No new design = no new iPhone for me.

If all they are gona do is put a better camera or faster processor like they did with the 3gs, then its pointless upgrading. My iPhone 4 is fast enough and the camera is ok too.

What if

We've got rumors about a low-end iPhone.
We've got rumors about a revamped iPhone 4.

And we're wondering where the iPhone 5 is. If any.

What if Apple comes with three iPhones next Tuesday  ?

Low-end
Revamped 4
5

:D

Lots of people upgraded from the 3G to the 3GS, as it ran the new apps, games and the latest OS releases a lot more smoothly than did the 3G.

Even if there is no I5, this will be a rather large advancement if it is an unlocked multi-band GSM (with AWS), HSPA+, and CDMA in one device. That, along with the A5 processor, 1G memory, w/ low price would have me excited. I personally care much less about "form factor" as the device being accessible to multiple carriers.

Here is what's going on

This last-minute Brazil discovery shows there are other potential sources of production. Further, the iPhone 5 is the "MacBook Air" of the line - NOT the workhorse 8MP 1GB world phone. It is even shaped to suggest this. It is being produced in limited quantities at a high price for those who want the wow factor with less horsepower.

I bet we see an iPhone 5 marketed as the "future" of mobile phones while not quite industrial-strength for power users. A5 yes, 960x480 4-inch screen yes, unibody teardrop yes, but 5MP camera for smaller form factor. The high price and limited specs, as well as supply shortages, will force a lot of people who admire the phone to wait or, more likely, upgrade to 4S for now.

The reason iPhone 5 has not been outed in the supply chain is that it is bring made in smaller quantities somewhere the analysts aren't looking.

Much of the value of Apple's stock is due to the iPhones. Built into the price is the expectation that Apple will sell something like 30m of these new phones. I think that requires a wow factor and a redesign with a bigger screen. We will see, but why would Apple NOT redesign with a bigger screen? We will see Tuesday.

Great, one more IPhone Available for those of us that actually use the Phone and want features not looks and want a tool, not a status symbol.

Perfectly stated!!

Right, so if this confirms that the N90A is the 8GB iPhone 4, and the white N94 part that looked identical to the iPhone 4 is the iPhone 4S, where is the iPhone 5? Apple won't be releasing 3 phone models, so either the iPhone 4S is the 5th Gen iPhone or the leaked N94 part was a test version of the iPhone 5 for employee testing in public, ie: iPhone 5 housed in iPhone 4 body.

Who knows, lol.

Maybe I missed something, but is it certain that N90A is an 8GB iPhone 4? Why can't it be the 4S and the N94 be a "5"? Is this just based on Apple's tradition of re-releasing an 8GB version of the previous generation? These Foxconn pictures don't prove to me it's an 8GB phone.

Actually, we will see when it gets released and it sells a boatload of units.. Announcements are meaningless without sales!! I'm almost positive that the sales will be brisk, especially with those like me that are holding on to their Upgrades waiting for this phone, those pissed at the Android system for all that Bloatware included in the OS that you can't remove unless you Root your Phone and void your warranty and the upcoming Holiday season!! This is magnificent timing.

Exactly. And moreover Tim Cook himself mentioned during the last financial results that Apple will be releasing a new revolutionary product in the last quarter and will have a major positive impact during that period. Only an iPhone 4 with upgraded specs would not result in a game changing financial quarter. Then again, its all IMO..

Remember NONE of us REALLY knows what the new Phone will be nor do we know what IOS5 will bring!! We have just read rumors and speculation!! Why don't we wait until Tuesday and then we can discuss Facts!!
FWIW, the last quarter of 2011 is not over on Tuesday, the year is young....

I agree with that. With competition as fierce as it is (keep in mind android has made SERIOUS headway in 20 months), I think going another 9-12 months with the same form factor is not good for the company.

Fierce??? No single Android phone model sells anywhere near as well as the iPhone 4. The bigger screen Android models currently don't even sell as well as the 2+ year old 3GS!

All the Android gains are at the low end of the market. A cost reduced iPhone 4(A) will eat into a lot of those Android gains at the low end. Price will be the competitive edge for the new iPhone line-up, and this will simply kill the profitability of a lot of Android vendors.

And an updated dual-core dual-GPU (plus some polished usability features that require such) model will probably keep Apple's lead over any single high-end Android model.

I haven't figured that one yet either. I pulled a rumor/article from 9to5 mac that says apple inventory showed n90a as the 4s, but of course I got the negs. :(:)

i think n94 is the redesigned 5

The Real Problem

The more i think about it--all these rumors, opinions, anger, frustration, etc.--has nothing to do with Apple!

It has to do with 2yr contracts from carriers!

The frustration comes from a dedicated Apple customer having to pass up the latest phone due to the limitations of their current contact. Then, when they become eligible for an upgrade, they want a bang! They don't a huge upgrade to occur while they're stuck.

AT&T started by being pretty liberal about moving up eligibiliy times by 6 months, so people can get the newest model without penalty. But, unless everyone buys their phone the same day, it's impossible to make everyone happy. Some users will get stuck inside a contract when a new iPhone comes out.

I think these rumors show more about the psychology of 2yr. contracts.

Because if there is a 5, or whatever commercial name it will have, it'll be N93 (iOS 5 SDK beta 1 mentioned not only N94 but also N93).

My guess on the new iPhone line:

- iPhone 4 (N90A): 3,5" screen, A4 SoC (CPU/GPU), 512MB RAM, 8GB Flash storage, 5MP camera.

- iPhone 4S (N94): 3,5" screen, A5 SoC (CPU/GPU) same as iPad 2, 768MB or 1GB of RAM, 16GB (and maybe also 32GB) of Flash storage, 5MP or 8MP camera.

- iPhone codenamed N93 (commercial name to be confirmed): 3.8 or 4" screen, A5 SoC (CPU/GPU) faster than iPad 2 (with probability to have Dual-GPU (SGX 543MP2 and SGX 545), 1GB of RAM, 32GB or 64GB of Flash storage, 8MP camera.

You may wonder why high end code name is lower than middle end (N93 for high end, N94 for 4S), the answer is that it's because the N93 project started before the N94 project for obvious reason (more changes, more work needed).
The latest, iPhone codenamed N93, may be have some delay because of screen production problems.

iPhone 4S and iPhone codenamed N93 will both benefit of the new Assistant feature exclusively, current iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and upcoming entry level iPhone 4 (listed above) won't have it.

Thats what I brought out...a FACT, as mentioned earlier by Tim Cook himself. I am not saying there will be or wont be a totally new redesigned iPhone, just trying to say there has to be something major coming out other than iOS5 to justify his claims.

I think this is Apple's game, they did it last time and when the 3GS launched, I remember thinking the WebOS/Android was closing in.

And the iPhone 4 came out and blew things away for a while.

I'm excited for the 4GS, I'd rather a 5, just because the screen is getting a little small when you compare Android/WinPhone7 devices.

More like the other handsets are making phones too big. Why make the iPhone screen bigger when you can just buy an iPad? 4" screen phones are confused with the low end tablet 7" Market. iPhone and iPad is the perfect match.

I have to say that what others are stating in that if the new iPhone is just a spec bump, then I will not utilize my upgrade and wait for the iPhone 6 next year (hopefully with a bigger screen and LTE). If the big news is Assistant, meh, I would consider that like FaceTime where I only used it once when I first received my iPhone 4 and nevermore. My camera is good enough for me to wait for the new iPhone next year. So, like others too, no bigger screen and just a spec bump=next years iPhone. I am not a fanboy but I am also not leaving Apple to get a Droid. I will just wait this iteration of the iPhone for next years version.

This is what I am thinking (hoping). With 3 different iPhones on the market Apple would completely dominate and catch up with android.

If Apple do unveil a redesigned iPhone 5 then it will be the greatest secret kept in tech history.

I'm in Brazil (where those pictures come from) and here we don't have two year contracts with carriers. We get phones through completely different methods, so no one here couldn't care less about the argument above. I wonder how common that "2 years contracts" policy is outside the USA.

Part of me wonders if this whole delay for such an underwhelming release is due to the lack of LTE chipsets that Apple wants... e.g. they'd planned on releasing an iPhone 5 and couldn't, and the 4S is the stop-gap release to hold us over until June 2012.
