As much as these things were great, all good things come to an end. Did you really expect the glowing Apple logo and a chime to be present in every macbook forever? They were cool things, but really guys, it's not the end of the world.

Not the end of the world, no… But add a few more of these deductions from the Mac experience and before long, you find the Mac is further from what made it a Mac in the first place - and closer to a generic, bland computer with no character.

Well said. The chime was iconic. It needed updating sure (was at least 10 years old in the latest iteration I think) but not cancellation.

I would've liked to see a gentler, clearer and higher quality C chime, maybe with some strings rather than the heavy-hitting low-fi computer version we've been accustomed to, which is admittedly annoying in certain situations.

I often wondered whether it was possible to firmware patch in a new startup chime.
