How do you know this is a bug? The way iOS works, this is how the engineers designed it. The apps will reload when they need more ram. Just let ios do the work y’all. If you wanted such powerful platform for multitasking you need to look elsewhere. I’m not saying ioS can’t multitask you guys are asking too much.

And these metrics were measured when? where is the data chart plotted to show this is happening? Just let iOS do its job. NOthing is wrong with reloading.
Do you even know what the actually problem is??? Lol

The problem is that the moment you leave an app (ex. Safari) it will automatically close, when you go back to the app, it has relaunched. The same applies for every app I’ve used such as Amazon, Procreate, Mail, etc, I lose whatever I was working on or doing at the time immediately after leaving the app.

For YouTube, I would have a video playing in the background and if I were to pause the video via Control Center, YouTube will immediately close and the playback controls will disappear. I lost what I searched, the video I was watching, and when I was watching.

It wasn’t like this before. It has to be a bug. An app shouldn’t immediately close right leaving it or multitasking.

Also, leaving the platform and to look elsewhere is the dumbest solution I’ve ever heard.

Ok guys, I just used my iPad Pro 11 and switched from iMessage conversation back to safari and yes the page did reload but it’s instant. What is the major deal? I do not see this as being something so overblown on the interwebs.

Just save your work frequently. Problems solved.

I teach English and use Google Classroom and Docs to grade. Last week, with 13.1.3, I could switch between the four browser tabs this requires (our school’s learning management system is the fourth) with no reloading. Now, there’s a delay when switching between say, the rubric and the document I’m grading, and the tab to select the next assignment. On dozens of essays, this “instant” reload on 13.2 shows itself as anything but.

In fact, just now closed the iPad to talk to someone, came back opened it, and THIS VERY PAGE reloaded. I’m not trying to make any sweeping arguments about Apple or other companies by comparison. I just really hope this is a bug that gets attention ASAP.

ram management on my iPhone 6s running 13.2 is better than ever. Love the performance. This must the specific to newer chipsets.

Whelp. Glad I read this before updating. I'll hold off for a fix on this, since it sounds a lot like a regression.

Lucky. I wish I had known before I updated. I’d have stayed back on the previous version.

Now, as an overall critique of Apple atm, I will say that it didn’t use to be like this. I‘ve always recommended updating immediately and have never had issues. In 20 years of Apple products this has been the case for me.

I just tested with side by side (two apps on screen) safari and imessage and writing/surfing between the two does not reload any pages. Perhaps this is really a “bug”. But then again, i still say its just a superior way to manage memory. I commend apple for being so smart to manage memory this way. Apple is the best!

Asking too much? You’re serious? I use Safari heavily and tab reloads were not present with 13.1.3. As a heavy user of Safari, I would have noticed this behavior immediately. This bug was introduced a couple of beta versions before release.

If you’re working a form in Safari, with just two tabs open and navigate away from a Safari for a minute you will lose that information. I recorded a video with just two Safari tabs open that I sent to Apple and nothing else in the app switcher. Safari reloads like clockwork. This shouldn’t happen and didn’t happen with 13.1.3.

Oddly enough I’ve noticed this on my 11 Pro with the Clock app. Each night I might open the app and set my alarm, then exit the app and when I reopen it to check my alarm is set it will fully relaunch...

Exactly the behavior I‘ve experienced between 13.1.3 and 13.2. Like you, I hope they address it quickly.

Not seeing this in any real significant way on my iPhone 11 Pro Max or my iPad Pro 11 (Face ID model). Both running 13.2.

Well. Not every safari tab, etc. I am seeing more reloads of apps than before though, but I can definitely remember some sessions where I was like "wow, that reloaded?"

I’m so glad I’m not on my own with this. Saying that it’s not with the arrival of 13.2 that this has started this for me. It’s been going on for weeks.

Fingers crossed it gets fixed soon.

TOTALLY!!! +1 here

This is a bug, not because of RAM limitation people.

Background activity was working perfectly before 13.2

Oh and I have every app turned OFF for background app refresh both before and after updating to 13.2.

Background app refresh is something different and unrelated to this bug.

That’s a google problem right there.
YouTube worked fine before this release. It's a bug. It also happens in the Photos app for me, I'll be looking at a photo, switch to another app, and then switch back to Photos and it has completely refreshed the app. So no, it's not just third-party apps. This isn't working as intended if it worked fine beforehand.

Edit: My trolling/sarcasm detector is broken. Disregard.

This crap would never happen under Jobs, he would play with Apple products and find faults very quickly.
TC is all about the money, the only innovation under is watch has been the AirPods. Where is the 16" MacBook with inverted T arrow keys? Where is a desktop Mac halfway between the Mac mini and the Pro? Where is the iPhone with USB-C and Apple Pencil support? Why is Apple wasting time on services and not it's core user base, creatives? Sort it out TC or put a visionary engineer in charge.

So iOS is running into the same legacy issues as Windows? LOL! It only took Apple 12 years to realize how hard it is to maintain multiple platforms with different hardware specifications as Microsoft has had since the very beginning...

Meanwhile I'm sitting here with my S10+ with Twitch on the top third of my screen, Reddit on the bottom two thirds, and Google Maps in the corner.

Rare use case so not really.

But I'll switch back to iPhone as soon as I can keep a mini video player on my screen while going to other apps. It's absolutely crazy you can't keep Facetime, Netflix, Twitch, Youtube, etc running in the corner of your screen while you make use of other apps.

Edit: Especially considering how much more capable Apple's CPUs are.

Apple is superior in multtasking - why are you guys slandering apple? I mean I have ZERO issues whatsoever and I don’t get the apple hate!

You guys need to rethink how you use apps on a phone device. There is absolutely zero reason to worry because apple engineers do this for a reason - that is to save battery life. I personally welcome this “change” if it is indeed a new feature. I love apple products they are just fantastic!

Nobody is slandering Apple. We are just discussing a change in app behavior that affects the way we work with our devices. If all you do is browse the internet and play games, you may not be affected. But in case you didn't know, for some of us, our devices are not toys to pass time, but a tool for work and everything else we do.

Actually I've had this happen to my iPod Touch 6G (which can only be updated to 12.4.1; haven't applied the 12.4.2 update yet). I only use it to watch YouTube. While watching a video, I'll put the iPod Touch to sleep, and when I press to wake, it brings up the home screen. YouTube has to relaunch, and I have to sort through its version of the iOS mess to find the video I was watching just 30 minutes before.

So, yes, there is a definite problem all-around. It's not just iOS 13, it's Apple. (Why are not we surprised?)

What's sad is that it takes this stuff going viral in order for apple to do anything about it. All those folks who's homepods were bricked? It's not until major outlets starting reporting it that apple finally pulled the update. What is going on with Q&A at Apple in 2019?

IMHO, Apple won't do any course correction until it hurts the bottom line. This would require AppleTV+ to be a disaster and significant drop in iPhone orders. Bottom Line....Apple needs another rough period that they experienced in the 1990s.

To add on....Apple would have failed without Steve Jobs coming back in the late 1990s. And maybe Apple should have failed. If Apple can only survive with a Jobs like character, then it's not a company that can survive leadership transition.

Oh, they will survive this time around. But the magic is gone. What made Apple special is slowly being whittled away. It won't be long before there isn't any of that special magic left. At that point they will just be another big tech company and nothing special. I noticed the beginning of the decline in that special feel the moment the iPhone 6 came out. I used to get excited for Apple product announcements, but now I just worry they will take away or break yet another feature that made me like Apple each time they have an announcement.
