I'd really love to see what you've done in any way shape or form that has affected the millions of users who unlocked their iphones. Not only is he a genius of his time, but he has changed the way people use their phones and on what carriers. He was the first to unlock the iphone, first to come out with a PC jailbreak that was easy! "click here" or you can go through the original dev team jailbreak and go through 3 processes...

he may be a douchehole to you, but has done more for the iphone community then you can ever imagine as well as expanded our vision of what we can do with "just a phone"

Clearly a congregant at the Church Of Geohot.

No necessarily but look at the facts…

Dev team: an entire team of people trying to hack into the phone all working together helping eachother out

GEOHOT: one kid doing what all of them combined try to do (oh yea and has time for school and cracked the PS3)

Every genius is a bit arrogant and cocky and probably an ******* like everyone on this forum anyways, but you got to give him credit where needed, especially when people on here pop off with nothing to back up anything.

You have anything to back the statement that he cracked the ps3? Because he didn't.

Fact is you don't know how the dev team operates. And you don't know their schedule. You have to admit, the dev team is more laid back whereas geohot does it more for the media and his ego. I'll give him credit though although he did get kick of the dev team for a reason...

how about you go invent a longer lasting light bulb or something, maybe you will warrent a comment like "douchehole" too.

yawn.

I hope the jailbreak/unlock is out before the 20th. Going to Germany, and it'd be nice to be able to use my phone with local carriers.

Your kidding right???? Your not serious are you? Uhhhh lol look up his blog and litterally everything with the ps3 hack is brought back to him, granted he is conferring with others but he is the first to get access to the hardware's code and edit it. As well he has posted the ps3 codes online...

I'm not sure this thread could get any further off the topic. :D

Either way I wish the JB would come out so I can stop checking MR every 20 mins to see if it's out yet. I did the same when waiting on my new phone to arrive.

I'll see if I can change the subject a little bit....Will you JB as soon as you see it's released? Or will you wait to hear the horror "brickd" stories first? I assume it will be available for mac users first right? (Stoopid PC )

I will JB as soon as it's available, after backing up of course. :D I have an iMac and a PC so I don't care which version is available first. :p

There is video he posted of it

You're both wrong. He cracked the PS3 hypervisor. In terms of security, he did the equivalent of breaking into the front door of a bank only to be staring at the Fort Knox of bank vaults and unable to do a damn thing. He compromised the hypervisor, but the root key is still in place. The whole cell was designed that if the Hypervisor was compromised, that the secure code could still be preserved.

He didn't "crack" the PS3. Which is why in the 6+ months ago that this happened, nothing of value has been gained.

First off you can't get to the bank vault without first getting past the security in the front door, the iPhone unlock was his and blackra1n

Enough said he's proven that he is a valued forefront person in the jb and hacking community

Well, to be fair, as I understand it, all he really intended to do was use the CPU cores as decryption engines. Cracking the hypervisor was all he needed to do that. His main goal for a while now has been to create a reasonably-priced teraflop computer he can use to crack RSA encryption.

More evidence he is a douche and validating the Dev Teams decision to dump him. He has the prerequisites for being arrested within 5 years for hacking. Enough skill to be convinced of his own infallibility, the narcissism to believe laws don't apply to him and the arrogance to believe he won't get caught.

When I first used blackra1n to jailbreak my iPod, that's who I thought the boot image was - Frodo. It was weeks later that I discovered that it was Geohot himself.

ROFL< I couldn't stop laughing when I read this too funny!!!:D

I'm a superficial tech geek , my friends/family think jailbraking is too much work and that I'm the one doing all the work and trying to explain to them how it all works proves difficult...As far as I know I plug my phone in click the mouse a few time then my phone is much more bada$$ when it turns back on.

In laymen terms what does it take to get to the point that I just run a program to make it happen? I'd like to give better credit to the "dev" team where it's due.

It is not illegal to break RSA encryption as an academic exercise. There are specific exceptions in the DMCA for academic research which cover this activity. People who expose weaknesses in encryption algorithms serve a valuable purpose in the security community and are not at all "douches."
