Cheated by seller - activated blocked by Itunes. what to do?

Are you activating it with a US iTunes account? You can only activate an AT&T iPhone with a US iTunes account, unless you unlock it. It won't activate with a Russian account. That night be what the error you're getting is.

I am not sure u must set up an account to use itunes ... its free application which you download and there you go ....

Long story ... when i switched on this phone (ATT was inside) first it said connect to itunes to activate ... when I plugged it in itunes said YOU HAVE PROBLEM WITH YOUR INTERNET PHONE (not no sim detected or wrong sim), please contact apple support. I didn't know what that means (it was my first purchase on ebay of my first apple product) so i consulted some people.

I found a company here, which sells activation sim cards for activation of foreign iphones (locked) without the original sim. They are for long on the market with a lot of positive feedbacks from customers, everyone gets activated etc. So i thought there it is. I ordered one, inserted in the phone and same message YOU HAVE PROBLEM WITH YOUR INTERNET PHONE. when i contacted the sim seller he said that when such error appears it means that SOMEONE WAS TRYING TO ACTIVATE YOUR PHONE BEFORE, ENTERED WRONG ACTIVATION DETAILS SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW AND ITUNES BLOCKED IT PERMANENTLY. He also said that actual origins of the iphone were hidden from me (it could be stolen, if so i suppose apple just blockeed it)

That's how i knew what's going on. If the seller bought iphone from apple store USA and sent it to me unopened, unused and so on i would have ZERO PROBLEM activating it with activation sim card (it's proven method).

You should have made sure it was in fact unlocked before you bought it.

It seems the seller was as naive as you in this. They sold a USD690+ item to a buyer overseas with no previous eBay history… yikes!

it's not about unlock, its about blocked activation ....
about zero history - we all start somewhere (my side was clear)

he did cheat - someone opened the phone and tried to activate it ... item description says UNOPENED, UNUSED

what steps have you done to activate the phone. walk us through it also tell us what firmware and baseband you have. obviously you did not buy this as a factory unlocked phone. how did the seller get the phone what's the story. if it's registered to them they need to provide there phone number and last 4 of there serial number. you should have bought a software unlock or factory unlocked phone. this is probably going to be a nightmare for you. your planing on unlocking it right?
 
Just jailbreak and unlock it. You'll have an easier time of it that way than what you are trying to do here.
 
This all sounds like a lot of work to save a little money. I bet when it is all said and done it would have been easier just to buy in Russia! hahaha Good luck with the phone though. Hope it works out.

1. received package. looks neat. att inside. swithc on. see emergency screen plus request to connect to itunes and activate.
2. connect to itunes. itunes says: YOU HAVE PROBLEM WITH YOUR INTERNET PHONE

activation sim card (distributed by russian company to activate foreign carrier locked iphones in russia without the original sim. They asked me where the phone was purchased and what carrier i am locked to in order to tailor the sim for my device. You will see hundreds of customers thanking them for helping to activate their iphones which they bought in USA, Canada and Europe and brought to Russia without the original sim - for different reasons)

How do i jailbreak and then unlock if i cant pass the emergency screen?? I can't get to main menu!

jailbreak and unlock are easy if someone didn't brick your phone for the very basic activation before!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since your phone is still with 01.59 baseband. Forget about activation because I don't believe it will work with SIM card in your country unless you have AT&T there. Just jailbreak it with Redsn0w (Jailbreakme can only work if you can get to safari and now you can't) and then unlock it with Ultrasn0w. You should then be able to use any SIM in this phone.
 
we could have done that if we new your firmware and baseband somebody should have asked a long time ago. then again you could have googled that way back when too. ;) good luck I hope all goes well and it was worth it.. oh and don't upgrade your firmware for a while ok!

During this three weeks i think i read overwhelming amount of material and been boggled down by it ... am not hack profi so it was quite difficult to understand whether such software exists for my device, if yes which one and how should i use it ... complex ... never had to deal with before

P.S. still weird .. activation sim card had NO limitations by baseband, modem, firmware or whatsoever! If phone were brand new everything would work just fine!

well if he bought it from the US unopened wouldn't it be locked to ATT and also possibly the seller. seems to me a factory unlocked would have been easier and cheaper.

yes it's att locked ... but am talking about LOCAL activation sim which is designed to handle such cases ... i dont dispute that i cannot activate the phone with att sim card in Russia ... i know it's impossible ... but LOCAL activation sim had to do this (always did for other users) and it didn't ... means things are wrong with the phone ... guys i wish i could give you the link for product description but its only on russian

no unless the phone is unlocked which it's not it must be 1st activated through the ATT sim. in the US all iphones at least GSM are locked to ATT actually you should use a ATT sim 1st then unlock it and put your sim in. here is your way to go.

yes you are right so what the local firm does it make that bit of plastic and info on the chip look like its att sim card and that should be sufficient for activation ... say they just make att duplicate to please the itunes

The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported. Notice that my message states different thing
 
do you have a att sim? you canm get one through ebay it doesn't have to be active that is the easiest way. the seller might not have done anything wrong just a misunderstanding.

yes i have att inside and it does NOT work ... itunes bump it

the key is to understand is it all really that important to have att coverage to activate ... once its clear one or other conclusion will follow ... shouldn't be needed ... asked sim seller ... waiting for reply

So, guys confirmed!
in order to activate iphone you need only two things- itunes and original att sim card! you can activate it even in subway where there is no single network at all!!!!!!!!!!!
An error such as that i received appears ONLY IN CASE I DESCRIBED SEVERAL TIMES ABOVE

SO SELLER IS BASTARD i wont be surprised if he stolen the phone and decided to make money out of dead product!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Pay pal closed my case because there was similar case opened and already closed on ebay :(

can i have the direct link for redsn0w software? Not the description? i tried many links but they are fake - page not found / page doesn't exist where to download redsn0w from for my baseband? Please help

Just follow the poster above's instructions. There is no piracy involved here so you don't need to go searching for the software at sites like that.

jailbreaking is legal, easy, and will save you a lot of trouble.

i know its legal .... i just was trying to find the link for real software not its description ...

am i correct that i have to use redsn0w 0.9.5b5 version for 1.59.00 baseband and OS 4.0 on my Iphone 4?
