Cheated by seller - activated blocked by Itunes. what to do?

Okay, so let's move on. Have you tried using redsn0w on it?

I like this shift - from judgment to action

I figured out i need redsn0w 0.9.5.b5 for my 1.59.00 baseband and OS 4.0.
I downloaded it ... when i run it it asks for .ispw file to browse and am not sure where to get it .... iclarified offer no tutorials for this exact redsn0w version if i searched it right (am quite silly in these things)

Right, let's start at the beginning. How do you know you're on version 4.0?

Cool, that's a good starting point.

The first thing you should do is try to capture your SHSH blobs by using a small tool called TinyUmbrella. Saving your SHSH blobs will allow you to downgrade to earlier firmware versions if you do ever accidentally upgrade to the latest one.

This looks like a decent walk-through for saving SHSH blobs.

Post back when you're done with this.

Thanks fabian!!!!!!!!!! Expect debrief today at night or late evening tomorrow! Will not get home until then :) Thanks once again for wishing to help me. Appreciate!!!

People buy locked phones in USA and CANADA and Europe, get them in Russia, and activate with the same sim i bought ...

nice prejudice

You can call me predjudice all you want, but you were the one that didn't do your due dilligence before buying your phone and came in here stating that the seller screwed you over, when in fact he did no such thing. If you care read my post again, you can see that I said it tends to be a pain in the arse for both parties. A prime example is your present and ongoing iPhone issue...

Alright, this is how I would attempt to proceed:

1. Save SHSH blobs using TinyUmbrella (allows you to downgrade later)
2. Jailbreak using Limera1n (available here (hacktivates and jaibreaks iPhone 4)
3. Install ultrasn0w from cydia (add http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com as source)
4. Insert your russian SIM and enjoy. :)

It's import that at no stage you let iTunes update your firmware. it'll break your ability to easily unlock the phone.

I think this should work...

Really, no judgements? And you're going to jump and call me predjudice? Anywho, re-read my post again... I suggested you use Redsn0w as well or buy a factory unlocked phone. I hope this all works out for you. Going through what you have to go through to get your phone up and running shouldn't be this hard for you and you might end up hitting a few bumps along the way. If might take you some time, but i'm sure someone (looks like Fabian) will be able to guide you on your way... Again, no hard feelings, and good luck!

There is no such thing as "guess[ing] codes for to activate." There just isn't. Your phone is fine, it's just never been activated. To legitimately activate it, you need an AT&T SIM and a U.S. iTunes account. There's just no other way to activate it legitimately. But, as we told you on the second page of this thread, all you need to do is follow the simple instructions at iclarified.com to jailbreak and hacktivate it. All the links to the software and .ipsw files you need are right there in the tutorials. You've had your answer, but you've preferred to argue and accuse rather than just doing what you need to do to fix the problem.

Just jailbreak, hacktivate, and unlock the damned phone. Period.

The thing that bothers me — well as if I care actually, still — is the OP has opened an eBay case against the seller.
The seller, as far as I can see, did nothing wrong and now stands to lose both the money and the iPhone.
That is certainly not fair, especially since it seems as if the OP just didn't know how to jailbreak/hack the iPhone and didn't read the conditions of the original eBay auction.

eBay and PayPal appropriately closed the case.

Let's move on.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I wonder if it was an AT&T iPhone 4 that wasn't activated in the USA. It's still locked to AT&T and would require an unlock to function.

May I also suggest you check out this site:
http://www.hackthatphone.com/iphone_information_1.html

You need to donate $5 and obtain a password for accessing the latest guides and future guides. This site has the most complete guides for everything (TinyUmbrella SHSH backup, jailbreak with limera1n and then unlock with ultrasn0w) - which is what you need to activate, jb and unlock: iPhone 4 owners (activated or not); Must be on 01.59.00 modem firmware to unlock.

After that, there's another guide going from 4.1 wth 01.59.00 modem firmware to 4.2.1 and maintaining the unlockable modem and jailbreaking untethered.

This site is exactly what you need. It's like a one-stop shopping for everything. All guides have step-by-step instructions with screen shot and links to download all files needed.

If you need to find ipsw files, go to here - http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

Just one more Q
i did step 3 successfully, installed 666, rebooted .... but when i switch phone on it still shows slider SLIDE TO UNLOCK and when i entered russian sim it showed no service
are there any extra steps between 3 and 4 that i might be missing?
Thanks!!!!!!!!

Can ...

... you recheck again the system informations on the iPhone itself, which you find opening the "Preferences" app, then proceed the "General"/"Information" menu.

Please, do keep in mind: Saving SHSH blops for the first time, as you did right now, is only giving you the SHSH files from the actual firmware Apple is signing - which is iOS 4.2.1 at the moment. You can´t go back to any previous firmware from that date on. But starting there any new firmware update is signed automatically, if you also did press "Make my life easier" in Cydia. Cydia, in the startup screen, is showing you exactly which SHSH hashes are saved for your device.

Are you really on firmware iOS4 and baseband 01.59.00? I am puzzled because if you don´t have SHSH for iOS 4, you can´t possibly restore this firmware.

If you decide to keep the device: Grab a cheap AT&T prepaid card off eBay to have one handy for activation - that´s all you need, at least over here in Europe, a SIM card from the same provider, not a specific iPhone based contract card. That keeps you from relying solely on hacktivation, which can be quite some hazzle.

p.s. fabian help :)

Just replied to your PM. After you added the ultrasn0w source, did you actually install ultrasn0w? i.e. go into cydia, click on search, type in ultrasn0w, install it, then reboot and put in your russian sim.

let us know how you get on!
