Really? Have hard data to back that up? If it smashes so easily why is it the #1 handset sold at AT&T, Verizon and Sprint? Surely millions of people wouldn't buy a phone they know will be smashed if they drop it. Yes I know someone who had to replace the glass on their iPhone but I would assume its the exception not the norm otherwise we'd be reading about massive returns. Don't think the media wouldn't report that with glee just like they did with antennagate.

well my friend dropped hers while sitting in the car it went down the door well and cracked the back glass. Thats not a big drop

Remember this is an Apple forum. It's very fashionable to hate, trash, and generally act arrogant or condescending (you're holding it wrong) like the former CEO.

It's the Apple culture. While not practiced by everyone, it's still far too predominant for a successful influential company like Apple.

SURPRISE, heeeeeeere's another trash talking, insulting post by Vitzr!

Yeah, was thinking about that after I posted. Just don't recall seeing a trackpad for desktop. Either way that pretty much answers my question, thanks!

I'm not suggesting it can't or doesn't happen sometimes but the original comment made it sound like it happens all the time. If that's the case why aren't more phones being returned or why are so many stillmsellinfin the first place?

about sales of iphone - most people dont know there's diffirent types of glass and so its not a decision when buying. Most people assume apple will use the best materials but they dont always.

All Vizio TV's seems to have muddy colors. I can spot Vizio 100% of the time because of the poor colors.
If this is true for their PC monitors, nobody will have to worry.

I concur. We have Vizios at the gym and, man, they are atrocious.

Two of five have this weird dark patch in the middle of the screen. I've noticed this on other Vizios as well. A lot of Vizio fans play the it's great for the price thing, but I'm willing to shell out an extra hundy to buy from a legit manufacturer.

Maybe that explains my fascination with Apple.

The main point of discussion here should be about Gorilla Glass. If that's what is on the iPhone 4, then they should replace it with something else. Who bends their iPhone? No one. This stuff is ridiculously weak when dropped. If there were no issues with the glass there'd be no such thing as AppleCare plus.

Apple should focus on designing products that don't scratch or break so easily. How is it good industrial design to make Your portables so fragile that you are guaranteed to destroy them if you don't buy a protective accessory?

Just curious how many iPhones have had to be replaced or were returned because of cracked glass. Is there any hard data on that? If it's so weak and cracks so much wouldn't people just buy a different phone? Or are they that in love with iOS and the App Store that they'll put up with having to replace it?

My previous phone was an HTC and it was a plasric piece of crap. I had to protect the screen which made the display quality crap and made multi touch more difficult. I have no protective covering on the front of my iPhone and I have no scratches whatsoever. Also incase makes nice cases which aren't bulky and keep the design integrity of the phone intact. I have no problem buying a case like that because I know I have a high quality phone not some plastic piece of crap.

That's not an All-in-one. Note the cube-esque component to the right which is their design answer to the mac mini.

Wrong

That's not a speaker, it's the actual computer.

Exactly

Interesting mix of opinions about the Vizio pictures… not to mention some confusion over whether that angled box on the right is a desktop PC or a speaker(?)

Confused???

I(for anyone wanting to know) 'm gonna wager the desktop pc is hackintoshable. It looks like the motherboard is in the base so we are likely to see laptop components (ulv intel i CPU and hd 3000)

Right

The All in one is not bad either. An original idea, at least to have the computer be built into the base in a tasteful way.

Right again.

Its easy to see that the base of this computer is the actual computer, its thick in the back and all the ports are there, unlike on an iMac which has them on the back of the LCD Panel.

I am having a hard time figuring out why Vizio thinks this is a good time to get into this particular market. Talk about a declining market with entrenched competition from far better capitalized companies...

This seems like a mistake. They could better spend their time and effort establishing themselves in a new and developing market like say... Smart tvs or tablets.

Thanks for posting. From the link you supplied:

inspite this troubling increase, it’s important to take the accident rate into perspective. Overall, the iPhone is still a very well constructed device, with a non-accident malfunction rate much lower than most other consumer electronics.”

And

SquareTrade states that the iPhone 4 is breaking 82% more than the iPhone 3GS, but this is the sort of sleight of hand statement crafted to grab headlines.

translation: In its sample groups of about 20,000 iPhone owners, SquareTrade actually found that 3.9% of iPhone 4s suffered broken glass in the first four months, in contrast to 2.1% with the iPhone 3GS. Sounds a lot less dramatic doesn’t it?

Again this reminds me of Anetnnagate. Although this never rose to the level of hype Antennagate did. I'll say it again if broken glass was such an issue and so many people were having to replace their iPhones fewer people would be buying them. Yet Verizon just recently reported selling over 4M iPhones in Q4 2011. And when I was at AT&T one of the salespersons told me the iPhone 4S was selling like crazy. My friend wanted the 32G in black and AT&T sent us to the Apple store because they were out of stock. Seems odd tha a phone which supposedly has such poor durability would sell so well.

According to a report from Canaccord Genuity the iPhone 4S was the best selling handset at all 3 carriers in December. http://tinyurl.com/8a8cmbt

This is why I hope Apple doesn't get into the business of making TV sets. I don't think there is a shortage of good quality TV sets. I don't see Apple being able to successfully compete with Panasonic, LG, Sony etc. in that market. Maybe they have a play in the 'smart TV' market but I see that as building out AppleTV not designing TV sets.

You're right. iPhones are perfect. :)
Er, where did I say they were perfect? It's the haters who expect perfection and then claim an apple product sucks if it's not perfect in every way. I'd love to see some hard data on the return or replacement of ALL smartphones. Do people who purchase non-Apple phones never return them, never break or scratch them, never have to replace them? I have a hard time believing that.

Vizio PC

Looks like the illegitimate child of a night of passion between an Apple iMac and a Lenovo All-In-one...

It was a one-night stand, it didn't mean anything... oh well...

LOL! The iPhone has the worst glass ever to be on a phone. It scratches like nothing else and if you drop it once your whole phone is cracked up.

I've owned three iPhones since Feb 2008, and not a single scratch on any of them. And I've had my iPhone 4 for almost a year and a half.

That Vizeo PC looks like it'll either fall over if I sneeze in its general direction, or the monitor will wobble from any slight vibration on the desk (like typing) because of the thin neck that attaches it to the base.

Hmm....I have no scratches on my iPhone 4S and I've dropped it a couple times yet it still looks like new. I call BS on this. If what you said was true people would be returning iPhones like crazy. Yet I've not heard about massive returns. Didn't Verizon just report record iPhones sales?

The case of "It hasnt happened to me, so theres no way it could have happened to anyone else on the planet" sure is strong on this forum.

The back of my iPhone 4 scratched so severely that I had to have it replaced because any photos were just a haze of scratches, just from being in my pocket with nothing else, its why I have a huge chunky case on my 4S.

There are YouTube videos of everything in the world. I think that the iPhone is somewhat fragile when naked, but you should use a case anyway. If it had the built-in case, it wouldn't be customizable.

And the other guy is right. If it was a problem, the media would be all over it.

look nobody is saying the iphone 4 isn't a well contructed device. The glass shatters quite easy though its a known fact. Just google "cracked iphone 4 glass" there's a gazillion results. Most people use a case to protect it.

The fact its got glass on the back means its just another place its going to shatter when dropped. I think because the edges of the glass are showing also makes it shatter easier.

How do you explain the drop test video if the glass in the iphone 4 is as good?
