I many Asian countries it is expected that you always buy the most expensive stuff that you can afford. So if you do not have an expensive phone, people will think you are poor and have less respect for you. The same is true for clothes, cars, houses and other stuff. That is typical in economies that are quite new to capitalism and have a huge GPD growth.
So essentially it is a remnants of manifestation of some colonial, tribal thing. It seems that some things run very deep and remain persistent throughout the ages.

I think that Warren Buffet still uses a flip phone even though he's the largest Apple shareaholder.

I only got an iPhone because I was fed up of androids flaking around a year into them. The 7+ had already been out for 2.5 years, and when I retire it in February, it'd have served me 5 years, and there's nothing on the phone that doesn't work.

Great phone.

And now I'm all-in with Apple devices.

Using Pixel 3 from 2018, 5 years old device with replacement battery (30 dollars, DIY). Android phone can last as long as IPhone

And I am all out Apple. MacBook Pro is sold, replaced with Microsoft Surface. iPhone 12 is being replaced by Pixel 7 with Pixel 3 as backup phone. iPad is also being replaced with Samsung Tablet. All iCloud contents being transferred to Google.

Glad I don't have spend tons on Apple.

Some Android phone might last as long as IPhone

Fixed that for you....

Well, I won't say all Android phone might last long, but most recent Android phone will last long time. Heck, my dad still using Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 as his back up phone with Chinese SIM on it and his primary phone is also Pixel 3XL.

Well one hope for me from this news is that Chinese manufacturers reportedly take pwm effects on eye and brain health seriously and try to mitigate health effects caused by this method of display dimming.

Maybe Apple will now be forced to take it seriously as well. They’ve not seemed to acknowledge feedback we western customers who have pwm sensitivity have been trying to give them.

If there’s one thing I’ve noticed about Tim Cook’s Apple, it’s that what China wants, China gets. And their customers have been very discerning and demanding. If that trickles down to a benefit to me, great.

I also have a 7+ but I replaced it with the 13 mini as the 7+ is a chungus to run with. The 7+ is still providing service as a weather display on my desk. Other people glance it when they are going out running or walking.

The 7+ is still quite usable. The other reason I replaced it was 5G as 4G can get saturated in my area.

Exactly. It’s no secret that Tim Cook’s Apple has been interested in opening up a huge Chinese market for years. We’ve seen many stories about Chinese resistance to the iPhone both socially and politically. We’ve also seen many stories about Apple’s willingness to bend to China’s will if it means selling more iPhones.

Notice that these gains are being made in android strongholds. Apple is having success in getting more users to switch over from android, and this may be what is contributing to more sales, compared to the US, where the iphone market is probably close to being saturated.

The iPhones in China are considerably cheaper than western markets too it’s worth considering. A few months back retailers there were slashing the prices to boost sales after a significant slump in sales and it seems to have worked. A 14 Pro is £269 cheaper than a UK version for example at 7999¥ (£830). I certainly wish they cost that here as I’d upgrade more often than I do if that were the case. Prices here force longer upgrade cycles which I am sure Apple are more than aware of.

I've still got a Samsung Blackberry copy, which is over 12 years old, it still works after 2 battery replacements, I still use it as an alarm & have done for 11 years, which is not saying much 🤣

The Key Word is "back up" ie; not used very often if at all! the key question is, will it work when actually needed? 🤣
