Exactly. If it had an Apple logo on it, the same guys who are now bitching about that product would already be salivating and checking their credit card balance.

Some will, sure. But not the sane ones. Because if that were true the Cube or the lampshade imac would be ubiquitous, eh?
Tired of your "fanboy" ****. Seriously.

The case of "It hasnt happened to me, so theres no way it could have happened to anyone else on the planet" sure is strong on this forum.

The back of my iPhone 4 scratched so severely that I had to have it replaced because any photos were just a haze of scratches, just from being in my pocket with nothing else, its why I have a huge chunky case on my 4S.
One could also say the case of "it's happened to me so surely it's happening to everyone else too" is prevalent as well. ;). I'm not suggesting the iPhone never scratches or breaks; I'm suggesting it doesn't happen as much as some claim it does.

LOL!

It's funny that you mention driver issues. Recently my friend's mother in law suddenly had the DVD drive on her Windows 7 machine stop working. Turns out it was a corrupt driver (of course the "Mac guy" fixed it and that was the first time I touched Windows 7). I keep hearing from all the Windows fans here how amazing and different Windows 7 is (some even claim the best Windows ever - though my favorite was Windows 2000 professional) and I should give it a chance ( I left Windows at XP and switched to Linux then OSX in October 2009 with a C2D 27" iMac). So it seems like the "same old song and dance" with Windows driver issues. No thanks!!

In almost three years of using a Mac, I have not had one driver issue. In fact I forgot what a driver issue was. That's why I like the Mac, there is no wasted down time fixing trivial ***t that should work properly in the first place. Wait - there's no down time fixing anything. :D The bonus for me is that it's a *NIX system.

BTW - She paid $900 for the Windows 7 box from a independent build to order shop that came with a clunky, huge **s tower and a junk 20" LCD display. She could have bought a refurbished 21.5" iMac for $929 and had a far superior machine.

Good luck Vizio (you will need lots of it)!

The driver issues are not a problem with the OS itself, it's a driver issue. Meaning the people who make the drivers are responsible.

I have not had any driver issues on Windows.

I never said you were. There are other people here who think that the glass is strong, and the way to know is that it sells so well.

But you can't really use a test video to see how strong it is, and you should always use a case anyway.

I'm not suggesting people are buying iPhones just because of the glass. But if it was pretty much guaranteed the phone would easily scratch or crack/break I don't think as many people would be buying it. I think it's a combination of function and form. And many think of the iPhone as a premium quality device, not some plastic crap you get from other device manufacturers.

----------

IMO electronics with a microprocessor have always been a fragile class of household items. By wrapping the iPhone in glass it sends the message "this device is powerful, take care of it." (To me at least)

Too often in todays society the consumer outcry is to abuse-proof the device, rather than teach personal accountability.

Is this the message we wish to send to our children? "Mistreat your possessions, blame the manufacturer for the lack of care you extend towards your stuff."

I myself treated my phones poorly for YEARS, until I purchased my first iPhone, and finally started to care for my trusty companion. I have a bamboo case, and my iPhone 4 was immaculate at the time that I replaced it with the 4S.

I look forward to another year of a flawless phone.

Chalk it up to ownership I suppose.

EE
exactly. I know how much I spent on my iPhone and I'm going to make damn sure I take care of it. Of course accidents do happen. That's what you have warranties for.

A corrupt driver is probably a sign of a bad hard drive... I'd also run a scan of her HDD (note: iMac's also have HDD's which can fail).

The only troubles I have had with optical drives are where there was a hardware issue and replacement was the only solution.

If apple intended for you to put a case on your phone why did they put glass on the back

i think its a real shame to cover such a nice looking phone
I have a thin black case which is semi see through. I don't mind it at all. Indont really lose much of the form factor at all. I'll take that over the plastic crap of the previous phone I had. HTC sucks.

It is actually designed to compete with the mac mini and 27 inch monitor, not an iMac. And it doesn't look particularly innovative from a design perspective. Very sixties look, if anything needs a lava lamp beside it.

Anyway, the reason the Vizio CEO mentioned that he was making his products as much like apple as possible is that nobody would have paid him any attention if he just said " here are our cool new, well designed PCs." That would not have generated any articles except for a paragraph on the bottom of page 125 of PC World. Maybe.

In other words, he was trolling.

Your insight serves you well.

Looks fine to me, allthough the bezel kind of breaks the harmony. But anyways, doesn't deserve all this sarcasm, it seems as if they really paid attention to the look of it, which changes

That's about my experiences, too. An optical drive crapping out due to mechanical issues? It doesn't happen all the time, but it's a regular enough occurrence that it isn't too surprising when it does.

An optical drive crapping out due to corrupted drivers in Windows 7? That just doesn't happen by itself. 99.9% of the time, it's either due to a bad HDD (as suggested above), a bad stick of RAM, or a bad piece of hardware.

It won't have a bottom bezel (Or any bezel) and it's base stand will be the same as the iMacs stand. it'll also be the same color as the iMac.

Samsung did the equidistant minimalist bezel look for their TVs first... apple cant use that design because that would be copying.

I had an iPhone 4 that slipped from a height of about 8-10 inches as I bent to tie my shoe. Glass shattered. I have a friend who is not rough with her phone and on shattered iPhone #2.

It's a bad design, but I like the OS so I use it.

It makes me laugh that fanboydom prevents people from critically assessing the strengths and weaknesses of Apple products.

Let me repeat something I said before: if the glass wasn't a problem, AppleCare plus would not exist. It was created specifically because the phone is prone to accidental breakage.

Portable devices should be rugged. And don't get me started on battery life.

The keyboards remind of the keyboards found in low end Acers and Gateways (flush to the surface and very little space between). That's not a positive. Uncomfortable to type on to say the least.

I love when companies want to compete with Apple in the computer side but they forget to say its just another windows clone. Mac is not just about the hardware or pretty metal frame, there is so much more to Apple's products not to exclude the operating system which is a blast to use.

The problem is that their "all-in-ones" are running an OS (that sucks) made by Microsoft, but the hardware is made by other companies. It's against the all-in-one spirit, and I'll bet the drivers will be an issue.

So I doubt people will want Windows all-in-ones, before or after they get one.

Maybe windows sucks for you - but everyone else has their own opionion. Windows sucks for me too, btw. Due to the install base of windows - I'm sure there are more happy windows users than total OSX installations! OSX isn't suited to everyone for whatever reason - just like Windows or any other piece of software that has ever been created.

Driver issues are a relative small problem - but I'm sure that you'll post some antidocial reasons why this is not the case.

No, they don't need to be. Or else, we wouldn't have such a healthy 3rd party case market.

I have owned every iPhone since 3G model and not once have I ever dropped the phone and cracked the glass.

If you're clumsy, or just paranoid, slap on a case and move on.

Still using my Pioneer 50" Kuro plasma from about 4 years ago. It only does 720p (or 1080 downscaled), but it still looks amazing.

Same here. Have yet to view a set that betters it. Have a friend in the high end AV retail trade who has kept his too.

Apparently these moth eye Philips are the next canine's danglies, but I'm sticking with the Kuro for now. Besides, it heats our cinema room so no need for radiators!

Oh do please tell us how they would be copying we all really want to know?

It'll be copying for the exact same reasons people say Android tablets copy the iPad for using a similar design. You know, for having the audacity of making a device that's a rectangle with a screen on it.

In other words, it's not copying. But everyone is so obsessed about who's ripping off who, and innovation, and blah, that it suddenly becomes a huge talking point.
