Chronic Dev-Team Announces Untethered JB for iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak

It's just frustrating to see someone post a video about how it's done. Both camps have been talking, talking, talking about having an untethered JB since Thanksgiving, and neither side has put out anything.
Not trying to bitch or complain, but on the flipside, to toot that you have something for everyone for the sake of making yourself look good, then don't release it saying you're waiting for 4.3, then go back and post a teaser video saying you have it for 4.2.1... it just gets annoying.
It's just a waste of posting space.... when there's news, post it. Not having a release that we can all use does nothing for us. We can only tolerate so many "we have an exploit, we don't want to release it, just kidding, we'll release it... not... I mean yeah we'll release it... maybe"

Lots of people are asking them to just wait until 4.3 before releasing the exploit.

I honestly don't think it matters at this point... Apple finally gets it that they have to release a ".x" or ".x.x" release every month or two now to keep the perception of "updates" faced with the competition of Androids update schedule.
If they do 4.2.1, it's a solid release. If they wait for 4.3, it's a major "milestone" release so there will likely be a bug someone will find and then the Dev Team will need to "just a little longer" for 4.3.1 and so on...
Bottom line it's likely another MONTH before 4.3, and then it's going to be a never-ending game of cat and mouse trying to always have the latest version as they'll undoubtedly start coming out in more rapid succession.
All this of course is IMO.
Their logic of "let's wait for 4.3" is just like when a new macbook pro comes out those people saying "I'm waiting for the next (xxxx) processor".... technology moves too quick for anyone to always be on top of, so sooner or later it's best to just take the plunge and hope for the best longevity. You know with 4.3 coming out there will inevitably be a 4.3.1 shortly after.

I highly doubt that they are messing with you for the sake of a reaction. You really think that if they had one ready they wouldnt release it? They want to get it right before they release

Initially I'd have said no, but watching the aggressive attacks on each other (and even their member-member drama) lately via Twitter, I wouldn't be surprised if neither has a solution, and they're just trying to puff up their chest to keep their name out there.
Either way, they've been giving dates to try and control the situation ... "by christmas" ... "right after christmas" .... "a couple more days" ... "not releasing before 4.3" ... now "have 4.2.1 ready and will be releasing shortly after small bug worked out" ...
It's so wishy washy, it's become so much drama, I'm closer than ever to just saying screw it, and going over to the Android world. So many cool new high-powered phones, and almost every feature I jailbreak for comes enabled off the shelf in Android 2.3...

It's absurd for you to reply like this. The purpose of a "Community Forum" is for free exchange of ideas, information, brags, and nags. For you to criticize someone for bitching and whining makes you a hypocrite, because that's the purpose of this forum (in part), and just adds a non-relevant comment to the thread. It's perfectly fine for someone to whine, or ask the question for the 100th time, provided they understand they might get an equally bitchy or sarcastic response. That's called open dialogue!
Bottom line, if you want factual, up-to date information, there's many twitters and the Dev Team Blog to follow... but do not try to tell people what they can and can't complain about in here until you look through your posts, as you've disagreed what others have said many times in the past, and expressed it accordingly.

Maybe the best hope is Android and others offering more and better features so that good ol' competitive pressure makes Apple and its carriers keep up.

It's not that Apple's getting better, they're just releasing updates quicker. When IOS first came out, there was no competition. Blackberry was out there, but they really just update once per device and that's it.
Apple has had to increase the frequency of their updates to keep up with Androids explosive absorption of market share. Android has done in 2 years what took Apple 4 to do.
Apple IOS is now less popular than Android OS for the first time since it's initial release, and they're trying to do it by little updates like Android does. The problem is that Apple is taking a jail cell and giving the prisoner a sprinkle of salt on their meal with each release. Android gave Lobster with the first release, and now is dishing out sides of steak and shrimp. Apple is continuing the mentality of a closed system (argue it all you want but until their OS supports all the features available on Android that u have to JB on iphone, it's TRUE). Apple's closed-system mentality held them back in the 80s when they had the golden opportunity against MS Windows, and they lost. I only hope they start to realize Android is here to stay and start making progress toward what people want\need from their mobile device.
But yeah. Each release of Android entices me a little more into their camp.... but honestly it's the discontent with what Apple DOESN'T do with each release that pushes me AWAY from iPhone :-(

This is why it's like Christmas the day before an android release, because people know they'll be able to upgrade when it's out and not worry about losing their cool features because they're built into the OS.
Apple users get all paranoid because there will be new toys that they have to chose to either lose all their cool stuff (MyWi, iOS enhancement apps, My3G, etc), or stick with the old IOS till if\when the JB comes out.
Some people are just negative like that 24/7
They're given something for free that others put tons of work and countless of hours of effort and you got a few nitpicking and talking trash instead of beeing pleased and thankfull that they finally will have an untethered solution.

Well worth it for their work that makes it all possible.
Its usually after the fact donation and not mandatory for anyone though.
The least thing we can do is not pressure them, criticise or drive them nuts in general but appreciate and be respectfull since we couldnt do it on our own
If and when it comes out, great! If we have to wait till 4.3, then that's what well have to do. My only complaint is this constant pissing match back and forth between the devs.
I think so many of us are frustrated not that it isn't released, is just the lack of factual updates. A lot of people bought in with the anticipation of am Xmas release. That came and went with little or no explanation. I guess all I can wish for is better updates, not exact release dates.
