A friend who is the biggest large screen Android fan/user I know recently changed jobs and was given an iPhone 4S as a work phone. After three weeks, she is reaching for the iPhone first and seldom uses the Android phone except to take personal pictures not allowed on the work phone…
Anecdotal evidence is always nice, but it is just that - anecdotal, and therefore highly subjective. Not to say I don't use and prefer iOS, which I do.
…[which] is why the iPhone will continue to be the top selling phone and the sixth generation phone will be the biggest seller yet.
In all likelihood, yes. :D

Because the remote will totally have a Dock Connector and a camera, right?

If someone reads my other comment about how they are no longer innovating with the iPhone and won't for a while, let me revise that and say that I was talking only about the hardware. They're only taking evolutionary steps now.

By doing so Apple are likely to be relegated second or third place in the smart phone market.

They have a design team who has turned out some fantastic new designs, but to keep the form factor as it is now is a mistake.

Everyone else does it though, or worse, they change it just for the sake of change and make goofy designs. OR they copy the iPhone design, and that is their "innovation".

…the Mac App Store is infinitely more expansive than the Android Market.
Hmm. Do you just mean "App Store"? Because comparing the Mac App Store (for desktop computers) to the Android Market (for mobile phones) is like comparing apples to robots.

:D  ;)

Change for the sake of change is bad. Change to stay ahead of everyone else is needed for Apple's sake, and if the new phone looks like the leaks, then this is not change, but tarting up a tired old design.

Just because you didn't experience Antennagate, has no bearing on those of us that did. Upon taking delivery of my IPhone 4, I swapped my iPhone 3GS to my wife's line. That very evening we were out for dinner. I attempted to make a call from the restaurant, only to find my phone would not connect with the network. So my wife handed me the 3GS, it connected & made a crystal clear call as easy as always. That's but one example.

So as usual, those who assume are usually always wrong. Why you would assume you know what my experience was, is baffling.

Thanks for the clarification and apologies if my post came across the way you read it. It read to me as being overtly negative about the iPhone 4 when millions of others bought it and have been happy with it. That said, everyone's experience is different.

Diversion Tactic

Apple know everyone will be looking for the new iPhone, not rocket science....
This is a distraction from the new half-breed tablet they will release along with it...
Not to mention softening us up for the new smaller dock.
;)
:apple:

So many people are complaining that the new iPhone is "just taller" and I admit I couldn't really see the point either, but it makes sense when you think about the iOS UI. In just about every non-fullscreen app there's some combination of toolbars and navigation bars at the top and bottom of the screen. A taller screen allows more content to be shown in these interfaces while maintaining pixel density and requiring minimal changes from developers. I for one welcome this decision.

Man thats ugly, if thats the 5 than its the s3 for me

What do you buy a smartphone for, just for it's outer case styling?

So many people have said they would switch to a Samsung S3. To me this type of statement is all BS. Yes, the design of the phone may influence your decision but it's the internals and the OS+Apps that make a smartphone in my opinion.

I have used many Android devices before, and yes the Samsung S3 looks great on the outside, but what about the software and it's OS?

My main reason for leaving all my Android devices behind was the slow rate that Apps would become compatible with my device. Same for firmware updates too. Some Android companies are slow when it comes to upgrading to the latest OS Build. This is also the reason I stopped using my Android based tablet and bought an iPad.

Fragmentation is still visible in the Android world in both Apps and Firmware so if you think the iPhone 5 is going to be so bad then enjoy your Android experience. I guarantee half of you will be back in under a year.

In the end the users will weigh up the good with the bad and make their final decision.

Right. I can't understand all this insanity over "they must change the design!!" I don't understand. Why does there need to be a radical redesign on a phone that's a HUGE seller and is gorgeous? Just improve what needs to be improved...redesigning it doesn't make it good! I just don't get it. I want a GREAT phone, not one that's OK and is an "all new design" !!!?? Worry about the important things...performance, screen resolution, size, battery life, other important hardware....the design of 4/4s is beautiful.

Then why are all these rumors so consistent? If this ends up being the next iphone, which it will, many including myself will be very disappointed. Why do they feel they don't have to change anything drastically? And yes it needs it.

It is possible that they haven't begun building the real thing yet. That would be the only way to contain the true iPhone. If Tim was serious about increasing security, that's how he'd have to do it: push off production till the last second.

It's fantastic. The S3 is a terrific phone, Android has really grown up.

Lol. That's a horrible idea.. They are pushing for the most iPhones in apple history. Why would you delay production and risk something going wrong? It's just that millions of iPhones are being produced. It's impossible to watch every one from leaking..

You assume you know when they will begin shipping the thing. Perhaps I didn't explain enough, my apologies. It is possible they will begin ramping up production after the announcement, and ship in a month or something. I'm no conspiracy theorist or anything, and I believe this will be the next iPhone, but like I said, the only way to keep an iPhone secret is to push off production till the announcement.

I'm really not interested. iPhone users have been fed the same product with tweaks here and there for years now, and if you ask me the iPhone is no where near deserving of being called an "elite phone" anymore. The iPhone (and its operating system iOS) line has gone stale and I for one wont upgrade my iPhone 4. What exactly are Apple doing to innovate or push through new technology in the iPhone? A 0.5" screen increase, probably a slightly faster processor, little more RAM maybe, and a very boring upgraded iOS 6 that I would consider iOS 5.5. The iPhone no longer offers unique selling points, Android phone are more than capable nowadays and surpass the iPhone in many ways.

They will still ship millions though.

Haha, so what you mean is a new Android phones are bigger innovation than iPhone just because they are different? I don't see short battery life in most Android phones could be considered as an innovation at least.

Nothing beats an integrated system, that's all. There are PC laptops that have greater hardware than MacBook as well, but what makes MacBook so great is their integrated design. Just seeing Alienware I don't find them any better than a high-end MacBook Pro.

Unless you need LTE, you should really consider buying an iPhone 4. The small increase in screen size for the new phone isn't worth the hundreds extra you'll pay for it. The iPhone 4 has the same chip as the first gen iPad with more RAM, so it will be well supported for at least another year. You'll also get the same high dpi Retina display.

If you wanted to, you could spend more for a 4s and you'd get an A5 dual core chip....probably guarantees you two more years of support.

This is what's so disappointing for many of us. As much as I wanted to, Apple gave me ZERO reason to upgrade last year, and this year it looks to be LTE (not sure about coverage for me, or extra data cost). The new iPhone itself is not as attractive as the 4 or 4S and the additional half inch screen length just doesn't seem worth it.

Quoted for truth and that is the problem, 4 and 4S users will have little reason to upgrade apart from the 'must have the new phone' factor.

But having said that, iPhones hold their value so well that upgrading my 4S to the new one might only cost about £150. If that's the case then I'll probably do it anyway!

I've been a long time advocate of apple products and technology...

I'm simply amazed by the number of people who blindly want to just buy this because it's new. Apple could put an apple logo on a turd and people would buy it.

Actually, you're just another offensive troll pretending to be a reasonable person.

Yep because the giant, plastic S3 is beautiful right?

Have to agree.

I upgraded from the 4 - 4S on launch day and just had the "need the newest phone" factor.

Something stupid i though after, as i was not blown away jumping from the 4 - 4S.

While the upcoming model will have spec bumps i don't think many 4S owners will feel the need to upgrade this time, especially if there tied in to long contracts and would be purchasing the new model outright.

IO6 on the IP4/S will keep them happy enough i think with the current phone.

Yes i'm sure plenty will be sold but probably to new punters and 3G upgraders.

Enjoy whichever you have anyhow :)
