Hi all, I thought this would be useful for anyone suffering issues with their iPhone X screen -specifically those feeling their display is too warm / yellow / pinkish.
I booked an appointment with the Apple Genius Bar today (I’m based in the UK), as my screen was on the very warm side but also suffered from notable pink banding around the edges of the display, and appeared to have a largish pink patch in the upper right hand corner of the device which could be very distracting when using apps with a white background. It was much more noticeable with True Tone on, as well as Nightshift on in the evening (at its warmest setting).
The Genius was very helpful and got a display model to compare the two side-by side, with the same display settings. Even I was surprised by the marked difference. The display model was bright, crisp and and had a blueish tone to it, whilst mine was very dull and yellow / pinkish. He was so surprised by the difference he called a number of colleagues over to take a look also and of course they all checked the ‘display accomadations’ setting to ensure nothing was on that shouldn’t be (i.e. a colour filter etc). We checked every possible variable.
They replaced the phone with a brand new version which we set up and checked before I left. I also compared this phone side-by-side with a display model, with the same display settings turned on both. These were now both identical.
I am much happier with the replacement. However I do feel there is an issue with the OLED screen on these X’s and True Tone, as well as Nightshift on its warmest setting. All the iPhones I checked in the store appeared to suffer with some issues with uniformity with these two setting enabled and I think Apple has some work to do on the software side to adjust this. True Tone especially seems to be ‘exaggerated’ on the iPhone in some way, especially when you compare it to an iPad with True Tone turned also on. For now I am keeping True Tone enabled, but at night I am having Nightshift on its mid-way setting, as this seems to play much nicer with the screen and its looks more uniform. Alternatively turning Nightshift all the way up top its warmest setting and having True Tone off also seems to work quite well. The two combined appeared to create some issues.
I hope this helps anyone who is suffering from the same problems. It would be worth checking your device side by side with some display models.
