No. Nokia is losing money and their marketshare is dropping.
I like apple as much as the next guy, but this Dell Slate is pretty damn sexy. 5MP camera too, sounds like an awesome phone for guys with big pockets. And it's going to run android. It looks like it's already running circles around the iPhone 3GS
It's beautiful, sleak, slim. 5 inches is a great size for a phone, it's going to be wonderful for browsing the web on the go.
If you look at the Dell Slate is a smartPHONE (it has a freaking dialer) and not as a tablet then I don't see what the problem is.
So my question for all the people saying Dell is pathetic, tell me, what is wrong with this Dell product? It isn't ugly, it isn't bulky, it's large for a phone, but it certainly isn't bulky, and it can fit in a pocket. It has a beautiful screen, and a 5MP camera.
No, it's not.
Companies make profit to succeed.
The fact that the iPhone is relatively behind on features is evidence of the fact that profit rules all.
You are an ignorant idealist, and you are still assuming that I'm taking Apple's side on this.
I love my iPhone, but I really wish Apple would get off their high-horse and give it some of the basic features other phones have.
But Apple doesn't care, because they are making money.
And mark my words -- Apple will fall, or Apple will fall from grace. Guaranteed.
[Edit] Just to re-iterate, I'm a Mac user, I'm an iPhone user -- and I definitely think there is room for improvement. I just think part of Apple's strategy (right now) is sticking to things they are confident in, rather than taking risks.. and that's why their progress is starting to fall behind. Their BRAND POWER is keeping their profits high.
Why do we have Palm and Dell news on the front page?
5" tablet--epic fail. The big problem: it's too small for readability and comfortable touchscreen operation.
Official Dell Press Release : "WE REFUSE TO DESCRIBE OUR TABLET UNTIL APPLE RELEASES THEIRS AND WE FIGURE OUT HOW TO RIP THEM OFF WITHOUT PATENT PROBLEMS."
Captain Subtext rides again.

It's not a real product at this time.
Let's see
No specs
No price
No release date
Definitely pathetic.
So it's exactly the same as the Apple tablet but with a photograph?
So Palm has done a good ob of trying to catch up with the iPhone. Unfortunately, Apple is still ahead in my estimation and are no doubt hard at work on the next iPhone iteration. Guess they will stay ahead for now.
Because as the old NBC slogan goes, "If you haven't seen it, it's new to you!"Why are people acting like these, Apple's or anyone else's, are NEW? It's mind boggling.
+1 here. Well done! I'm with you on this one.I still would rather Apple give me a smaller MacPro. All I really need is a Mac Mini on steroids, or a smaller MacPro to do my workload. Just one AGP slot, and one PCI slot will make me happy. Space for a single HD, easy access to RAM, and a SATA port.
When this MBP goes, I will likely get a Netbook and VPN into my home machine. My phone will get upgraded when a new Android phone with a Cybershot camera as a feature is available.
That's it. I don't need a tablet. I am not speaking-to-text what I want to write. I am typing, on a real keyboard. I am not gesturing EVERYTHING and buying eMagazines and eBooks. I am already tired at looking at glowing screens everyday, and enjoy my break to a physical material.
The tablet segment is so niche, and the concept so annoying, that I hope Apple includes EVERY requested feature so I never have to hear about it again. I hope it's the device of the millennium, solves AIDS through it's innovative multi-touch grope-me-display and wins Sexiest Man/Woman of the year to be displayed on the front cover of an eMag devoted to celebrities.
Then maybe Apple, who apparently has spent YEARS perfecting this tablet to rival the introduction of the Ten Commandments, can get back to making computers that work, not novelties.
