Hopefully there is 3 iPhone a low iPhone 4 8Gb and a middle range iPhone 4S and then a completely redesigned iPhone 5.

This would work in with reports apple is trying to target the low-end market that android is dominating.

For those of us outside the US who have to wait a year for every new iphone, do you guys think the 4S will come factory unlocked?

Having handled larger screen phones, I guarantee there is a benefit

Noone has been able to explain exactly how Apple would do this without screwing current apps, etc, etc. Does anyone know of an article that explains this if they were to go through with something like this in the future?

I knew there wasn't an iPhone 5, Hopefully this will shut some iPhone 5 believers up.

I don't care about a new design. I love the design of the iPhone 5 anyway. I am more excited about the specs and iOS 5!

Makes Perfect Sense...

The way I see it is Apple has no reason to serve the masses with an ip5 at this moment. I know most people think that Apple is an innovator and cutting edge supplier of technology…all of which is true. However their primary focus is to run a profitable corporation and return value to the shareholders who invest. The simple fact is that this game has come down to Android vs iOS…and there isn’t really anything out there that is driving a need for new phone hardware that couldn’t wait another 9-12 months. Strangely it seems like RIM’s mishandling of getting BB7 to market has provided an additional window to keep the ip4 viable *as is* (w/a spec bump) without risking market share. Most of you aren’t going to leave the Apple eco system…your disappointment notwithstanding. Plus, a 2012 ip5 will come conveniently in time to take the wind out of any new QNX BB’s…

Why is macrumors keep hinting that we won't see the iPhone 5? Don't be a party pooper!

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I love how I read this while I was listening to Don't Leave Me by blink-182, and during the chorus right about the time when Mark sings "She said don't let my door hit your @$$."

Good odds.

agreed cook had no hand in this

why should he take any flak? all this talk for months has been nothing more than over blown rumors and we got caught up in it just like we are now. .
Why would this be Cook's fault? He's only been at the helm for what, a month, out of the 16 or so that have passed since the 4's debut. All final decisions about whatever shows up on Tuesday were Jobs' alone. Make no mistake.

I'm half expecting any minute that legit news sites like The Loop or AllthingsD drop the bombshell that there will only be a 4S.

But my other half says that there will be a 5. Just because there aren't any part leaks doesn't mean it's not existent.

I just don't understand why Apple took so long to release the new iPhone if indeed the only upgrade is to the internals. Was the only reason becuase iOS 5 wasn't ready? I mean seriously, iOS 5 looks great, but I would have much preferred to have had the iPhone 4S running iOS 4.3.x for 4 months waiting on iOS5. As would just about everyone else. I'm not buying the iPhone 4S for iOS5. I'm buying it becuase my 3GS is old and I want an upgrade, and have been eligible since February for one... but held off because I wanted the newest.

Maybe they saw that the iPhone 4 was still selling ridiculously well, so they wanted to milk that for all they could, but that's a real big blow to the real iPhone fans out there if true.

I really hope everyone turns out to be wrong and Apple pulls an iPad2 and shows off the iPhone 5 AND iPhone 4S on Tuesday, but it's hard to be too optimistic on that happening.

This goes into it in detail. I think a 16:10 screen would be a great all around compromise. If they did that though, there would be a few millimeters of black dead space above and below the apps. Before you say Apple would never do that though, just look at iPhone only apps running on the iPad.

Well it takes time to build a plant in Brazil and get new suppliers of NAND flash memory.

Nice. Have you heard the new album? I received it Wednesday from preorder and I'm not sure what to think about it.

Cool coincidence too, I usually take them as a sign that I'm on the right track. Maybe this is another omen for there being no 5 on Tuesday. ;)

EDIT: For those refuting the possibility that Apple couldn't possibly retain the current design for a 4S, what makes you think they can't milk it for half a year to a year like they did with 3G and 3GS? In my opinion, iPhone 4's design is leagues better and took twice as much effort as the 3G's. Why would it be scrapped sooner than it was?

It normally comes out in NZ on the same day as the USA or a month later and it currently is for sale unlocked from the apple store.

Hey Arn, how many leaked iPhone 4 production pictures were leaked before the official announcement last summer?

Sigh...I've tried to hold on to some shred of hope, but I think I've fully given up on the idea of a 5. If we can all be honest with ourselves, do we really expect Apple to redesign the iPhone after 1 year? Do we really expect them to go above and beyond for virtually /no reason/? The iP4 is still the best selling smartphone, Apple clearly doesn't give a **** about the competition, and bottom line is they do whatever the hell they want. The more I think about it, the more a redesigned iP5 begins to seem like an un-Apple type of thing to do. I fully expect them to rest on their laurels another year...just like they did with the 2011 MBP refresh, and just like they do with nearly every other product. 2012 is going to be a good year for the iPhone, though, methinks.

Are you guys seriously proposing that there is going to be a new iPhone 4 and an iPhone 4S? Hahah

Whew

This sure has been a rough rumor cycle. At least when iPad 2 came out it was reasonable to expect a camera, and the hopes of a faster processor were fairly reasonable as well.

This whole thing is a real mind bender. Ha ha. I tend to think the chances are slimming at the redesigned/tapered phone. I'm disappointed only because I'd appreciate the new look (some really hate it, I like it) and because the bigger screen would be nice. I don't shoot enough pics with my iPhone to care about the camera bump just yet (or at least that's not enough to justify the cost).

Tuesday can't come fast enough...
