than UMTS, for example.

wow. so many fan boys its not even funny... i love apple... and love my apple laptop wayyyyy more then windows... but how is android really that horrible? I love my evo... way more then my friends iphone 4. the huge screen = amazing. sure the app stores are no where close... but androids not that bad...

I don't totally disagree, but I do have a couple of issues. First, I had a G1, which I got rid of in about 3 days. Then I had a My Touch that I carried for about 2 or 3 months. Hardware was terrible. OS version was just OK. New hardware for Android is much better, i.e., Droid, EVO and Vibrant. I, personally think the Vibrant is the best of the bunch.

But I still think, even taking away the App Store's superiority over the Market Place, that the iPhone interface is slicker and easier to use. Is the Android platform more customizable without dangerous jailbreaking, etc? Yes. But honestly, the only thing that the iPhone doesn't offer that I, personally would like to have is hotspot capability.

And regardless of what anyone claims, there is no good alternative for iTunes on the Android platform. I used Doubletwist with my Mac and the MyTouch, but that was just OK. Every time I've asked one of my Android touting friends about a slick alternative to iTunes on the Android system I am met with blank stares and shrugs.

I wonder would this phone be available in Australia..

So do I. If it also have the same network capabilities of the iPhone 4, I don't see why not. Hopefully the CDMA enabled phones will just replace future iPhone 4 sales.

Some manufacturers have dual chipset models available, but this is not very common.

Given the space constraints within iPhone 4 mechanics then a dual-mode "iPhone 4W" is basically impossible. (Unless the battery size is significantly reduced.)

"Apple is a company that doesn't have the most resources of everybody in the world. And the way we've succeeded is by choosing what horses to ride very carefully, technically. We try to look for these technical vectors that have a future. And that are headed up. Different pieces of technology kind of go in cycles. They have their springs and summers and autumns and then they go to the graveyard of technology. So we try to pick things that are in their springs."

nice quote from iCon.... unfortunately it is/was utter bullcrap..like most things he's ever said.

What he meant was.... we'll support the technology that doesn't threaten our profits.

I will be on verizon quicker than quick. I still don't get how some people think 3g from ATT is faster. My iphone SUCKS in browsing speed compared to my ipad that I use with Verizon MiFi device. Talk about fast. Even the iPhone is fast when I use that!
