Comparison screenshots (i8+ vs. iX / i8 vs. iX)

This confirms my thoughts. In reality, the X is a beta release. Has lots to sort out before it's ready for prime time. The 8 Plus is the safe choice for now for most consumers.
Shouldn't be beta release. Apple should be known for refinement. Bad decisions lead to changes and no choice to release as is or miss 10 anniversary edition

I don't really care about the notch either way. The aspect ratio bothers me more.
-From those examples less is shown on screen
-No more full screen TV shows
-Height is a bigger limiting factor in my pocket than width.

They need to go back on this

I don't care if it's an Apple first, or how bad changing it close to release would make them look. It just has to be done. It's a mistake and everyone can see it.

this is beyond anything, this isn't some headphone jack whining, this is real.
this notch is a complete disaster.

Something has to be done. Cook should get the designers and programmers together, work overtime, mitigate it via software asap and change the images of the official site. Any bad press and loss of confidence from doing so can't be any worse than keeping the notch as it is.

Appreciate those comparisons.

Since I do most of my iPhoning in Portrait mode, I like what I see here. The extra height comes in handy with the X.

Compared to the + in Landscape mode, I don't see the notch being too much of an issue. Safari has white bars down the sides, whereas the + has its black bezels, but you still have decent width to work with. For Apps that are useable in full screen without the notch being an issue, the X will shine.

I think the comparison to the 8 is more relevant as its physical size is closer to that of the X.

With regard to the above screen usage comparisons, my preference remains the same with the 2017 iPhones;
X
8
+

I find it amusing that people who berated the plus’s bezels are the same people praising the notch and squished up/chopped off content of the X.

I'm curious how many people actually have a reason for hating bezels, as opposed to having been progressively mind-programmed to hate them... follow-the-herd.

Bezels are practical. Means you can hold your device comfortably without obscuring the screen. I remember when Apple focussed on UX as opposed to trying to match the competition in specs etc.

Thanks for the screenshots. I'm planning to get the X and these made me feel better: I actually like the notch in portrait mode. I can see how it could annoy in landscape mode but I very rarely use my 7+ in landscape anyway.

To me, it feels like the "everything must be thinner" craze we had some years ago. Things got compromised because of that as well (Phones bending, screen distortion when holding iPads in specific spots, 480p webcam on Macbook etc.). It's interesting to note that some of these products have become thicker in their latest iterations, but nobody really talks about that except when they try to reuse a case or something and suddenly it doesn't fit because the latest version of the product is now 0.X mm thicker.

Clearly more-progressively-larger camera bumps are OK tho....

Yep. I agonized for a few days over which I should get--the X or 8+.

Glad I went with my gut and grabbed the Plus. The notch pissed me off way back when images leaked, but I thought I could get over it. These pics confirm there's zero chance of me doing that.

Thanks for your post. This helps a lot. I’m a 4.7” user now and I’ve been debating which mode to upgrade to, the content comparisons help.

I hope they get rid of that home bar in a future update. I can swipe up from the bottom on iPhone now for control centre and it doesn’t need a bar to tell me. Let us turn it off with a setting so we can see more screen

I’m not comparing to a plus because those are too big for my preference. I probably won’t get any more visible width on a webpage as the sizes are the same in points, but it is physically bigger so text will be a bit easier to read and video playback will be bigger in 16:9

I'll gladly trade the notch for the real estate gained on the top and bottom of the screen in the current design.

Looking at those picture comparisons reminds that:

99% of the time, Movies/Pictures/Websites/Books/Game Console/Computer Monitor/Tablet/TV = 90 degree corners on a rectangle

iPhone X = Curved corners and part of the screen missing

I am 100% sure a real Dark Mode and some other fixes are coming in whatever iOS 11.x.x version will be there on release day of X. The whole point of OLED is much black to save energy.

But the question is, will it be on other iPhones too that support 11...

I really don't mind the notch, just not enough "wow" to it to make me go for the X. TBH, the loss of the home button bothers me more than the notch.

Looks like an upgrade from the 4.7 inch iPhones for people who don't want the size of 5.5 inch iPhones
