In US, if you want the unlocked phone with T-Mobile sim card, we have to turn off the 3G. Why don't you try to turn off the 3G with your sim card in it and see if it works.

Unlocking with Ultrasn0w for the first time can take quite a while before it picks up carrier perhaps up to 15 minutes. What I also found worked in the past is to reboot the phone without a sim card and then insert the SIM card while phone is switched on. Another thing worth trying is to install "carrier reset fix" from Pushfix.

With regard to your original concern about activation and needing last four digits of social etc. This is a well know problem with users who have sold contract phones on ebay that need last four digits of their social to activate. There are numerous threads about it on here. However, once limerain and greenpoison came out with hactivation it became a non problem.

May I also suggest you check out this site:
http://www.hackthatphone.com/iphone_information_1.html

You need to donate $5 and obtain a password for accessing the latest guides and future guides. This site has the most complete guides for everything (TinyUmbrella SHSH backup, jailbreak with limera1n and then unlock with ultrasn0w) - which is what you need to activate, jb and unlock: iPhone 4 owners (activated or not); Must be on 01.59.00 modem firmware to unlock.

After that, there's another guide going from 4.1 wth 01.59.00 modem firmware to 4.2.1 and maintaining the unlockable modem and jailbreaking untethered.

This site is exactly what you need. It's like a one-stop shopping for everything. All guides have step-by-step instructions with screen shot and links to download all files needed.

If you need to find ipsw files, go to here - http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

we get it you like the site and happy you paid $5. I just hope we don't have to read it everytime you reply.

You have a great point. It's too much work to type a whole reply to bring it up. I can just put it in my signature, like yours. Thanks for idea ;)

By the way, thanks for quoting my message so people can see it in case they missed it the first time.

Glad it's finally working darya! Got there eventually... :)

You can turn FaceTime on in settings, then it'll appear in contact pages and when you're making calls. Skype also supports video calling now, so you're not dependent on the person you're calling having an iPhone 4/iPod touch 4/mac.

Enjoy!!!

A few things to note going forward.

1. Never upgrade your firmware and baseband because you will lose the unlock and the untethered jailbreak.
2. Never use erase all contents and settings because it will erase everything including the IOS and force you to restore and upgrade.
3. Because you hactivated your phone you may experience battery life problems. There is a solution to this call "SAM" you should google it for more information but I would do nothing unless you have severe battery drain issues.

Glad you have a working phone.

Sorry if I missed it but did you close the eBay and Paypal cases?

yes the cases were closed.

3. is a good tip because my battery charge drops by 1% every 10 minutes or so :( .... but isn't sam is activation tool itself? how would i use it if i already activated?

is it safe to add this link http://repo.bingner.com in cydia for my OS version?

Thanks for these really useful tips and warnings! can i make settings so that itunes NEVER EVER updates OS?

I would also urge you to contact eBay as regards the comments you left on his feedback page. I'm sure you can appreciate how damaging they could be.

On another not, check this site a friend sent me!!! Too funny!!!
