Clipless Next-Generation iPod Nano With 1.3-Megapixel Rear Camera?

Why? I love cameras, but a camera on this thing is just retarded. It ruins more functionality than a camera would give. The current design is fine, just ditch the camera and update the display to something "retina display" equivalent.

Why do they feel the need to put a damn camera on every device (assuming this rumor is true of course)?

I like my nano 6G a lot as well. I actually clip it onto my right belt loop on my jeans, then wind the headphones behind my shirt. Sure it appears though I'm looking at my crotch when I want to check the time :) Other than I don't feel it at all, the battery last forever, and now that the top button can be used to pause / play its essentially perfect. It is my default music & podcast device, its perfect at it. Contrast this with connecting headphones to the iPhone and managing the cord as you pull it out & in pocket.

If I may go out on a limb I hope Apple really sees the potential of the Nano. Its gone from electronic accessory to elegant wearable accessory. I'm actually as excited about the potential of the Nano as the iPod Touch / iPhone. If they integrate low power bluetooth into it and dual mode epaper display it really could be its own platform. I doubt the platform shift for the nano will happen this year, next year would be welcome.

To be honest i dont care one bit about the ipod nano, what i want is an ipod touch with gps and a 3g chip like the ipad 3g. Drop the retina if you have to get the cost savings to do it, i dont want a iphone on contract i want a no contract ipod touch 3g
 
I'll stick with the iPhone 4 + iPod Shuffle 2nd Generation combo. The 2nd gen Shuffle is perfect for working out, skating, jogging, etc. There's no need for anything smaller or a touchscreen.
 
I don't know about you but I see some sort of clip mount

Buy an old iphone (3gs, 4), jail break it, and get on a cheap pay as you go data plan on some other US carrier.

And you should care about the nano, its the greatest iPod ever made (hehe imo, and due to my iphone and ipads, I only need 16gb of music. Portable. Music. Everywhere. Is that not what ipods are all about?
 
This thing is begging to be a watch!

Apple needs to make the ipod nano watch a reality and not rely on third parties to provide solutions. Smart straps anyone?

Take a call from your iphone via BT on your nano watch. No camera on the back is necessary, but a facetime one on the front is so obvious.
 
Gonna be a watch capable iPod with a heart rate monitor option on the watch bands.
Regular bands will start at $49 each with 5 colors to choose from.
 
It's where an optional clip connects.

Why in the world would the silver, metal ring be so chunky for a camera? And, the hexagon opening is for a tool - a hex wrench.
Compare to the iPhone camera --

People want the option of a clip, a wrist watch band, a case, etc. So, they made it removable. And, they can sell accessories.

Nano Is Pathetic

The last generation Nano was perfect. All they had to do was up the max size to 32GB. But nope, they eliminated the camera, clickwheel, made the form factor the same as the shuffle, and added a microscopic touchscreen.:(

RIP Nano - I hope somebody at Apple got fired for messing up the Nano.
 
Not a camera

There's no way that's a camera. It looks like a connection point of some kind, if it's even real. A camera port would not look like that.
 
what to do with something so small?

So, now they want to put a camera in the Nano nano, why? It seems that they would want to keep the clip so that addition of a camera is a surprise, but I think they can have both. They would just have to use some of those nifty magnets they are using for the iPad cases. that or some type of swivel, or a dock for hooking in to watch bands?

Yeah, what if that's a screw to either attach a clip, or a wristwatch strap? That doesn't look like a camera, or a camera hole. It looks exactly like an IKEA screw.

But that isn't very elegant and Apple-ish anyway, so I'm not sure what to do with this...
