The X is lacking in landscape mode... lots of wasted space. I think it looks great in portrait, and thankfully that's mostly what I use :)

I'm not a huge fan of the long and skinny display... wish they'd widen it up a bit.

The notch doesn't look as bad in portrait. I agree, it's in landscape that you notice how bad it looks.

This is enlightening. I actually find the 7 Plus just a tad too wide by the 7 way to narrow. I thought the x would solve my dilemma and end up in the middle of the two. It appears way to close to a 7 width for comfort.

I want the new hotness but I don’t think I could live with it.

I'm upgrading from the 6s Plus to the 8 Plus.

I'm just not all that impressed with the X... and the notch is ugly. As someone else said... feels like a beta release.

Oh dear

Thus notch is not going down well. Surely Apple will have to release a software update?
When Apple releases an iOS update they can remove the notch very easy. A black screen on an OLED is a real black. So if Apple tints the left and right side black the notch dissapers.

So an option in the settings „tint statusbar black“ could be a possible.

The iPhone X offers the exact same width as the 4.7” model. You won’t be gaining anything.

As someone going from a 7 to an X, that extra screen space is just what I wanted!

I am a woman with average female sized hands, plus hand mobility and strength issues due to MS, and the Plus is just too damn large for me. That's why I'm absolutely thrilled that the X comes with the great camera and screen size of the Plus without the total size and weight.

The more I see pics of X the more that notch bothers me.

I actually found the opposite, as I looked through the pictures I noticed it less.

I have a feeling when people get the phone in hand they'll quickly forget about it, but we'll see.

For me I mostly use my phone in portrait mode so I have a feeling the loss of width isn't going to bother me that much... It might actually be a small improvement as I have small hands.

So if these are right and to scale as such the 7+/8+ vs X actually only physically display the same size pages etc? So we are not actually gaining from a 5.8" screen?

What are the actual measurements of the screens on the 8, 8+ and X? in millimetres?

Sad thing is that there's NO way Steve Job would've allowed for such a design flaw. Apple used to make the most beautiful phones with iPhone 4 but now they're all over the place. I'm glad I went for the 8 plus. I just prefer clean aesthetics and I like how it's natively 1080p for videos. I can always upgrade next year if they do it right or at least add a black strip

The X looks like an anorexic teen with a unibow and the plus looks like a fat lady with a double chin. Oh well. It's what's inside that matters.

The X actually looks pretty terrible when compared directly to the plus. I think this is for 2 reasons:

1) The aspect ratio. I've never been a fan of the longer aspect ratio, it doesn't distribute space evenly enough either widthwise (when in portrait) or heightwise (when in landscape). Either way you slice it, you always feel like the screen is a little cramped.

2) The new home bar takes up space on the UI and makes that space even smaller. On the Plus all of the screen is usable UI.

Agree with OP in saying that they will optimize it a lot better with iOS 12/next year. Likely for the X+ model.

Following other sentiment, this year is the beta product, lmao.

Has anyone suggested a #NotchGate yet?

This is what Chris Pirillo guy was talking about. He was complaining because there were no "true designers" to make iphone a better user experience. But to be honest, there are people who could bypass that notch regardless. It's personal taste.

What happens when you take a screenshot on the phone? You get an image with the notch?

I think they fill it in with a matching color, like they didn't even commit the notch sin to begin with. Oh apple
[doublepost=1505511447][/doublepost]I for one will fully embrace the notch. Exactly one year from now, when I confirm jailbreak tweaks are released that black out the status bar area. Also, waiting on that Pro Motion, otherwise it's not worth the $999

I only use my 6 Plus in landscape for watching videos, using the camera, and the occasional game, because I think it looks ridiculous on many apps (Safari especially). Even without the notch, you'd want the bigger left and right margins in landscape on the X to keep it from looking ridiculously wide. As far as portrait goes, it seems to compare pretty well with the Plus? Not really sure what the big deal is.
