Apple by me in Williamsburg finally got my color case in (midnight blue) and I just grabbed it.
Of course I checked out the X floor models and compared against mine.
Some (most) are just like mine and even warmer. I took the True Tone off the ones I was looking at and it’s crazy how gross it looks with that feature on. Either way there were a few that were spot on, like super white, no real change in color when you shift it back and fourth while holding it. Although I gotta say my phone was brighter than almost all of them, Yes I turned off auto brightness for the ones I was looking at.
This is classic Apple guys, I’m a some what nit picker like most of us here. But to be honest and not sound like a robot. It’s our own fault. We should be used to Apple by now. The screens weren’t calibrated on a large scale correctly if you ask me, the phones were rushed and as usual we are test piggies for the big Apple while they will keep eyes and ears on all being said and correct as much as they could for next year.
There will be people who get a perfect phone, like my dad, who just truly are plain lucky and like us, are playing the iPhone X lottery when it comes to getting one that’s spot on.
I’m keeping mine for now, and when a space gray one comes in I’m going to exchange. I’ll check back in and let everyone know how that screen was out of the box once I get it

The brightness difference you saw could be explained by heat. Those display units get hammered on at max brightness all day every day.
When I got my iPhone X and was syncing/using it, its max brightness was much lower than my wife’s due to the heat and Apple’s lowering brightness targets during extended intensive operations.

Yea the brightness to me wasn’t important to be honest and these units are only a few days old realistically. However the color is just puzzling how some are spot on, some are yellow, some are slight yellow, and some are like mine with that color shifting issue. I wouldn’t except this on any phone let alone a somewhat $1,300 brand new flagship phone that’s being touted as the phone with the best screen on the market. To me for that money Apple should have gotten it right.
That's a good point! I compared mine to the floor models at the Apple store and BestBuy: I witnessed the same thing, so that would explain it.

Honestly if Apple was smart - they would make sure they the best of the best. I’m sure they are checked out prior to shipping.
Apple store exchanged out two units for me, but it didn't help...both the replacements had the same yellow screen, you may have better luck as it seems to be complete random chance.
Like you, it was literally the first thing I noticed when I turned on the phone during initial setup. I keep thinking my eyes will adjust over time and get over it, but its not happening.
FYI I've got an appointment with genius bar at the local store next week
if there is no solution there, the iphone X goes back to apple ( still only a few days to do so)

Picked one up. I reserved in store pickup last night. Screen is better, so I am going to stick with this one. Not sure if it is the best screen ever, but not nearly as distracting vs. the super yellow screen.
The one iPhone X I saw at the Apple store looked great. As others have stated it’s hard to tell under that lighting. It may be due to how they all sort of color shift and it’s hard to pinpoint.
I will try and post some pics later. I’m guessing you can tell a little difference, but daily driving it is maddening using the more yellow screen for some reason.
Oh and I get now the warmer tone the new phones have. I don’t mind it once most the yellow is gone 😛

It’s an absolute good up, and with this release...there’s no phones to go around with even doing an exchange.
Hopefully I nail down a Space Gray Phone by next week and just give back this silver one.

At this point I don't believe these variations in the X screen will change, it seems this is the nature of the screens being produced. Especially bc Samsung is making them, Apple is not gonna change the parameters and calibrations it has already set for the panels in the middle of the cycle.

I have this same pink hot edge running down the right side of the phone. Luckily I don’t have the yellow tint issue. Kind of noticeable when reading text from left to right.
Question for you all: Is the hot pink edge issue common in OLED screens? It kind of bothers me but there’s no way in hell im starting the panel lottery for it to end up with a yellow panel. If it’s a common thing I think I can convince my brain to accept it 🙂

All I did was toggle on colour filters and it instantly made a positive difference. I left auto brightness on and True Tone on.
Does anyone know if messing with the color filters/hue has any long term detriment on the phone or if it decreases the overall brightness of the phone that you would be getting from a "normal" panel?
Obviously, we shouldn't have to be doing this anyways - but what choice is there....

Now, you guys are doing color fixes. What has the world come to when Apple's own color management doesn't satisfy you. I thought you guys enjoyed yellow screens, blue shifts, and gray banding as long as Apple supported it on the so-called worlds best 5.8 inch OLED screen. 🙄
nicely? it looks like **** now. There is literally a blue tint smeared over the screen and the brightness is lowered by applying a tint. The default 'yellow' looks so much nicer. It's calibrated and photos are accurate.
Compared my phone from targets display...WOW theirs is pure white and mine is piss yellow with the same settings applied, their phone was a Verizon a1865 model and I got the att..I’m just going to return mine to Apple and maybe roll the dice and buy a new one again.

Yeh... imagine how much color tweaking would be needed if the X didn't have the best most color accurate display ever!
Seriously, this must be pretty frustrating after spending that much money. I think some of you are trying too hard. I would just return it and get another or something different, or wait a while and try again. Is being seen with the notch that important to go through all of this?
