Regardless of the name of the thing, I'm looking forward to what it has housed under that shiny glass and metal.

To have iPhone4 level hardware as the low end alternative will be an incredible offer too considering the power of the thing.

It's too early to pass judgement on whats coming yet.

People do this because the numbering and suffix usually indicates a redesign or not. An "S" simply added to a 4 would signify no redesign, and a 5 would likely signal a redesign. That's why there's so much fuss over it.

Whats a redesign going to bring? Be honest all iPhones are pretty much the same looking.

Wow, Innovation

reduced the capacity to 8GB and call it cheaper or price it cheaper.

wait a minute, they did the same with 8Gb iPhone 3GS.

If there is no iPhone 5 WHY are all these carriers showing iPhone 5 stuff ??

This is confusing.

Because no one at the carriers knows anything either. They are guessing that it's going to be called "iPhone 5" and that's what they put in their system. They will change it to iPhone 4S once Apple makes the announcements.

And for all of you who said "the case manufactures wouldn't make all those cases!".... they placed a bet and they lost. If they would have been correct they could have hit it big. They just played the game like everyone else.

iPhone 4S folks. That's it. Tuesday will be the biggest keynote disappointment in the last 5 years.

Its still over 2 days away?

they should just call the next iPhone an iPhone. Period. Carriers can advertise to customers as having the latest generation iPhone and people buying and reselling among themselves can just say the iPhone 2010 or iPhone 2012. having all these 4s or 5 arguments are pissing me off, it doesn't effing matter!

It's made up logic. None of those things a) hold any real meaning and b) may not be sustainable over the life of the iPhone.
I personally think naming the next high-end phone iPhone 5 would be more suitable than 4S. There, let the down ratings begin. :)

Anyway, let's just drop the name thing. It doesn't even matter apparently.

Released along side iPhone 4S featuring A5? Does this imply no tapered 4" iP5 as a result? I'm thinking not.
Anyways, I would love to see this new 3GS replacement be available off contract for ~200.00. Heaven forbthe my iP5 meets an untimely end, it would be nice knowing I'm not up a creek with a 700.00 out of pocket replacement.

Like someone else pointed out, we're not arguing just for naming conventions, we're arguing because 4S = same form factor, 5 = different form factor with larger screen and hopefully better designed antenna system. I personally will probably not stick with the iPhone this round if the next screen is still 3.5". That's why I care about it being a "5" instead of a "4S."

Personally I don't care either way. My iPhone 4 works fine. I have no problems with it. IOS 5 runs fine on it.

So who cares.

Unless the 4S can do something that totally blows me away (and Assistant won't do it) I won't be wasting my upgrade eligibility on it. If they offered me an early upgrade when the redesign does arrive, then ya, sure, I'll get the 4S. But waiting 20 months between phones is killer and I don't see me wanting to rock the 4S for 20 months.

The fact that this is a newer, cheaper model leads me to believe that it will be cheaper than the $99 "previous version" iPhone of the past, as those models remained unchanged except for the capacity. That could leave
the 4S for this position, and the 5 for the higher end:

iPhone 4, $49 w/ prepaid option
iPhone 4S, $99
iPhone 5, $199 / $299, maybe a $399 64 GB option.

The iPhone 5 might be announced but not shipping for a month, which could account for the lack of leaks and references in iTunes.

That's my guess, or at least my attempt to grasp at straws.

People said the same thing about the resolution on the 3GS. Then the iPhone 4 came out and blew people away. Having handled larger screen phones, I guarantee there is a benefit to more screen real estate. Especially when browsing the web, reading books, or playing games.

I wonder if we'll see any change of manufacturing defect rates with the new Foxconn plant in Brazil...as oppose to the China one?

Jeeze, wonder if the delays are Brazill, or iOS 5? Between the two, I'll take one from China. At least until Americans are willing to assemble them for $30 a week. :apple:

If N94 is world phone, why are there 3 versions of iPhone 4 identifier in itunes? 4,1 4,2 and 4,3?

Grease covered straws. ;)
