Dont white box it, you wont be able to do a retail return after that. I just went from an iPhone X to an 8+ and am absolutely loving it. The new black model looks sleek and feels nice. If you can wait a bit til the X gets the kinks ironed out, I'd recommend that one.

Well my iPhone X has yellowish/warmer tint with TT and Night Shift OFF. So is that normal or do I have a bad screen? I’m not worried about hue shift that happens when I tilt the phone. But when I look straight at it, it’s much more yellowish than my iPhone 7 Plus that I had.

Yea if I can’t adjust, I’m doing an 8 plus for the next year.
I won’t do the whole exchange thing with Apple, I hate being that person, the one who looks nuts and wants to exchange my phone for one that’s flawless, because these days perfect and flawless is a complete lottery.
With True Tone set to off. I am scrolling through the thread and I’m noticing with my normal viewing angle of the phone to my face: the top of the phone I’ll notice a yellow tinting to the content. Scrolling that same content down I’ll notice it becomes less yellow and more white/blue whatever you want to call it. Is this normal? Should I return back to Apple store? I browsed through this thread and saw people talking about yellow tint. But what about this? Is this part of what you all are describing?

Yes, definitely part of it. Really disappointed in the X's screen. Better luck next year I guess. Hope Apple switches back to LCD and drops the obsession with no bezels. I'll take a small bezel like the Essential phone all day and have LCD.
I've had Galaxy's previously with the pink tint. My iPhone X actually has no pink/purple tint too it, it just appears in the picture. Like I've said, it appears far more yellow/warmer in real life.
Again, I wonder if this has any impact on the yellow/warmness we're seeing. It makes no sense to phyiscally see a warmer screen temperature, and then take a picture and see the opposite. Hm.
It’s a bad Screen. Not all of them are yellow in the store. Some of them are perfect like an OLED Screen should be. Me and my wife both got bad screens.
Even when i turn True Tone on and shine an LED/UV light into my phone my screen brightness goes up but ITS STILL YELLOW. It’s NOT working properly the phone should be one white.
Even when I’m using my phone straight on I see a color gradient across my screen from top to bottom it goes white to blue.

I took my screen protector off and it’s still the same yellow tint.
I turn “reduce white point” on the lowest setting and my phone looks exactly the same as it does off. It’s almost like the hardware/lights for the reduce white point are stuck ON.
It's sad (but also reassuring) to know that other customers are having the issue with the yellow and dim tint on their brand new iphone X's, because I literally felt like a crazy person trying to explain it to the apple employees in the store who kept denying any difference.

Some cheapo one from one of those simple mobile stores in the mall. It was tempered glass though.
I went in store today to see the iPhone X for the 1st time in person and the ones I seen did have a slightly yellow tinge, not much. Only a little more than the 8+ I have. Just looked like a D65 calibration.
Thought it was a nice phone but I wouldn't get one myself. When compared to the 8+ the size of the screen is a bit of a drop. The size of online images etc on the X when comparing the two was quite a bit smaller. That said, if you have a 6,7 or even an 8, the iPhone X would be a great upgrade.
One thing I didn't like at all was the way to bring up the control panel (which I use a lot). Seemed a bit of an after thought tucked away in the top right corner.
But, I thought the screen looked great. Looking forward to an X plus.... with a better Control Panel 🙂

I personally will not be exchanging (most likely) because I believe this is my design. I'm not a display expert but I do believe our "warm" displays are near 6500°K (D65) and we're just used to cooler screens. (Displaymate also tested the white point being around ~6500.) That said, people generally prefer cooler screens so I can see the cause for concern.

I want to try a replacement first I have an appointment Thursday at the apple store.
I went in on Monday to compare compare it with floor models and some looked like mine while others were like night and day. Crisp white whites and beautiful bright screens.
The store employees basically told me I was wrong and that it looked normal to them yet they insisted on “using their triage model” which probably has the same damn yellow hue issue on it. I’m gonna try multiple stores until someone with half a brain gets the issue.
I agree with the D65. Since using True Tone etc on the 8+, I found using the MacBook Pro was hard work on the eyes at night. Thankfully, just updated it to High Sierra and it has Night Shift on. Eyes feel better for it!

I will let you know. Mine has a small finger print smudge in ten corner that I’m taking to Apple to have em put a new one on. No harm in taking a look at the screen naked.
My response would be that if this is 6500k, I dont want 6500k. I know some dude somewhere picked that number as perfect but the X didnt look even close to the real world I see, through the blue tinted atmosphere we have here on earth.
I dont think this is a 6500k issue, as there are display models of the X without this yellow staining, but thought I'd add that since someone always tries to claim accurate colors when this happens. My response: 1) its not the intentional calibration as there are other phones without this issue and 2) If it was calibration, I'd simply avoid anything with this "correct" calibration, which looks terrible.
Control panel will forever stay in the right corner on the X because of the swipe up to do things so don’t expect that to change. Also I came from 3 years of a plus model it only takes about a day or 2 to get used to size of the phone. Then once you go back to pick up a plus model you realize just how way to big it actually is and that the iPhone X is the perfect size.

as much as it takes getting used to top right as opposed to bottom stretching your hand at times, I agree. it will stay there to justify the bunny ear functionality
Fair point. Yellow staining is an entirely new story. I had previously owned Samsung phones so I know exactly what you are referring to. My iPhone X doesn't have those characteristics, and it pretty warmly uniform. If I had two different color tints/color staining, I'd be returning, just like I did with my Galaxies.

I just tried that, white point all the way down to 0 and display is much better at minimum brightness. I’ll see how this goes

Definitvely reassuring, but still really annoying ! Especially compared to all other OLED/AMOLED screens out there, TV and other smartphones
I was not expecting such a difference when shooting iPhone's / Ipad with my camera (D7100 with a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G) but screens appear really different behind the lens.
With my naked eye, here is the order of devices with the warmest to the coolest screen :
iPhoneX > Surface Pro 4 > iPad Mini > iPhone 6 Plus.
The screen I apreciate the most, still through my naked eye: iPhone 6 Plus
All devices are set to the max luminosity with the same settings (TT Off if exists, NS off)
Camera do the white balance itself (but exact same results when I set WB to 5000K)
For me the Surface Pro 4 screen is perfect with true whites, iPhone X is second with a sensitive warmer/pinky white but still white, iPad and iPhone 6 Plus are the same with a greenish white.
I was not expecting such a difference...
Result when I dimmed the brightness:
With NS on:
When I tilt the phone
If perfect white iPhone X can be found, I assume warm screen is a defect !

I’ve owned plenty of Samsung phones and really don’t remember a time when tilting the phone down and up in front of you would change the screen from that pale yellowish color to cool blues.
