History scholars are really important. Not only do they have significant control over the commerce of thought for generations, but when you (not you, grapes, but the general "you"), someday, are forced to face the question "What does it mean to be?" -- well, the history major is going to have a real leg up on those who haven't studied humans in the diversity of their contexts.

I was a philosophy major. Now I'm an English teacher. And though philosophy single handedly KILLED my GPA, I don't regret studying the "impractical" in the least. I can't imagine my life without philosophy.

Why do we not do more to celebrate the useless?:)
I've taken my share of Philosophy courses as well. I think they are very fun and interesting, but not worth majoring in. Maybe I should have worded my question differently. I meant what did Oryan want to do with a Medieval European History Major. I figured Oryan had to have a plan on what to do after college or he/she wouldn't have been majoring in it. Obviously I was right since he/she didn't have a clue on what to do with it and he/she changed their major.

To all you USA science majors out there, be sure to learn four essential languages of the EU. Getting a PhD in biology or chemistry and working 60 hour weeks for 20,000 a year in the USA really sucks. :p

I know dishwashers who make 25,000 a year.

I haven't declared yet, but I have to by the end of this year, and I'm going to major in History, concentrating on Europe. I then plan on getting a Masters of Architecture (hopefully at UCLA, that'd be sweet).

Nursing.

and i'm a guy.

I completely agree about the being in demand thing.
Nurses in general OY! NEEDED!

And I'll give you a word of warning-- if you're ever my nurse, don't start talking about you 30 cats.. I had a bad experience with a male nurse and his cats and not giving me my morphine for a long time.

punk.

i've never really had to go into a hospital for anything, just normal routine check ups. most guys often go into nursing because of what they see goes on in hospitals, clinics, ect. that really "changed" their life.

my case, i wanted to help people. mechanical engineering, teaching, firefighter, police officer, ect. it all boiled down to nursing. plus i love working in fast paced environments (i love being in close junctures with people like a crowd, riot, city, whatever).

i've done my NA clinicals helping out in the retirement homes, i had a lot of fun. i mostly listen/socialize rather than lecture or talk about my cats (two).

i'm 21 now, kinda wished i had found out earlier, but my 4 years of taking gen ed classes helped a little. oh well, i like school, shooting for nurse practitioner in the end.

I'm halfway or so to my BA in history and international studies.

Most likely I'll pursue JD thereafter.

Whould that relate in anyway to that pic you posed in the drunk thread?

Anyway, doctors need someone to tell them what to do, keep up the good work.
