I think it has a lot to do with developers depreciating standards to implement google friendly code. People don’t see it, but like Microsoft in the 90s Google is breaking we compatibility to force everyone through their technology which they get access to the data.
Yeah - I can see that makes sense.
Since many use Chrome (especially at work) they would make their "business" platforms more Chrome friendly.

Anyway, when I still fall back to Safari every time i do something non work related.

On my machine:
Chrome 146
Edge 129
Firefox 121
Safari 120

Firefox is the best browser available as far as I'm concerned. Chrome is the only alternative that has enough performance to make me consider changing, and the fact that nearly the entire web uses it as the basis to test around makes me consider it.

That said, no browser other than Firefox lets me have the features I want built in
  • Tabs on top
  • Prevent browser window from closing when the last tab is closed
  • Set both home page and new tab URL to about:blank
  • Quick and easy to use bookmarks button with drop down list on the left beside the back button
  • uBlock Origin
Plus a vast library of plugins for all kinds of features. This is the worst quality with safari. Little to no plug-in support and just low quality crapware

I guess if you are happy only having Chrome, that’s true.
Well that’s apple’s fault for leaving windows safari on version 5.1.7 last updated 10 years ago. Imagine all the iOS users using safari on windows to seamlessly sync it.

Instead of being forced to use chrome or Firefox for cross platform syncing and similar experience.

Do Apple employees that matter all use Safari? Somehow I don't think they do. And really, I even don't think they use iPhones.

I don't know why Apple produced Safari for Windows in the first place. If they had carried on, it would be much hobbled by now, for example no way to make Apple Pay purchases by fingerprint.

Why? To provide a superior product and great integration with your iOS devices.

Apple Pay can always be verified by your iPhone as many digital Electronic ID banking verification work in Eu

This has nothing to do with me. We all need Safari for Windows.

Why do you need Safar for Windows? For what Safari was back then, it made very little sense. The GUI was clearly not following Windows deisgn, interface was very ugly, it wasn't any faster than Firefox, Chrome back then.

If any thing, any Apple made Windows applications sucked so bad. You don't have to look far, iTunes for Windows.

They where bad because apple was lazy and used bad code with little commitment. Yet it made great sense for anyone not using a Mac. It could have even been a true competitive browser to chromes market.

I could really use a Music app for Windows as well.

Chrome is a RAM hog. I will stick with safari. I use it on all my devices because, well, I'm in the walled garden and stuck inside the reality distortion field.

Two reasons: 1) at the time, Chrome didn’t exist, and Safari could’ve become a contender against IE and Firefox. 2) for Windows web developers to test their code for iPhones.
And now safari is a mess being light years behind other options because safari on iOS have no competition. And barely anyone uses it on Mac

Because most people just don't care or don't know, except for us here. It's also kind of ingrained in most people out there to download Chrome right after starting their Mac.
Just don’t care is fine. Don’t know is actually what I worry about. When people do things without knowing what they do is when I have an issue. I took packet captures of what Apple, MS and Google each phone home with and I was actually using Edge as a result. As good as chrome but far less data sent back. That said, with their latest move of continuously tracking other browsers on windows I may ditch it for something else. I have had good luck with Safari and it is far and wide the least creepy of the top three.

Apple really needs to restart making Safari for Windows, or even Safari for Android. Safari is only advantageous for people in a complete Apple ecosystem (having iPhone and Mac). Anyone else on mixed ecosystem will be forced to use a different browser (Chrome being the mainstream choice).

For several years I used Chrome (for work) on a Windows 10 Virtual Machine on my Mac. That didn’t force me to use Chrome on the Mac.

I could have installed 1Password on the Windows VM, but it wasn’t worth the trouble. It only took a moment to find a password on the Mac and copy/paste into Chrome (thereafter remembered). Similarly, copying favourite urls wasn’t much of a chore.

At the end of the working day, I was glad to turn the VM off and get back to using Safari, safe in the knowledge that my browsing history wasn’t being beamed back to the Google mothership.

This is exactly right. Exactly.

I use Chrome for work related things - mainly compatibility and actual working extensions for some of the tools.

It does load faster than safari and overall it’s without any doubts the most safe as it comes to compatibility.

Safari is for private pages and although it’s for me loading pages slower, I can’t put my finger on it but I have the feeling that somehow it renders things better. Probably I am deluding myself but there is something in the UI that makes it more pleasant.

YouTube is the slowest for me in general on Safari (streaming and sometimes loading 4k content) but I don’t really mind

Compatibility may not be a big issue soon.
