Now see. This guy talks some sense about these rumors and REALISTIC possibilities.

Squared nano? LOL LAUGHABLE JOKE. 3G iPod touch? HAHA YOU'RE KILLING ME. iTV? AT AN IPOD EVENT? EH....

Get real people and stop dreaming and thinking you're coming up with great predictions.

The iTV was introduced 4 years ago at the iPod Event (before it was called Apple TV)...it is VERY possible.

As for iPad 4.0, it was announced to developers at WWDC that it would not be available until November.

A touch screen, smaller nano makes complete sense. It gets rid of the shuffle entirely, plus Apple can just decide to sell people who want cameras, video, and other functions via the iPod Touch. Apple has already stated they don't mind cannibalizing iPod Nano sales with the iTouch.

i'm looking forward to this nano, as long as it has nike+ support. i might be worried about the screen while running though, unless it has headphone controls

Nerds? You're on Macrumors.com reading a thread about an upcoming iPod. Wouldn't that make you a nerd/geek? :p

There's nothing wrong with watches, some people wear them because they don't feel like reaching for their phones. I don't want to pull out my iPhone 4 just to check the time. It's easier to look down at my left wrist... :D

I'm not being offensive to anybody, I am just stressing how much I don't like wearing one, haha. I was being stereotypical, but it is (to somewhat of an extent) true, no?

Safari? Haha!

+1! Lol!

Maybe it's already been mentioned, but if it has a display, it won't be called a Shuffle. The Shuffle has no GUI. So, this would appear to be a new Shuffle-sized Nano.

Well yes on one hand but on the other the Shuffle is always the wearable iPod.
So which is the more important design driver?
To me no GUI in the past was a function of other design drivers, if you can tick the main design boxes and have a GUI then it would.

Still I can see a complete change in naming scheme for the iPod family if it's going all touch. The new names what ever they are will still fit to the old design rules. Most likely bring it back to three lines.

Smallest - Wearable (was shuffle)
Medium - easily pocket-able (was nano)
Large - big pocket-able (was classic and touch)

All the iPods introductions have made a big deal about how the Pod fits in your lifestyle and how you carry it.

Nah, not at this iPod event. The invitation has a guitar on it. Has nothing to do with TV unless the Apple TV does something with music and cloud-based iTunes.

Questions

How would safari work on a 3cm screen? It is stupid how they intrduced all new features like radio and camera on the previous nano and now they just give us a watch??? Also will it have iOS4 or what?

Yep, same here. :)

Without a camera, maybe this is going to be closer to a shuffle than a nano.
Will we see a fusion of both models? or the nano will be repurposed or tossed out?

Maybe this is the shuffle I was looking for. ;)

I don't really like it. I prefer to have real buttons when I exercise so I can just hit the next track when I have shuffle on, can't do that with these touch screens through fabric.

But we've had a couple of generations of headphone cable volume and shuffle controls. Much easier while your running (I would think) than doing the same with a click wheel.

Yeah I was talking to Steve Jobs today about those 3cm touch screens... said he was announcing something not too magical but really revolutionary this wednesday. As he walked away this photo fell out of his pocket!

The mockup locks great but...

One edge needs to be extended to fit the front facing camera, for Facetime, or will it be Dick Tracy time? :D

LOL

There are so many people who believe their perception of the world is the "norm".

Watches are not going anywhere.

Brilliant!

I'l go one better with this, how about this mock up with bluetooth headphones, do away with the cabling altogether!

Why not

Why not, here are my (probably undereducated) predictions:

iPod shuffle-discontinued? Or no change?

iPod Classic-same.

iPod Nano-Probably just a storage-size update. I doubt they'd phase out the nano, it's popular and, as many people have pointed out, was (is?) the best-selling model.

NEW iPOD MODEL: Who knows about the name, could be micro, pico... but whatever it is, it'll probably be similar to the shuffle feature-wise-only music, maybe 4:3 video. (In case you haven't guessed, this is the 3x3 touchscreen model.) And it'll be totally awesome because it's a new Apple product.

iPod touch: FaceTime, as well as a camera on the back. 3g touch will be the "starting" model, at a $99 or $149 price point.

As far as the whole "iTV" thing goes, I really don't know (and honestly don't really care).

In my opinion... The Classic will stick around until 160gb of flash is reasonably priced. iPod touch may undergo name change because of new touch enabled iPod, along with other rumored features found in iPhone 4. And a merger between the Nano and Shuffle with the deletion of the video camera.

iPod Lineup:

:apple: iPod Classic - 160gb $249
(slimmer?
:apple: iPod - 32gb $199, $64 $299
(Previously iPod Touch; gains FaceTime, Retina Display, A4)
:apple: iPod Nano - 8gb $99
(3cm x 3cm touch screen with simplified iOS)

This leaves Apple with fewer models, but "something for everyone"; a high capacity click-wheel model, a mainstream do everything model, and a cheap on-the-go model.

But it's all speculative.. Hmmm... Is Wednesday here yet!?

I don't think it's going to resemble a microscopic iPad. That rendering would look a lot better with regular iPod aluminum around it.

I made this mockup, after seeing the case on the home page, i noticed it didn't match the mockup shown, it looks as if it should be shaped like the normal nano 5g just not as tall

yes yes i put the safari logo on it which is pretty pointless and i just copied over the top bar with the Wifi signal on it but still....

The iPod mini was the best selling model when they phased that out...

iWatch... oh please... get a grip...

Har har. I see what you did thar.

And I agree with the posts saying a huge drop from 160gb to 64gb is going to create a huge void amongst the many who bring their library along with them.

But they may push the cloud stuff and such who knows; probably won't happen until wireless technology enables a more efficient way of connecting a cloud.

2 things. First of all, the original Apple TV wasn't groundbreaking, and they knew it. It was merely a "oh yeah, here's something for your TV." Second, yes that was an "iPod Event" but the invite for it was "It's Showtime".... clearly an emphasis on movies. This one is a guitar. Clearly an emphasis on music. The invite always gives a glimpse on the content of the show, at least it has so far.

What was last years? Colors? I know that was for the new nanos, but this time last year could we have guessed that?

Plus there is always the "one more thing....." deal steve loves to do.

I get the point. (Hopefully others will too ;) )

I like this mockup. Looks more realistic. (in fact its the most realistic mockup so far) I'm sure iOS will soon replace the Os thats on the nano and perhaps even the classic someday.

Oh yeah, I forgot about iTunes. I wasn't even considering it due to the relative lack of rumors about it amongst this "tiny touch-screen" excitement. It makes sense that they'd introduce a new version, and it would be the coolest thing ever if they increased the preview time from :30. In my perfect world, preview length would be relative to the song-so if you're sampling a 6 or 7-minute song, you'd get, say, 1:45, but if it's a 2:30 song, you'd only get like :40 (and no, I don't know if that's the same ratio).
