My wife and I both bought new 5s phones late last year, and honestly at that time I wasn't even aware of the color options. We selected the 5s, and when the sales rep got our phones ready, he told my wife "we have a nice gold phone with white bezel which will look really nice for you", and she was happy. When he got my phone, he just grabbed a space grey with black bezel, and I was happy. Now, if I have my choice in the future, I will choose the black again as I like it better. Just personal preference.

You didn't know about something like color options of the phones you were getting?

Feminized world? Is this some sort of a theoretical philosophy thread?

It's 100 percent reality!

I guess some people just don't care, but I do agree with your surprise. It only takes 1 minute on the Apple site and you can find out that there are three colors available. And if somebody is posting on this site, it must mean they can use the internet! Certainly for an iNVESTMENT such as this it's worth a quick look. Or maybe the bloke is mega loaded and simply has somebody else do everything for him!

Uh, no, I'm not mega-loaded and I don't have someone else do my shopping for me. Didn't mean to invoke such comments. Maybe I didn't research my purchase as much as I should have, but I wasn't complaining at all, just describing my experience and my preference. Sorry, not really.

You have to admit tho, it was a little baffling that someone didn't know about the color options, especially you getting the recent 5s. Sorry not piling on, just adding my 2cents.

However, reading your experience, did you and your wife look at any store models of the iPhone 5s before you bought, or did you just walk in and said "heeeey, we want two iPhones" and then the sales rep said BOOOM, gold for the wife, black for you?

Actually, we have been a customer of a cell phone service provider for over 12 years, and have been happy with their service. At that time, I knew that they offered the 5s in either a 8G or 16G model, and I knew that we wanted the 16G model and made that choice. Our franchise location does not have samples of each color of phone on display, and truthfully color was not of huge significance to me, and yes, basically the sales rep said "BOOOM" gold for the wife and black for you. Now I could have objected and said No, I want white, or she could have said No, I want black, but the point is that it just wasn't that important to us. Again, sorry if that sounds silly to some, but a cellphone provides the same performance and service regardless of color. I'm done trying to explain myself. Thanks.

Never really thought about choice of color related to sex. But.....in my family all grown-ups - 3 white phones all women and 3 black phones all men.

If a bloke has a white iPhone, it doesn't mean it's feminine. It is however favoured more by women than men. Insecure people will care, the rest will just use their phone.

When I got my 6+ Space Grey was the only option available in store so that's what I got. Same for the 5 before it. I did preorder the white 4 but on release day it was announced to be delayed a month (eventually 10 months) so I got the black one 2 months after release. My fiancé has a gold 5s; he's obviously gay but I'm not at all. I would never get a gold anything. I have the green silicon case on my 6+. My Watch is SS white sports band. My car is a white '13 VW Diesel Beetle. My Mac is the Mac Pro, sadly not the red one

I had a black/space gray 4 and 5 and intended to do the same for the 6 Plus, but it wasn't available in my preferred configuration for on-time delivery, so I went with a white/silver 6 Plus. I didn't care at all about gender-specific stereotypes or concerns. I only worried that the white bezel might be visually distracting. I now find the black bezel to be way too dark and I can't imaging ever buying another iPhone with a black bezel.

I am a male, I always had black iPhones, then i decided to get a white one for my 5S and i absolutely loved it. I found the white 6 even more beautiful, and yet reluctantly decided to revert to black when i got the 6 for one simple reason : i find white to be too distracting. Black just vanishes , giving priority to the page.
I could tolerate that somewhat on an iPhone, but i could never get a white iPad for example .

Where does boredom come into all of this?
Who on earth could have the same colour phone year in and year out? I mean, how dull! iPhones barely change from one year to the next and as we all set up our homescreen icons the same way we had our last iPhone, it all feels sooo samey. So why not change up the colours once in a while? I had a black 3GS and a black iPhone 4, but since then I've had a white iPhone 5 and a white/silver 6+. Who knows what I'll get next time, but black phones do look a bit boring to me these days.

Male... and have always had black phones until the iPhone 5s when I decided to change up to white. Then I also got an LG3 in white last year. Liked white so much I decided the iPhone 6 should also be white.

I guess white appears more clean and polished....and I enjoy not seeing so many fingerprints as I did with all the prior black phones.

I don't care what others think. I get the color I want, not what others think, PERIOD... I like gold, and white iPhones.

In American culture, the color black is more masculine, dominant and more powerful.

Ah, what memories. And what deep and dark histories, we have to call upon.

And once upon a distant historical era, the cultural baggage (and legal reality) that the word 'black' carried - especially when applied to people - was most emphatically not 'dominant', and 'more powerful'.

Quite the opposite, in fact. Indeed, much legal finessing, moral mendacity, downright dodgy theology, rotten economics, were all called upon to support this insupportable stance……

And so, it took something on the lines of a Civil War, and, around a century later, demands for Civil Rights, to bestow a whole new meaning ("dominant", ''more powerful") on the simple adjective 'black'……...

A most fascinating and - at times - a hysterically funny thread, by the way.

Agreed. The color of your phone is not determined by your sex.

Exactly. Of course it isn't.

Exactly. Of course it isn't.

One must wear black clothes, drive a black car, have black bedlinen, black carpets, black painted walls (white would obviously be homosexual), and of course have a black iPhone.
Bonus masculinity points for being black yourself.

I really disagree with the statement. Who says man can only wear simple clothes while woman can only wear skirts? At least now, if you like, you can wear skirts (when you are a man).

Coming back to the topic. Whether white or black iPhone does not make sense. And this is a complete subjective preference. In fact, man can also act like a girl while girl can also act like a boy.

I choose a white iPhone 6 Plus just because I like the white color more and, this can reflect apple's white logo.

Black iPhone 4, slate iPhone 5, white/gold iPhone 5s, white/silver iPhone 6.
Black iPad 1, white iPad 2, black/space grey iPad Air.

My next phone is likely a space grey 6s or 7, my next iPad is a white/gold mini 4 or Air 3.

I like switching things up.
