Clipless Next-Generation iPod Nano With 1.3-Megapixel Rear Camera?

why not both?

Look at the original pic from the link in the article--that hole is going through several layers of metal (including, possibly, the clip). Also notice what appears to be a set of screws to mount the clip to the device.

Still not sure why the aperture has that weird, off-axis hexagonal hole, though. (It's not shaped that way in the original pic.)

apple screwed up when they downsized from the 5th generation. a touch screen that small is a pain to navigate. having the click wheel was perfect. the perfect ipod nano would have been the 5th generation design (maybe a slightly bigger screen if possible), get rid of the stupid camera that NO ONE uses and put up to 32gb into it.

i have a 5th generation now and if somehow it craps out (already dropped a weight at the gym from it), i would search ebay or the apple refurbished for a 5th generation.

its a shame that they went this route and ruined an excellent design, now its just too small.

Please make it BIGGER! I am looking for this device all the time, keep losing it. I clip it in my car (works perfectly) but, getting out of the car does not sporadicly result in the device falling to the ground of losing it in my bag eventually.
 
It feels like change for the sake of change now with the nano. It's a very small portable music player, if you want something more get a touch.

Because of the annual refreshes Apple have made a rod for their own backs, they are expected to add new features every year when really there isn't much that can be added that truly adds value to it.

If they were to add a camera, you wouldn't be able to view you pictures very well as the screen is so small, so you're hardly going to be using it for anything significant. It could be of use for a quick snap but then pretty much all mobile phones now have cameras any way which would surfice for this.
 
someone is Making a huge joke with us here, i just can't understand Why the blogging Sites keep on repeating it as if it was true.

many companies in china take designs of real products and alter them. there are many iPhone lookalikes but when you look close, it is all fake, the os totally different etc. there are even iPod shuffles with built in radios. this iPod nano with camera is such example. never ever would apple remove the clip, it is essential to the size. the camera makes no sense at all. every mobile phone cam is better.

they initially added the cam because they thought they can get into the flip cam market, but this market hardly exist anymore and is also served pretty well by the iPod touch and e iPhone.
 
People who are bashing the 6G surely haven't used any. I had 3G,4G and 5G, now 6G. The menu is brilliantly made for a small device like this, I browse a lot faster than on my 4G. You want camera and all the other fancy stuff, get an iTouch and deal with it.

6G nano is my favourite iPod. ever. Raise to 32GB and I'll be in heaven
 
More features? How about just music players with decent storage space and interface, like iPods used to be?

They had the iPod nano perfected with the 5g version, it was sensibly and practically sized plus the screen was great.

Last years version was atrocious. If the 7g is last years piece of junk with a camera, then it will still be rubbish.

I bought the last gen for the wife and it's a perfect little machine. Why they dicked it up with the current design is beyond me. It's become a joke and an answer to a question nobody asked.
 
David DiFranco (thecreativeone) made a really nice mock-up that he posted on his blog. I would really like to see one like this!

I hope this is true. They really f'd up the design. The previous generation was much better than the new one. Apple certainly learned from their mistake with the shuffle!

I was thinking of something like this while reading the first page of comments...and then BAM...there's a pic of what I had in mind. Make it really thin and perhaps add a floating click wheel with vibrating feedback 'clicks' and you'd have something pretty awesome.

Apple do some pretty cool things... this Nano is definitely not one of them. In my opinion they've really missed a trick.

A camera in this tiny device? AH this really is the future! A camera in your wrist watch ( as a lot of people use)!
I know it's going to be very practical to start but it is nice to see the innovation!

Disagree. My iPod shuffle is perfect for working out, going to the beach and other "I-don't-want-a-heavy-and-expensive-piece-of-metal-and-glass-in-my-pocket"-situations. It's cheap, small, quick and easy to use (in contrast to the nano, my god) and doesn't weight a thing. I love it to death!

If anything, the iPod touch is useless. Why have it if you have the iPhone? If you don't have/want an iPhone, then why are you using a phone that's apparently so crappy it makes you want to listen to music, play games and browse the web on yet another device you have to carry with you? For me that makes no sense.
