Aah, so it needs a good bit of new manufacturer. I get it now..

Apple?

I'm loving all of these "slate" computers coming out now. Not because any of them interest me, but if/when Apple introduces their own version I can't wait to see the backpedaling. Suddenly that worthless feature in XYZ slate will be inspired by baby Jesus himself when implemented by Apple.

Wow, you guys really are crazy fanboys, I guess thats why I limit myself to the main page and stay off the forums.

Main page is really only good to glimpse the news. Main page comments on the other hand is where people go full retard. The forums are pretty good though.

Erm, excuse me but tablets have been around for YEARS. You're criticizing your own sacred company. Blasphemy!

Well, sort of...to this point, most tablets were just notebooks with a screen that could be spun around and closed with the screen facing outwards. A true tablet with no such fanagling hasn't been made yet (or am I wrong? I don't pay attention to the tablet market as I have little to no use for one).

And the vast majority of the people who don't like OS X have never owned a Mac.

"Go ahead, tell me about that university mac you used, that was poorly maintained and running 10.3; I'll tell you how your opinion about macs is completely irrelevant. Or better yet, tell me you've never used a mac at all, and you just 'don't like them'."

There you go... assuming.

I currently own 4 iPods (2 Shuffles, 1 Nano and a 1st gen Mini that still holds a charge), 3 iPhones (1 2G and 2 3GS) and have been through my fair share of MacBooks and iMacs.
I've since sold everything but the iPods and iPhones.

Nice internet surfing toy's, but not useful for my line of work. Dual booting and VM's aren't worth the hassle and the price of the hardware.

Can anyone here imagine what would have happened if Jobs came out and showed an iPhone and said, "This is the iPhone. It's revolutionary. And I can't tell you anything about it."

There were lots of unanswered questions about the Iphone after the MWSF keynote where it was announced. SOP when showing prototypes - if the design details are still fluid, keep quiet.

Hewlet Packard TC1000/TC1100.

They had completely removable keyboards.

I know what you're saying, it's just funny seeing all of these prototype "slates" that nobody is willing to talk about come out in the past few days.

EDIT: Furthermore, we got an exhaustive demo at the announcement. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/mwsf07/

Poorly maintained university computer labs?

I'd be spinning in my grave.

Just think about it, people have said Apple are releasing a tablet.

Apple havent denied it or approved it. They are keeping their head down and doing something though, the number of patents recently proves that.

However because of pure rumor, other massive companies are trying to beat Apple to the game, if people started a rumour saying Apple are going to make a games console, Microsoft would probably release a new Xbox next week, and some other third rate company (possibly Dell) would jump on the band wagon and create something.

Apple is soo far ahead of the game pure rumor about products is making companies release products just to try and keep their head above the water

that is all

I love my iPhone, but I really wish Apple would get off their high-horse and give it some of the basic features other phones have.

What do you possibly want it to do that it cannot do already?

Sounds like to me you shouldn't be owning one.

I'm not sure I can take any more tablet/slate rumours or announcements. Is anyone else getting tired of this? Don't get me wrong, I'm anxious to see what apple produces like the next guy, and if they produce something that runs some quality/useful applications I would be very tempted to buy one over the macbook air I've been considering, but I'm feeling a little over stimulated. All the hype has really put a bad taste in my mouth.

I don't get what you're trying to say. If apple relased a tablet tomorrow, it wouldn't be the first tablet ever.

I'm replying to you on one now for christ sake

Hilarious that MS and Dell (and others?) are releasing tablets yet they have no clue what to do with them to market them or get anyone to take notice. Wait for Apple to show you what you're supposed to do with it. Great strategy, guys. They think they're getting ahead of the game, instead of playing catchup for two years like what happened after the iphone's release, but they'll still be catching up because they're clueless.

Fair enough. has no one ever seen the modbook or modbook pro???

http://www.axiotron.com/index.php?id=modbook

tablets have been around for years,

What im really trying to say is, Apple is the market leader for next generation technology, and is apparently creating something "new", basically, other compnies are following apple into whatever apple are doing... even though the tablet and touch idea has been around forever its only because apple are getting back into the game that other companies are jumping back into it

Well good for you!! If it doesn't work out for ya then great don't use it. The reason we believe that most people have never used one is because they haven't. I don't think we said all, but most. Where do we get this idea. Well for starters, I talk to a lot of people about it and they say they don't like macs, but then I asked if they have ever used one and they say no. If they have it's like, "Well, I checked one out for a few minutes at the apple store and I didn't understand it." In reality it's just a form of statistics. In fact, this is HOW people get statistics. If you have any way to disclaim my personal experience which appears to match almost everyone else's, let me know.

I used my first tablet pc back in 2005. It was a HP TC1100, my first computer at my current job and it was awesome. Completely detachable keyboard, docking station, it has all I needed.

I'm now using a Panasonic CFU1 with the docking station as a an ultraportable, rugged pc and as a desktop replacement.

Honestly, modbook or not, tablet pc's havs been around for years.

My prediction for the Jan event:

Steve shows off all the new iTunes media stuff. "One more thing... This is the new iSlate/iPad/etc. It will be released later this year. Thank you all for coming...."

A few seconds later SJ returns...

"Who do you think we are? Dell? Microsoft? HP?"

Minds blown away...

You want to know what's interesting..... I don't see any other tech giant openly making fun of each other. Only Apple does this, and they've been doing it for a while. It's part of their strategy.

This Dell prototype looks so cool but damn it, 5". This is on that line where it is too small to be useful for a tablet/reading device and too big to big a portable device.

Just to chime in at this point...

Well, maybe you are alluding to that famous Pippin, that Apple released. Oh a game-changer it was.

Or are you talking about the infamous Phil Schiller speech, where he tried to tell you in his keynote, that the "funnest iPod ever" and the Jesus Phone are the best selling portable gaming device - I just saw that slide on the Macrumors live feed saying something about iPhone, Nintendo DS and PSP and went like "Gosh, who the hell is believing this bunch of crap?"

Well, obviously judging from this thread there are at least a dozen people fully fed up with Apple's marketing stuff.

A last disclaimer off topic: Still a proud PPC user here but also proud iPhone hater. Not that the iPhone is a bad product, but the bunch of LIES, Steve and Phil fed to the audience during iPhone history makes it evil. (A few examples: 3G is not needed and drains battery too fast, Who wants MMS?, MMS is not supported on iPhone 2G due to hardware issues, Webapps are sufficient for anything - blablabla)

And on topic: Pre is looking better with these improvements. Still won't buy it, rather wait for the Sony Idou-decessor. Sony has to make a decent product in the near future, don't they?

And that Dell is looking really nice. You have to credit them for that.

Flash

You failed to mention that they also released flash for the browser for the palm pre in beta form and officially in web os 1.4

Special Pre-Order Offer!!!

Order your 5 inch Dell tablet today and get a free magnifying glass with it and feel like Sherlock Holmes.

YAY!!! WTF????

Per my tweet:
Dell has a prototype of a 5inch "slate" computer, ARE YOU SERIOUS?! What the f*** are you going to do with 1.5 more inches than an iPhone?

pt2 Only thing it would be good as is an oversized phone, it'll be a s*** computer and s*** e-book reader, 8in is the min for any to be good

Fascinating how quickly the term "slate" for the new tablet style is taking over.I wonder if it will become as adopted as say Ipod, makes sense now if Apples tablet does have slate in the name after all.
